    I almost bought a new 30K SUV because I "needed" it for our family or 7. Instead I spent $900 to fix our 12 year old van. I avoided 30K in debt because of Dave Ramsey.

      John Lester Except next month there will $2000 in repairs. It’s cheaper to buy a whole car than every part individually. Putting money into an old car is throwing good money after bad. If a car needs more than $750 worth of repairs get rid of it and buy a better car. You could buy a $10k car instead of a new $30k car.

    • @natalielinden
      @natalielinden 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@user-tb7rn1il3q the $10K car would also need repairs. The car we have has been reliable with minimal cost. It really depends on the car, of course.

If she still doesn’t get it, then you know this isn’t the best person for you and you just saved yourself a lifetime of financial problems. If she jumps on board with FPU, then she will have her own decision-making power and you will have a great partner.

    My wife wanted to buy a brand new car when we first met and I asked her what was wrong with her current car. I told her not to get a new car because it wouldn’t be a smart financial decision on her part. She ended up getting her dream car later, and I helped her find it, but it took time and patience before she was ready. She listened to me and still thank me to this day for being honest with her. We have no car payments.

      That's the worst marriage advise I've ever heard. It's not to research statistics. It's to research the reasons why people divorce and fully understand the purpose of marriage. If people based their decisions on statistics, then they'll never get married.

    I don’t know as they are only dating a year and not engaged , and she doesn’t have a father so her brother in law is trying to help. Cars are always a depreciating asset and a pre-owned would be the way to go but not sure how much say he has till he puts a ring on her finger. And if she’s going to have a great job- how much will she be making and would you rather her have a reliable car that will keep her safe or a car for the cash she has which might be one or two thousand?
