    Eeek!!!
It's getting close! We're almost done building or dream home in Nashville, TN.
Since this is our second home build we've learned a thing or two (or three, or four, or MORE...... lol) and wanted to pass those tips onto you.

    1. Don't get kicked out of your rental house
    2. Don't buy things.
    3. Look at things.

Sounds like your #1 complaint in this video could have easily been resolved by asking for a detailed build schedule and keeping the PM accountable to that schedule. It also sounds like you had a bunch of change orders.

Great tips! Especially love the idea of "see it before you believe it" - never thought to actually just find the houses that have what I want and see it ahead of time.
Of course, I'm nowhere at the point where I can build my dream house, but something for the future 😄

I love how the last tip to 'save money' is to put it all on credit... where you will spend more money in the long run paying interest...

Exactly. When I heard that I realized, "Oooooh, these are tips for people who have an annual household income of $120k+ and credit cards with 10's of thousands in available credit." lol "For those who want to build their dream home and buy a brand new full size SUV...." smh

Great video! I've been in the real estate investing and remodeling business for 15 years, and you're so right about being realistic about deadlines. The bigger your project, the more variables have to happen correctly to be "on time." A little patience and flexibility can certainly reduce a lot of stress. But I also like to have that deadline to hold the contractor's feet to the fire!

Painted brick isn't a good move, just trending and requires alot of maintenance over time. If you want that look go with a white sand faced brick or better yet, a white through-the-body brick.

As a builder I can agree that building houses has a lot of contribution factors that can cause a house to be finished late.

I'm years away from this... but would love to (someday) build a dream home! Open floor plan concept, big garage (with a gym!) and beautiful BRIGHT naturally lit rooms (gotta have it for TH-cam videos 😉 )

to be honest... your tips are things that common sense couples would already do
      such as:
      1) look at live model examples
      2) make a need vs want list
      3) structural is more expensive than other upgrades to add later

I like the non-negotiable list! It is a great idea especially when it comes down to something like building a dream home. I'll definitely have my own list when the time comes for a new home. Great video!

Great Video! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Canackenzie Astounded Cure (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for building better sheds and master woodworking minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got astronomical success with it.

Painted brick, the dumbest thing ever - take the diverse beauty and reduced maintenance of brick and paint it. Ugh!! Congrats to you both nonetheless.
