    Phew...........withdrawal symptoms have now subsided after watching your video. Thought you'd forgot about us Russell! Looks like a great machine. 1) Little box upfront: your head net and jacket for the flies and some spare go pro batteries for the journey! 2) Rear Storage: Tripod and other camera accessories and a Dr Pepper for when you go to Subway on your Outlander! I bet you could buy a decent aftermarket Gear Knot on amazon! Anyway now that I have forfilled my duties I look forward to your next video Russell.
    PS: Please don't keep me hanging to long :-)
    I am currently in the process of investigating the prospect of me immigrating to Canada and setting up Off Grid as I can't think of anything better.
    I started off watching My Self Reliance but your videos are so much more interesting!

      Thanks for the comments, John. I had to google what the hell a gear knot was. LOL. Figured it out. Hey I've been putting out videos, maybe you're missing them? Go to my channel and look at the video list to make sure.

    Those rear hand guards are probably that way on purpose to allow them to flex when you bump them getting on and off the machine. If they were hard plastic, they would probably break pretty quickly. Looks like you picked out a good one.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think they need to be hard plastic, just a second mounting point would have been a good idea.

    Hard to tell if you are impressed with it or disappointed. I heard as much criticism as I did good. What is your overall feeling about the machine. Kinda agree with you..remove the rear storage. A lot more space to strap things. Curious about the power of the machine is it a lot stronger than the other?

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Overall I think this machine is going to do well. Just not happy with all it's features. It's 78HP, it's a little stronger than the old 800.

    If you gonna drive on the road very much I suggest you get a detachable windshield for it!!! A windshield really helps with knocking down the chill in winter & if you ever get caught in the rain 🌧 it helps with not getting soaked as bad. But the biggest benefit is keeping you from being as cold as it blocks a lot of cold wind from direct contact to your body.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think I'll be on the road much. The bike is mainly for getting to the cabin and hauling crap.

      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, I'm glad you got something out of that. I'm planning a 1 year follow up soon. Short version: Both passenger hand shields broke off, rather easily, and the cargo box even more easily. Best upgrade is the aluminum skid plate. Also best: heated hand grips. Wow do they make a difference.

      Raspberry Rock - Off Grid Cabin that’s good to know! Was the rear box the can am 86ltr big one? Or after market?

    Those birds sound just like our sandhill cranes. We never had any in the area (NW WI all my life-60's on) but a pair settled about 5 years ago now and come back every year, with friends...or relatives.

  • @TheBibliofilus
    @TheBibliofilus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The small box on the front is the glovebox and supposed to be attached where the passenger seat is behind the driver seat as stock.
    Also a rear trunk tips, put a bungie strap around the shiny tip-over bar below the trunk and hook it in the rear bumper to keep it from opening accidentally if you got stuff in there!

    • @TheBibliofilus
      @TheBibliofilus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also thought about getting the big box but thought it was a bit too expensive and fancy.
      So I got the open metal storage bin (715001215) instead, which is really sturdy and mounted some extra holders like external can holders to that and its perfect for carrying a chainsaw and accessories.

  • @stephenrickettsNL
    @stephenrickettsNL 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just in case you are not aware, the main purpose of that small cargo box on the front rack is to fill in the void left at the rear when you remove the passenger seat. A lot of people do not know this. Makes for a level surface if you remove the rear seat and rear cargo box.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great lookin' machine Russ! Hope its everything you need on the Rock. I dig the aluminum skid plating and axle boot guards. My terrain here is not as treacherous as your trail, but I have gotten tree branches thru my plastic boot guards and tore one of them. Still need to replace the boot, but i just pump it full of grease. Speaking of grease, you should get to know where all the grease fittings are on your machine and grease them frequently since you go thru all that water. Its a simple task even the mechanically disadvantaged man can do. Happy trails to you!

    Great review Russ. Nice choice this machine is gonna be perfect for you and Alicia with the two up option. I own a Canam Defender side by side so am familiar with Can Am, having said that I have the corded remote and my machine had a port wear it plugs in and the cord is 6 feet long, you can also get a cordless remote for the warn winchs, just so you know. One thing I did this past winter was put tracks on my Defender, we had a lot of snow and this machine and the tracks are amazing, there was not any snow condition that I would get stuck in, took a bit to get use to them but they are awesome. They are all season tracks. Cheers MT

      @MegaMadTrapper 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Russ, yes tracks are expensive, just wanted you to know in case you had wondered or thought about how well they work as I did before when I was considering them. The cordless remote for the warn winch is 234.99. Involves some installation work of the model but it looks like it's plug and play other than the mounting of the module itself. Cheers MT

If it wasn't already mentioned there is a little swing down leg on the top cover of the rear box on the left side facing it to hold it open. Not sure if you knew that or mentioned it? Not familiar with this make of ATV (Where is it made?). Seems to me that the small front box is meant to store documents, handbook, mobile telephone etc. and is easily detachable so that you can use it like a Briefcase when you go into Subway or a Supermarket etc. I wouldn't want to ride those tyres/tires on Asphalt more than absolutely necessary. You should put a piece of elk antler for your gear shifter or a small mirror ball on top of the new handle lol. Yep that is one nice bike makes me want to upgrade mine. Good to hear you are getting a helmet Russ safety first young man all the best from Alberta Canada 🍁

    Nice review of your new ATV even though I was looking around at the scenery too ;) The rear and front storage boxes are practical for a trail rider but not for you. You bring in and out a lot of supplies and the racks will be useful. Someday you will finish construction and then use the trailer alone. The storage boxes will be useful again when you don't need to use the racks.
    I snowmobile too so the heated handles and trigger are useful. My ATV is a 2 UP also and the extra length I find useful when going up slopes or down... it's less tippy. You are living the life bud .... cheers.

      Thanks for the comments Tyboy. I forgot to show how easy it is to remove and reinstall the cargo box on the box. It's almost as easy as the front one is. Which is very nice.

      @@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin Yes, I watched your follow up video. I live in Southern Arizona and encounter dirt and rock on 99.9% of occasions (However we did get 4 inches of snow last year). I'm wondering if the stock wheels will do the trick for my uses as I am trying to save some money on this purchase. I am like you and have zero interest in climbing hills at 80mph on two wheels. It was really nice to see a video of somebody using there ATV for practical purposes, there are a lot of videos of people doing crazy stuff on these things, while cool, just nothing I would ever consider doing. Keep the videos coming your doing a great job!

    You selected the model with the extra storage bins and so on, so why pick them apart??? I chose the L model which does not have extras, if I want extras I can pick what I want.

    New subscriber also. I was wondering why the trailer 's wheels are so small. Is there a reason for this? Here in Australia are normal size relative to the ATV.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin

      The trailer is a bit of a Frankenstein now. I bought a road - worthy axel but can't find off road tires the right size with 5 bolt pattern. I need to get the Wizard to fix me something
