  • Learn Thai with Joy and Randy. Forget Thai with Mod, Banana Thai and the Let's Learn Thai channel . . . at least for one video. 🙂 Here are twenty words you already know . . . sort of. Words that are the same, or similar, to English, so almost nothing to remember. You already know them. Plus we will show you how to make a basic sentence when ordering food and say "I'd like a beer/pizza" et cetera.
So if you are coming to visit us in Chiang Mai, or maybe you are on your way to Bangkok, or Phuket . . . we hope these words will get you started and feeling a little bit Thai.

Hi Randy and Joy! I love your channel and your smiles, everything you share with us is precious. Pom chawp gamlang rian paa-sa tai, chawp gamlang puut paa-sa tai maak! Anyone who spends time in Thailand should learn the language. No excuses - learning Thai language is about the same difficulty as learning Spanish.

Good for you, Peter! And good studen already knowing gamlang, one of the many words the Thais use in place of verb tenses. Thankfully they have so few compared to other languages.

Randy this video is fantastic and very helpful. I hope you do many more like it so that when people like me that are going to Thailand can get a great head start with the language and to be more respectful to the Thai culture. Also I want to say that you are very lucky to have a girlfriend like Joy because she is such a likable person and a great example of how special I think Thai people are. I can’t wait to get there even if I only stay there for six months of a year and six months in Hawaii. You both make great videos. I hope that I can find someone like Joy when I go there.

Matt, thanks for all the nice words, from both Joy and me. You will have no problem meeting a nice Thai woman because clearly you are a nice and sincere man, and that is most important. I think you meet most not online but in day-to-day Thai life when you are here. Best wishes!

I just watched this vlog. I can't believe you got only 993 views! I personally found it to be the best 101 lesson in Thai language. Very useful to me. I learned a great deal especially about how the Thai languages constructs sentences and the simplicity of the grammar. Very helpful. Please make more videos like this so I can learn more about the language! Thanks.

I think I would have a much easier time as a native French speaker learning Thai than an English speaker, such as I am. The conjugations sound the same in French, only varying by spelling. Je veux, tu veux, il veut, elle veut. 'Four' in Thai sounds lke ''sept,' or 7, in French. I could be totally wrong and just looking for any port in a storm as someone whups my rear end in connect 4. (That's where I learned my numbers. 😜) I'm excited to learn that Joy is an English teacher too. Marveilleuse! Elle est une bonne professeuse, tres gentille et intelligente. Remercies a vous.

Sawadee Jaow(Chiang mai version, instead of Kap) Khun Randee and Khun Joy.
And say 20 baht in Thai is Yeesip baht but in Chiang Mai it's Saow baht.. my fellow Northern Thai folk..😜

Yes, Joy is always using Lanna dialect and I hear Jaow a lot from her. I never noticed her saying the saow baht but I asked her and she said yes. Hey, I have enough trouble learning traditional Thai, but my daughter often speaks some Lanna dialect, and of course Joy does. Thanks for your always great comments Consul Thai.

Hahaha..I once was a candidate for Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai.. But the play on words was more about consult Thai, eliminating the double T.
I once received a warning from the Thai Embassy about the email address being misleading to their function so I explained my function about consulting in a business sense . Then they left me alone to consult .. Nowdays I mainly consult my wife and family .😉
