Sixty years ago my Gramma made me a deal ... she would make flares and bell bottoms out of my outdated trousers if I did house work while she sewed. I was stylin'... and her house was sparklin' clean. Forgot about that until I met you. Thank You !! ❤
65 years old. Did this in my teenage years. For bell bottoms just rip the seams to the knees. Of course we didn’t use denim for the inserts we used contrasting colors or patterned material for the triangles.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺I am 66 years old. I’ve been sewing since 5th grade. No one has ever taught me to use the seam ripper like you just did! That little trick is going to save me SOOO much time! Thank you SO much! 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Of course I like how you style them. This did not look too difficult and the end result was really nice. For those of use that hard to find jeans that actually fit around the wa.ist and no hips, this is a really cool way of making them into exactly the type of denim we want. That sewing table is just awesome and I can see how it works well as a desk also because of the outlet are on the table. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come
Great idea to use the fabric from a wraparound skirt! Love the table too. And while I knew about using a seam ripper properly, it was great to see you demo it - so many people learned something new.
I just decided that I wanna create a comfortable wardrobe and so, last night, I went through all the stuff that I own and put away the clothes that didn't fit nicely anymore. I'm a jeans person and there were all these jeans that would have been nice to wear if only they were a little loose. Great video girl, makes me look forward to creating little projects out of those jeans and having fun again
You deserve this lovely table! The assurance in the way you handle your garments helps to encourage people. You are a born teacher, as well as a garment artist. Thank you for your work!
Love those jeans. I totally want to make these, but first I need to set up my new space. No more projects until I get that done. What size table did you buy? I want it for my new workspace! I do think it will make a great cutting table if it will be stable enough on plush carpeting. What do think? Will it work as well on plush carpet? Any concerns?
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a pair of overalls that I really wanted to be wide leg, and buying new ones felt unnecessary. The tutorial was so easy and a lovely quick project!
You are soooo stinking cute! And smart too! I love how the jeans came out! My hubby just gave me all his old jeans and guess what I’m gonna do today? lol thanks for a great in depth video!
Thank god skinny jeans are no longer on trend. I looked dreadful in them as did 99 percent of the rest of the population. I only have one pair of wide leg jeans but thats a start. Wide leg pants are always more flattering.
Hey hun i love your videos..just a quick thing The seam ripper ball is meant to be used on the outside. Stops any accidents with the longer part ripping thru fabric
Wow that table and the power strip is amazing, love it!! The jeans are brilliant I am so happy you have shown how to turn my skinnys into straight leg jeans!! Go you Angelina ❤️
Great video… Love your idea! The jeans look terrific. Sewing & designing over 50 yrs. Glad that you are showing how important it is to put time & money into your work space. The power strips are so important. My husband helped me there. I also have a large sewing ctr ( L-shaped) that he bought me 35+ yrs ago. I’m able to keep 3 machines up at all times. I can remember bk then thinking $800. was a lot of money but it was a great investment. I recently checked with the company. They still have it except for it about $1,400. Yikes, right!! But setting up your sewing area/ craft area, whichever, is really important. With my cabinets & ctr I can stay organized. Your supplies & tools, wether you sew for fun or professional need to be convenient. Think about it… if you can’t find it… you won’t use it! ❤ I use a folding table when I need extra space because of the size of my rm. But it sounds like the company recommended has a lot to offer. ❤
@@katietomasello490 : Consider myself as a hobby sewer and like yourself have been doing it for 50 + years and use a similar set up as you do. i.e.: L-Shaped with two sewing machines plus one serger all within arms reach with a scoot of my chair together with notions required such as pre-wound bobbins, assorted scissors etc.
Girl first let me say thanks for intro to the worlds greatest back saver for people like me who has a bad back, that table is awesome 👏🏾, and the jeans turned out great 👍🏾. Thank You so much for sharing your brilliant ideas with us ❤️🥰!!!
Hahaha I wish I had had this guide in like 1998 when I was in elementary school and got 80’s handmedowns that were straight leg and I WANTED bell bottoms hahaha I would just cut the seams at the bottom so at least they flared out a bit. Fashion cycles are hilarious.
Thank you for much for this tutorial. I’ve been dealing with chronic pain and fibromyalgia for several years now and I cannot wear anything too restrictive because it causes me pain. Now I can loosen the legs of my skinny jeans and wear them again. 🙏🏼🦋
This is great! I've always had a thing for wide legs and some bell bottoms. Another week to go and I will officially be able to start doing some of your diys.❤❤❤
I remember girls doing this in the late 1960s and early 1970s to get 'bell bottoms. They would have a triangle shape of contrasting material to make the flare from the knee down.
I find myself looking forward to your posts and appreciate the creativity, it’s so inspiring. 🙏🏾✨ Love the workspace and the fit of your jeans! So cute!! The styling was great as well. My favorite was with the blazer, and the sweater style was classic!! You are Amazing at this!!!💜 love it!!
Hah my home economist teacher taught us "all the world loves a happy ripper" !😁 Im 72 y o I didn't know that about the ball on the seam ripper , not all have the ball i guess i need to buy a new one 😊 thank you for videos I love to check out how other people do things I've taught myself lol it saves me so much time and so much seam ripping 😅
I love this project - takes me a little more time, since I hand-sew all my alterations. I have old jeans in other colors, so I could really make them funky!
Same, the only sewing machine I have is from the 80’s, I think something is wrong with it because the stitches never look right. Every project is a lot harder but oh well
OMG... I have been looking and looking to find a channel that shows me how to widen my jeans n those sorta silky jersey . Er...I dunno what the materials are cuz I wear bell bottoms all the time because I wear an air cast on my left leg and foot and I literally just happened upon your channel at 5:00 a.m. On a Sunday morning and I am so super pleased how I super believe in fate plays a funny hand. Thank you so much! Can't wait to watch all your tutorials❤❤
Hi Angelina! I need this desk in my life! I will be referring back to this vid to alter my jeans. Your ensembles are chic, current, flirty, fun, professional, and fashion-forward.
As always…your choices and makes are on point…💜 But from this video…I was struck speechless. So with the few words I have left, all I can say is THE DESK!!! OMG!!! My kids are going to have to step up this Christmas. Periodt.
That work table/desk is 🔥🔥🔥. Can’t wait to calm a space to have such piece. Love the how the jeans turned out. They look and fit you well. As always, thanks for the tutorials.❤️
thank god for this tutorial😭 i just bought my dream jeans because i found them second hand for a bargain price and eventhough they’re my usual size, they absolutely refuse to go over the top of my thighs :,,,,) i was hoping there’d be a way to widen the leg a little at home so thank you!!!!
Could the panel be inserted in the inseam so its hidden a bit more? As someone with muscular calves this is the answer I need to convert jeans to fit them properly!
Yes it's possible by hand, but denim is heavier fabric. Make sure to use a sturdy needle (sharp point but a bit thicker), and wear a thimble to push the needle through layers if you need. Good luck.
Cool videos. Thanks for sharing a link for your table. I plan to get one in the future. I sew leather for a hobby and it gets uncomfortable on the body. So I appreciate this. Happy New Year.

