I truly believe shopping locally from a breeder is the best way to go. Less transit time and you can see what you are getting. Tank is coming along nicely.
I know you took a loss but I think these new discus colors look so much better together. I’ve learned that sometimes getting fish from a small breeder is better than a larger distributor. I’m currently preparing for a discus set up I think. Great content as always.
I’m full marine now but this makes me get a small discus tank again. I bought multiple fish from Miranda she is amazing. I do miss my yellow checkerboard and snow leopard I got from her.
About a week ago I got my shipment from Chicago Discus. Absolutely stunning fish in excellent health. I got 2 Classic Leos, Golden Checkerboard, Golden, Penang Eruption and a Blue Diamond. Looking at already ordering 2 more 😂 hopefully they start settling soon and eat for me more regularly. 20/10
I think it's a very smart move to not include the pleco. Those Cories will look great in there. Thanks for the video. I can't keep a tank that size but it was fun to see your journey with it.
I gotta say i was very disappointed when i saw the quality of discus Gabe sent you. he had huge shoes to fill from Jack, and that's not good. chicago discus should be the quality from Watley. Amazing fish. I'm glad you found them. love this set up!
I agree. I’m glad I didn’t Oder from them plus the shipping is extremely too high. Everyone dotes on how good they are but I believe they just get too many in and can’t keep up. I’m thinking discus Hans might be better or about the same. Shoot I can get them from Petco and actually see what I’m getting and they special order.
@Makia Pierson Yeah i have to agree to some point to that as well... Just don't think i want to because I've always looked up to Jack Wattley. Gabe is going in his own direction with the company which is good but you still need quality fish to supply your customers with. I'd expect those from a common shop or pet co but not Jack. oh well. Hopefully things get better with him
Awesome tank! I have always wanted discus but they are a delicate fish. My water is very hard so it would be a battle to keep the ph lower. My water ph is over 8
Beautiful I’m about to set up a 90 gal corner tank I scored at a LFS for $150! I’m finishing up the stand repainting ! It’s gonna be a Discus tank too! 🎉❤
I'm glad to see that your new discus are so amazing, this fish is a nightmare to find in excellent quality, many many shops have them but a few of them are top notch, you've been unlucky with the red torquoises
Troy, Beautiful tank the discus are not cheap and to loose 3 of them ouch. Cory cats i noticed are hit and miss. They may have been poisoned if they were in a bag of 6 that is probably what killed them. When they get stressed they release a poison under there tail and it probably affected them and it was to late. It is common cory cat poisoning. The german blues are great fish they seem delicate if parameters arent good. I just had one die on me but i think it was from being bullied to much. I pulled him out of the tank and put him in a different peaceful tank but he didn't make it. If your looking for some more bottom feeding fish i recommend black kuhli loaches they would look so good on that lighter sand. A school of 6 of them. Because 6 Cory in a 90 gal it is going to take them a long time to clean up lol. Some rasboras are great tank mates and great schooling fish. I did just add a kribensis to my 20 long community tank. He is my center piece fish and a show stopper. Appreciate you being real on here and showing us your struggles to.
I want to add some discus to my tank of electric blue acara and albino threadfin heckelii. I have the temperature around 77 set in my tank. How much daily or weekly should increase my temperature to get to 82 for the discus?
