Thank you for this, I've been considering a duo Panama-Costa Rica trip & this really gave me a nudge to visit. I know that on average, Costa Rica is safer than Panama but Panama still isn't bad for the region. There are far worse place around these countries..

Panana city doesn't have 4 million people, it has less than 2 million. The whole country has around 4.5 million people.
El Chorillo was the area that was virtually destroyed in the 1989 invasion and hasn’t recovered.
