Why am I so attractive yet I'm not a supermodel? Life is full of strange mysteries but we all must adapt and try to find our own definition of happiness

This looks so much better than many games that came out years later. It's amazing what some skilled, devoted programmers were able to accomplish with 90s technology

Love this channel man keep up the good work. You remind me of a less vulgar Civvie-11.

I've always felt this game is actually the world's first 3D metroidvania: there's no RPG elements outside getting better gear or weapons to access new areas like a Zelda game, most of which are Deus Ex style augmentations, we have a massive open world separated by elevators we need to explore in different areas to complete different objectives, and like Metroid, some levels are a confusing maze and there's a time bomb escape sequence at the end. (Though in System Shock there's no actual time limit unless you play on the hardest mission difficulty setting, which gives you 7 hours to beat the game)

As always, I can see the time and effort that you put in these videos. It's also refreshing to see a youtuber that isn't sponsored by raid shadow legends or Nordvpn. Hope you'll continue to provide us with quality content, it's much appreciated!

I get why the design of the game was the way it was. It was an immersive sim where you could lose yourself in. I dreamt about games like this in the 90s. I would have played the living shit out of it then, but I never came across it. I did play SS2 a lot, though.

Great video though two notes: a) the engine wasn't written from scratch, it is based on the Ultima Underworld engine (the file formats are even very similar between the games) and b) the Enhanced Edition works perfect under Linux with Wine - in fact this is how i first tried it when i bought it on GOG :-).

Overall a good a video but there are few things I disagree with, I can’t say I’ve never gotten lost except on level 7 or minded the controls or graphics
So aside from 7 I never got confused
And I love the sprites myself and think they look good and very unique
I don’t think the animations are bad and I love all the designs and don’t think any enemies are ugly, quite the opposite
But to each their own/agree to disagree

I obviously disagree, but nevertheless fucking loved this game.
Also, GREAT work on SHODANPEDIA! I've referred to your wiki a shitload of times while researching the series.

@@RUFUSsVideoGameGraveyard Thats ok, but we all have different tastes and experiences. Hopefully the levels and controls become more familiar eventually and the sprites grow on you and maybe you won’t mind the animations as much but even if not to each their own. Aside from those things I disagreed with, it is a good video and glad to hear you still enjoyed it
Thank you so much, glad to here you found it useful a lot of work is put into it.
If you ever make any other System Shock videos, hopefully you continue to find it useful

Between this and SS2, it's hard to pick which one is the better game.

The skull and fire extinguisher. Two useless items I've also picked up in Deus Ex 😊
Actually you can spray the extinguisher at enemies to blind them similar to the pepper sprayer! So not totally useless

Look at you, Rufus, a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can challenge a perfect immortal machine?
I've never played System Shock (not beyond the first level), but I have played through SS2 multiple times, as well as a bevy of its spiritual successors. I fully intend to give Nightdive's remake of SS1 a shot when it comes out. There's also an enhanced edition of SS2 in the works, as well as System Shock 3, with Warren Spector involved, though the rights to SS3 were recently bought by Tencent.

The only thing that is preventing me from playing the first system shock for now is the controls, it's crappy as fuck.

@8Man yeah some time later, when i posted this comment, i had a really old laptop, and it didn't support OpenGL so couldn't run the remastered version. Maybe i'll play it after i'm done with the MGS series.