Taking the off chance that someone can give me some guidance. I'm thinking about setting up a 175g or larger, maybe 250g discus tank. I'll be living in Houston TX that has hard water and high ph. Around 8.0. What kind of filtration would you recommend, but also is there some sort of system that can be fitted to the kitchen sink that would provide softer water. Perhaps like a reverse osmosis type thing? My other thought is doing a rainbows tank since they already like harder water. But I'm thinking it's got to have a canister filter, or what is the best type of filtration for a 250g freshwater tank?
Awesome discus tank, did you installed UV light on it,I’m not lucky with discus IDK why I tried small ones, big ones but it didn’t does well and lose them.i’ve been good with tanganyikan and Malawi cichlids.even red bellied piranhas and South American cichlids
You should consider doing the triple medication treatment that Aquarium Co-op recommends for all new fish. Might have saved that second batch of fish in your quarantine system.
Dear I hv 80 glow tetra and 20 tiger barbs in 80 gal tank with 10 gal sump filter total 90 gal tank. Can I add discus in same tank with Glow Tetra and Tiger barbs
That's really unfortunate you had an issue with Jack wattleys discus I have 9 discus from them and they're doing great even when I had an issue in the beginning I reached out and they were great on helping me out with getting them back to good health other than that beautiful discu you picked out
I thought you shouldn't mix Discus from different sources. I have some of the Stenker Discus from Hans, but that whole breeding program has been shut down. Did you have to add anything to the aquarium to allow the Discus to be able to mix like a chemical or anything?
Awesome tank! I have always admired discus tanks. What type of water are you using? Tap or R/O? If tap what are your water parameters? If R/O what do you reconstitute it to?
Funny thing is I live like 20 minutes away from Jack Wattley and after reading the reviews on Google I was definitely skeptical about his shop, now I’m watching this video and it’s making it worse lol. I’m still going to walk in there and just hand pick 4 discus to start with and I’ll be my own judge of that. Everything is telling me not to go there but I’m still going 😂
@@CichlidBros went to Wattleys but didn’t like the scene, ended up buying local about an hour away grabbed 2 leopards 2 melons and 2 pigeon bloods. Thanks for video though definitely understand why your fish didn’t make it from there now.
I bought 7 otocinclus and 8 german blue rams from JW. All the fish arrived extremely thin with 1 oto DOA. I quarantined everyone, but eventually lost 5 of the German rams and 5 of the otos. I will never buy fish from JW again. I have found other vendors that sell healthy fish.
Nice tank. But you clearly need more plants get a bunch of stem plants and floating tanks. Will keep the quality of water great and then you won't need to do many water changes. Also get clean up crew fish. It will be a low maintenance tank
Not necessarily. In the opinion of another TH-cam channel the more stuff you have for them the hide behind the less you will see the. He has a centerpiece that consists of driftwood and plants and his discus are gorgeous. As a matter of fact he has more than one tank with them.
@@makiarn777 yes but I would sacrifice that with not having to do water changes 2 times a week. That's madness.with plants he could limit water changes to 1 time a month or even once every 3 months!
You should never have different fish with discus fish maybe Ted nose but never like bottom feeder like alge cleaning or placo they're to cleaning up your discus as food instead
I truly believe shopping locally from a breeder is the best way to go. Less transit time and you can see what you are getting. Tank is coming along nicely.
I’ve learned this as well and agree
Beautiful tank. Thank you for also sharing your struggles as I'm sure we can all relate to that. Keep up the awesome videos
Amazing tank! I love Discus and Rummy Nose Tetras together too. Beautiful colors!
Awesome additions to your tank! The colors and patterns are beautiful
Thank you!

