Thank you for the time stamps. My greatest concern in the study tome hours vs. My full time job. I've never done online school and I'm nervous, but I want my BSN for nursing. Love your video check ins. 👍
I have only seen the first five minutes so I may add more later. But in case I forget, I wanted to throw this out. So many prospective WGU students want to know how quickly you can do a course. A big part of that depends on you and your educational background. If you have a bachelor’s degree then knocking out a paper on a few hours is not a problem. But if you’re just starting your educational journey it may take a bit longer, particularly at first. Or if you’re fresh out of high school and great at math you may be able to knock out a college algebra course in a couple of hours. Just don’t get discouraged. If you start with Comp 1 and you hear someone talk about doing a paper in a couple of hours it doesn’t say anything about you if you need more time. A 500 word essay about your journey to WGU may take you a couple of days. You may need to read the book to learn what is expected. You will likely need to learn MLA. That’s ok. Later in the program you’ll likely accomplish things more quickly than the person you’re comparing yourself to. Or you may choose to go more slowly and soak everything in. It is your journey, there is no need to compare yourself to someone else. It isn’t a race to a degree.
Lots of great thoughts and ideas here! Thanks for sharing. That's what I love about competency-based education: you can work at whatever competency-level you are at. For example, for some courses, I accelerated through because I had a lot of prior knowledge and experience in the given area while other courses I deliberately slowed down and to learn and register the material. Competency-based education makes a lot of sense, particularly for those who want to accelerate or go at a "regular" or slower pace. It's all customizable and personalized. I suppose one main reason many people are fixated on the accelerated path at WGU is because of the dramatic difference in price when completing in one term. I've known a handful of people who can only afford one term and are trying to avoid further debt. But still, each journey within that accelerated path is unique.