Yes, we did this too!

I was today years old when I found out how to properly use the seam ripper 🤯 I mean, who knew what the ball side was for?? 😅🤷🏽♀️
I just learned a couple years ago. 😆
Omgosh. I never knew either and I’ve been sewing over 50 years!! 😂
What is the ball side for???
@@annieruiz244 watch the video!
You use the ball to run under your stitches so you don’t cut the material

The challenge is to find a matching piece of jean material though!
If you can't find an exact match, perhaps make it a design feature, and add two triangles that are very contrasting, or even patterned denim.
Try Good Will.
We did this in the 1970s to make our bellbottoms wider. We used various print fabrics for contrast.
Loved the jeans. I think they'd also look spectacular with a patterned fabric/different color denim to spice it up a bit.
Honestly, that might look even better, because you don't have the difference between the hems to worry about.
I aggree
You deserve this lovely table! The assurance in the way you handle your garments helps to encourage people. You are a born teacher, as well as a garment artist. Thank you for your work!
you gave great directions .. and showed what was required ... but I would have liked to see the finished jeans ... and how they look ...
Love those jeans. I totally want to make these, but first I need to set up my new space. No more projects until I get that done. What size table did you buy? I want it for my new workspace! The base is very sturdy and stable. I think it will be fine because of the weight, it will sink in and not move.
@@BlueprintDIY That table though….

First let me say that table is everything OMG. And I love Godets I usually top stitch just for a added flare.

You workspace looks really well organised and do like the color coordination
Thanks!
I love the end look with the new seam lines on the side. It gives it a unique but subtle character.
Just made some wide leg jeans but instead of denim I put some chiffon on the side panels! Thanks for this tutorial!
the jacket with that long white tunic and heels look so so so good.

Cute outfits you put together love the Bob cats varsity look💥

Hi Wendy! Welcome to the BlueprintDIY family! 🤗
Could I half skinny jeans and use the lower leg fabric for expanding the upper? Make skinny jeans into wide shorts?
Hi, super new to all things sewing- quick question: could this be done with a material other than denim?
Yes, absolutely
your sewing room is what I aspire to have some day!! Also, loved the vid, new subscriber

what if u did all those steps but adding fabric to the inner leg of your jeans

Looks like the turned out great. Love that table.
Thank you!! 😊
This is a great find 💕 what’s even cooler, I was once the mascot for the Dumas Bobcats 🐾 💜💛
