I'd like to point out that there are a lot of good employers of maids and nannies in the UAE. My film aims to raise awareness not offend.
Please don't leave xenophobic or racist comments, that's not what I'm about. I have Emirati, Arab and Muslim friends who live in the UAE and agree with the points made in this film.

@102013893867082229307 its also the responsibility of the exporting countries of these domestic workers, the government system it self its so fucked up, not to mention most of the exporting countries are corrupt nations, most of these workers came from small rural villages where the world seemed so basic and innocent

There are few cases here also about that up mentioned topic , but still if you will compere with rest of Arab world you will come to know that these UAE Nationals are way better then rest. Specially the Government , Laws and Regulations are very good in that country.

We are all guilty because we stand in slience. I have studied Islam for many years. I think what you don't understand is that these people can't tell what century they are in. They interpret the verses of the Quran as they see fit to justify there lifestyle and corupt ways. They believe Allah is merciful only the Muslims and there's no justice for anyone els.

I lived in the UAE for 12 years. I’m a European female, white, blonde. First of all, I was too scared to write this comment from my actual account so I had to create this one. The uae has no freedom of speech and you can be heavily punished for saying something negative about the country. I witnessed first hand how maids are treated. They are told to use their own dishes and utensils, they sleep in a small room on a mattress, they stay at home and are paid nothing. I had a friend who had a maid, and I never understood why they get treated like that. I lived there for 12 years and for reasons I’m too scared to mention, I have ptsd. I’m a very sensitive person and I have so much empathy for these people. They work 24/7 with no off days and are forced to wear certain clothes from a shop meant for maid clothes. Most of the time they don’t even get to keep the money they make and only take it when they leave back to their country. They’re underfed and treated worst then animals. Even if they’re being abused there is no way in hell they can go to the police because they don’t want to be sent back home. They need the money to feed their families back at home. In the uae, if you’re Indian, Pakistani or any Asian country, you’re automatically seen as less then human. Let’s not forget that all those great buildings were built by Indian workers. The lazy ass Emiratis don’t do shit. I was 15 when I got harassed sexually in the elevator by an obviously older man from the uae. About 40-50 years old. I was scared to tell the police, I told my dad and he told me to keep quiet or we could get deported and he could lose his job. I’m telling you honestly, I hate that country with every piece of me.

This is UAE, worse in other Arab countries. I experienced abuse in Qatar, 6 years ago, my employer grabbed my hair and slammed my head to the kitchen wall just becoz he thought I scream to his children, where his children are ones screaming at me. Then in Kuwait, 2 years ago, my employer sent me home 1 month after my contract expired, didn't give 2 months salary and withhold my cellphone. So I say myself no more work Arab country. I'm here in Hong Kong now, much happy.

Not all are. Please don’t say that. My mum is half Arabic and we had a housemaid for a year. We treated her well. She was like a sister to me and we loved her dearly. Please don’t judge all Arab women by these monsters who calm themselves “human Arabs” who call themselves “human”.
My mother isn’t like that. It hurts me seeing people say that all Arabs are like this. Because not all are. Please don’t take this as an insult because I’m not trying to offend you. If I do I am sorry but it really really hurts seeing people saying such things about my mum when she would never do such a thing. We had to live in Dubai for a year because of my dads job before moving back to Australia. Also, we are not from the UAE. My mother’s father came to Australia from Palestine because of his fathers job. But don’t say that we bomb people. We don’t. We love all including Israelis. We have friends from Israel and we don’t judge anyone. We know that everyone is human and everyone should be treated equally... except maybe the monsters who treat their maids like dirt.
That’s what my mother herself as an Arab said. 💖 I love all.

As soon as Ahmed Al Shamsi started talking I KNEW he'd deflect the blame on these women who are essentially being treated like slaves and concubines. And what makes it worse is him acknowledging the issue, then sweeping it under the rug for the sake of maintaining face with the UN. Claiming it's being worked on and actually doing it are two different things. I've always wanted to go there, but between how horribly the construction workers are being treated to build Dubai into what it is and these foreign maids being treated like dirt from the children all the way up to the parents, I simply cannot.

