Epic RealityScan vs RealityCapture Tutorial & Iphone Photogrammetry 3D scan comparison / UE5

  • In this video I did a quick budget photogrammetry comparison using the Iphone 12, my friends yard and broken plant pot. Both processes were incredibly quick well under 15 minutes. The RC model cost 0.39 dollars and needs a high end PC, the RealityScan needs just an apple phone and network connection at time of writing.
    I used Blender to trim and position geometry, and import into Unreal Engine 5.0.0 new third person character template.
    Compare on my sketchfab - sketchfab.com/...
    Try the beta - testflight.app...

    I got a suggestion: compare RealityScan to PolyCam.

    Great comparison, I'm excited to see where this goes once it's out of beta. I really love epics monetisation model that you only get charged once you actually make money and since it's so integrated in their ecosystem it should be easy to share quickly

    Great comparison. RealityScan looks really promising but I'll wait for them to announce the pricing before getting too excited.

      That’s not how they do it. Unreal Engine / Epic developer tools are always free. Always. You only pay if you make money… Don’t speak if you don’t know.

    Thanks for all your brilliant info! I FINALLY got myself a decent pc laptop so I could dive into photogrammetry and creating assets (especially around Japan) a lot more seriously! I don’t know much about pc’s but sincerely hoping I do not hit any walls with the size of investment I made lol! Going to need to review all your content again for the 3rd or 4th time lol
    Hope you have kept yourself well these crazy times!

    Nice review! I kind of wished you could feed images from your phone library to the app and preview the textures before exporting. I sometimes use my phone to capture pictures and send it over to my pc to process them.
    Realitycapture obviously got the better mesh and detail but Realityscan might be interesting depending on the price point.

      @@MrKams1 that is just not true, if you use nanite and set settings to, lets say 200k plolys on screen, it need next gen hardware ofc, but it is designed for games, i already use it for tech demos build only with nanite megascans geometry, and it runs 2k with 45 fps, out of the box, without any optimization.

      @MrKams1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a huge fan of open source but the only option I have used (Meshroom) does not compare in quality, speed and ease of use to RC

    • @ChrisJD64
      @ChrisJD64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, but what? There is nothing open source that gets close to reality capture. A set of images that Reality Capture processes in 10 minutes and produces an excellent mesh, can take many hours in the likes of meshroom to produce a far worse result. If there is some secret open source project that gets anywhere close to reality capture in terms of speed and quality i'd like to know what it is?