Thank you! Definitely enjoying the new colors more now 👌🏻
Adding discus from multiple sources without proper QT is a big risk. Im very glad it worked out for you!
Looks incredible, Troy!!!
Thanks man!
Can definitely relate to the struggles Troy haha. It's looking great though, and when those plants grow in it's going to be even more stunning.
Awesome pickups, the tank is really coming together nicely! Loved the sequence of zoolander clips! lol. Keep the quality content coming!
Great looking fish and set up!
Thanks for sharing. A beautiful transformation.
Thanks for watching!
That leopard and penang really stand out among the 4 new additions! Love your videos bros keep em coming !
Thank you! Excited to have them!
Beautiful combo of discus
This tank looks amazing!Love the colors on the new discus you added.
Thank you!

Thank you, appreciate that!
Wow wicked 🔥

Beautiful. My next goal tank
Thank you, and awesome!
Beautiful new additions
Thank you!
I have four Discus tanks and most of mine are from Myrtle Beach Discus. Discus Hans and Chicago Discus are on my list to order from soon!
I'd recommend Chicago Discus for sure!
@CichlidBros I watched your video and they definitely have great colors and quality of Discus.
"I'm in dept up to my eye balls"
Beautiful tank and fish! Sorry you had such a bad experience ordering them online.
I’m full marine now but this makes me get a small discus tank again. I bought multiple fish from Miranda she is amazing. I do miss my yellow checkerboard and snow leopard I got from her.
Will Miranda give discounts for buying a half-dozen discus or more at once?

How are they doing now? Im planning for these discus in my new tank. Tank mates are going to be angels.
WOW awesome 👍❤it
Gorgeous tank!
Thanks!
So beautiful omg I love them 💜
Love the Discus! Do you have a video on your quarantine process for new fish? Would love to hear about your method.
Great fish.

Hi, that's a great video. Have you noticed any peppering on the discus since the background is black?
Sorry for your struggle. I'd sop buying fish from Jack Whatley 😊

Now it looks beautiful. But discus are not the easiest fish. I've had them in my aquarium for years, and I'm still learning something about them 👍👍👍
Did any die?

Awesome, love to hear it!
7:05 so your refill with tap straight from the faucet and then add the prime? What about the chlorine? Is that work instant?
Yep. Prime removes all toxins and works quickly. Never had an issue
Rummy nose really are great alarm systems for tanks. Good choice 🎉
Are you using fertilizer or root tabs for your plants?
Agreed! And yep, I use root tabs and easy green fertilizer
I'm glad to see that your new discus are so amazing, this fish is a nightmare to find in excellent quality, many many shops have them but a few of them are top notch, you've been unlucky with the red torquoises

How do you know how many fish to put in a tank? I’m upgrading to a 90gallon but unsure how to plan how many fish I can have.
You should consider doing the triple medication treatment that Aquarium Co-op recommends for all new fish. Might have saved that second batch of fish in your quarantine system.
Yeah I usually do a variation of that for QT. Unfortunately these just weren’t gonna be saved

Troy do you wormer your discus
Did you decide to remove the wooden canopy you originally had when you set it up?
I take it off for maintenance. Sometimes leave it off for a bit, but usually it's on
I just fish in like yolo, fuck it. Many happy healthy fish.
Do you know the nitrate level with two 25% water change weekly?
Stays around 5-10ppm
I watch your videos, where do you usually buy these fish?
I got these discus locally at Chicago Discus
I noticed one of the rummy nose is different do you know what fish that is?
Actually not sure what that one is. But tried to blend in with the others lol
I’ve looking online and to me it looks like a green line lizard tetra (Iguanodectes spilurus)

What type of water are you using?
Tap or R/O?
If tap what are your water parameters?
If R/O what do you reconstitute it to?
Using tap. Ph 8.0. Just keeping parameters consistent and they’ll be fine
Just get 1 bule diamond or cobalt blue and see the difference it will make to your tank.. Just one more though :-)
What are the dimensions of the aquarium?
I lost my tiger turquoise there too.

hi were all the discus german or Asian?
Imported from Malaysia
So you are not gonna talk about the random tetra in the middle of the school of rummynose ?

Not sure what this comment is trying to say, but you can absolutely have bottom dwellers like corys and Plecos with discus. They’re ideal tank mates
Theres no need to quarantine from Jack Whitely. He already quarantined before they are shipped to him. Watch his videos.
Clearly they did need quarantine as they were sick fish
Those 2 tiger turquoise looked emaciated 😢 Disappointing..
It wasn’t the best order from Jack Wattley. I treated the tank
Your older fish are very skinny, don't you wonder?
is not a healthy discus from jack wattley , Chicago discus is good quality, Jack wattley is only the name , not recommended to buy on jack wattley