Cases of abuse are not restricted to a country, it is within human nature. I am not defending it but there is not a single country that does not carry it's stories of abuse, so please refrain from slamming Dubai or the UAE with the abusers label. It is true that there were plenty of abuse cases in the past decade but what you do not know is that it is typically caused by the supervisors of certain projects, not the UAE government. And once light has been shed on the abuse cases, many laws which are IN EFFECT have been issued for the safety & well being of builders and domestic workers. If you condone a recent non-biased search/research and stop watching these orientalist and favoritism based videos you might understand what I mean. This is coming from a first-hand witness who lives in the UAE.

Tears rolling down upon watching your video, coz I know the feeling. I know how does it feel being controlled, starved, insulted, and unable to have day-off. It is very hard to live in a place where no one can understand you as a person, and the hardest thing is, there's no escape provided the fact that, even personal documents (passport and national i.d) are confiscated by them. May these form of maltreatment, inequality and inhumanity may cease, hopefully.

As someone who is a quarter Arab (not from the uae) I would like to let you know not all Arabs are like that. These employers are monsters but not all are. My dad actually got promoted and we moved to Dubai for a year. My mum also decided to get a job just because she wanted to have a reason to employ a nanny and treat her well. (My mother is half Arabic) we got a nanny and we loved her. She was like an older sister to me. I will never forget the day we moved back home to Australia and she went back to the Philippines. She had to leave at 4 in the morning and I couldn’t sleep the whole night because I was so upset. I cried for the whole night and when the time came for her to leave my mum and I broke down in tears. I couldn’t imagine a life without her after living with her for a year. Watching her leave through the door not knowing when I would see her again made me terrified. My mother also had a job to help support our family since everything in Dubai is very expensive. We got into many fights with each other but only as sisters. We would have those fights that only sisters would. Nothing worse. I love her like a sister or even like a second mum. We have her good salary, we fed her well. We told her our house was hers. We would give her 2 hours to help my mum clean the house (she didn’t do it on her own) and while my mum was at work for 4 hours she would look after my younger siblings and then we wold give her the rest of the day off. Most people would say that you have to call us madam and sir but we let her call us by her first names. She called me and my siblings by our nicknames but still showed respect to my parents. She still called them madam and sir. We would watch tv shows with her. We didn’t give her a day of the week off. There wasn’t a certain day. If there was a day she wanted to go out we would let her. She would always take me out with her. We would let her go into the kitchen whenever she wanted to get something to eat or drink. We would let her take naps if she felt sick. We would take her to the doctors if it seemed serious. Her mum died while she was staying. We let her go to her funeral and we continued to help her and let her mourn and grieve the death of her (her mother had converted to Islam about 4 years before dying.) we wouldn’t dare hurt her. She, my mum and I liked Turkish shows. But they couldn’t be translated to English and only some would have subtitles. Even if me and my mum loved the pens without subtitles we wouldn’t watch them. We would only watch the ones which she would understand so we could enjoy them as a family after my siblings had fallen asleep. Then she would go downstairs to her bedroom and we would go to ours and the next day she’ll help us again. Im not sure if she’d like me putting her really name here so I’m gonna use her nickname. Thank you so much Jozie. I hope to see you again soon! 💖
    -Mimi.

When I lived in the UAE, many maids would only work for Western families. Arabs and even Russians NO. We had a nanny and a maid. Both were paid 2000 AED per month, could eat anything in the fridge, one trip home per year and worked only 8 to 9 hrs 6 days. Plus each had their own proper bedroom with ensuite. They did everything with a smile, we were very grateful and they were happy and loyal. After 5 years we left the UAE but made sure they went to good western families. We helped them find employers.

Many of my friend's maids and I've heard from my friends at school they say they're just like family. I'm a citizen and my family doesn't have maids for over 10 years so when I was 8 or 9 we didn't have any maids even though we are 8 people in one house.

