Today I cleared out my wardrobe, found a purple/spacey sweater with a space cat on it that's too small for me and turned it into a skirt. And it went pretty great! I haven't sewed in a really long time and the skirt got a bit tight but I can still wear it and I'm so excited to do that :)

+caramelapplecrack I really do want to make this video, but just because i know I'll take forever to get around to it...
My first sewing machine was a Brother JS1400 and it was a fantastic beginners machine. Served me very well for 3 years. I moved up to a "computerised" intermediate-level sewing machine, just because I needed some more stitches and options, and the overlocker mostly helps with making things look "neat" and for stretch fabrics - but I would have been *totally* overwhelmed if i'd started on those two machines! Definitely start off with a cheap, simple but robust machine like the cheaper Brother models :) Good luck!

Omg I LOVE this idea, and I have more sweaters than I know what to do with. If I don't have an overlocker, could I use a regular sewing machine? Or would that not work on fabric like this?