I’m from Dubai , everything you see in this video is completely true and there are some cases where it is worse. Thankfully all the maids I know are treated like my sisters, and my mother works in a place where she helps the maids being abused. Not all Arabs are like this though , but I will say it is pretty common for maids to be abused. But I would like to add one point and that is the whole passport fiasco , our maids used to have passports until a maid , who we trusted and treated like a friend , stole a lot of our belongings including expensive watches and designer stuff and fled the country. So that is why we keep them , but if they just asked to leave we would let them go. Also , it’s not always the maids who are being abused , in some cases the maids are abusers. When I was in the 5th grade I accidentally pushed my maid as I was running away from my brother and we were playing tag , the maid then proceeded to hit me, I told my mom and my mom just waited for her contract to end and then made her go back to her country. My mom told me to be on my best behavior because the maid could poison me or something so I had to be nice. Also when I was little another maid poisoned my 2 month old brother by being reckless and my mother got mad and then the maid pulled out a knife from the drawer and started threatening my mom, the maid god sent back to her country the same day. Also when my brothers were little (4 or 5 years old) our maid would take them to her room and beat them with a belt and told them that if they told my mom that she would beat them more , but we only found this out after the maid was fired and my brothers understood she couldn’t hurt them anymore. These are just some of the cases I personally faced with maids. But it’s very inhumane to trap them and mistreat them and I try my best to help maids from other families that are being mistreated.

There is no other country in the middle east where foreign workers are treated with love, respect and gives decent salary than Israel. Almost if not all Arabs/Muslims hate Israelis but they turn out to be more civilized and humane to their workers. Huh $200? That is only two weekends pay for me if I don't use my day off. There are few employers who try to abuse their workers by taking them to other family members' house to clean or wash the dishes during sabbath but that is against the law. Any domestic workers or caregivers can refuse, call their agencies and leave work. Physical and sexual is a big NO NO!!! I love it here so much. BRAVO ISRAEL! LONG LIVE!!!

I went to Dubai for vacation and stay there for quite long time. And yes I saw many things such on beach whole Arab family was eating and enjoying, two maids were standing. Family were not given any food to them. Arab family children were pushing them throwing sand on them. Felt very bad for them.

thank god my mother loves our maid and she treat her as sister. to be honest. “not trying to be racist” most of the abusive lady’s in uae are yemeni woman who’s NOT from uae i’ve seen a lot
i remember i saw a maid in our school with her face half burned, i asked her what happened “if she won’t mind me asking” she told me her yemeni boss spilled boiled water on her face i even told her to call the police at her but she said she wasn’t allowed to have a phone i really feel sorry for her.

No! Don't take any notice of these other comments. Every culture has its bad things. Its true that the things in the Middle East are indeed bad, especially for women, but you didn't cause it. You're in a position to change it, even if it's just by being mindful of what's happening and not supporting it. Don't be ashamed of being who you are.

It’s putting yourself in a dangerous situation when you work within a rich household. Some rich people have no respect for their house maids regardless of how hard they work they don’t view them as human beings. The solution is for the governments of the countries to assist individuals in finding work in their own country so they don’t have to leave. Too many horror stories and deaths but the employers will not change so the maids need to not go there.

You did a good deed. Many people are scared to speak against Arabs in Dubai. I saw animals being tied in sweating heat on the dessert, birds blind folded for a picture. If this is the case, what would they do with dairy animals? They keep tigers and lions as domestic animals in their homes. Just because they have the ability. I am sorry to know that humans are equally mistreated

I have been in UAE getting to 2yrs and I know what am talking about. The issue is, some employers(boss) think they have the opportunity to do anything they like so far as they have given you Visa. They always want you to do what they say even if it's against your RIGHTS. Their expectations are soo demanding and they don't give mutual respect to their workers. They think they have MONEY so they can do whatever they wish. God will punish them SEVERELY.

I worked in Abu dhabi for one year as a engineer and i witnessed that treatment with employees is not at all good they treat every expat as their slave,(except for vanilla skin) even i underwent mistreatment but had to complete atleast one year of contract, this was the reason i left uae even if i had a good job with fair salary...and i dont regret my decision of resigning, there might be a few good people but most of them are mean and unprofessional. I wld never goto such country again if iam treated in such a way neither should anyone. May god help all the maids who are undergoing this everyday.

And yet you felt the need to reply because? Firstly, the topic at hand was maids being abused not maids being treated kindly. So, of course I commented on what I observed on this topic. Do you think I’m so stupid that I don’t know that there are good people who are kind to their maids? 🤔 as for “biting the hand that fed me” your mentality is exactly part of the problem. Just because someone offers a service and receives pay does not make that person deserving of being treated unfairly. I met and was blessed to create long term friendships with some amazing Emiratis, but I also witnessed first hand improper treatment of maids as well. There will always be good and bad in every situation; however, the bad was what was the topic unfortunately. Be blessed. ❤️
