One of the prompts should have been to conquer the project you've bought all of the supplies for but are scared of because of how out of your comfort zone it is. (That's what I'm trying to convince myself to do, but anxiety has taken over to the point I hyperventilate anytime I try to get started)
Oh honey, I hear you loud and clear. After a few sewing fails in a row, my difficult projects sing their siren song to me, albeit in a taunting voice - "do you have the guts to cut into this expensive fabric..hey..hey?".
You can do it! The tiny foxtato believes in you! Also, would it help to make a small thing or other thing that is more into your comfort zone and practices a new out of comfort zone hard thing at the same time? Like, grabbing some scrap fabric and practicing setting in a zipper for a pencil case? Or break down the steps and practice some of them in a different not so serious project? Like creating a well fitting armhole on a simple vest or top? Or practice making shirring for a doll dress? For example, I've been practicing my backstitch handsewing and pattern/armhole shaping on a cheap thrifted denim jacket that was waaay too big on me. I said to myself 'well, I can't ruin it any more than it already is!' (it was not in a good shape when I bought it), and started working on it, step by step, taking my time to decide what the next step should be. So far I've been quite pleased with the results. And it's not a superserious project either, I'm going to use it for gardening so my main coat doesn't get covered in dirt all the time :D. Maybe something similar would help you too?
SQUEE 😆😆 Thats my elephant 😊I'd just like to point out that I also hate the idea of using real animals in the circus, I do not condone that at all. No animals were harmed in the making of that little cutie :)
I am organising my fabric stash as I am watching this. Soon, there will be a lot of projects, when I know what I have. My first project (that is a scrap project) is to make a tailors ham out of scraps that I sew together and fill it with even smaller scraps, instead of using bought stuffing.
To add to the prompt list, one thing I love to sew is frogs!!! They’re really simple to make and I’ve made about 30 so far lmao. Today I made two out of failed quilts, and they turned out so cute. The pattern is also just a simple symmetrical frog shape. I give them cute button eyes, and they don’t all have to be green!! I’ve made some crazy looking frogs. Happy i-sew-lation :D
Oh Great Gods where did you get that pattern? I am absolutely in love with frogs and collect frog-things (the animals I let live outside as they should) and I'd LOVE to sew some
Daan D. I didn’t get the pattern from anywhere in particular! I just looked at a picture of someone else’s frog on Pinterest, and I just copied its shape!
The sewcial isolation prompts are so good! My sewing ideas list only has tailored clothing on it and tbh I'm sick of doing fittings. Just spent three hours correcting the crotch area of a pair of trousers until I realized that crotches never look particularly amazing in the first place lol. Will do some cute scrunchies next, and then coasters (my roommate called dibs on the (ugly) old ones when he moved out).
The sewcial isolation list you made is one of the best sewing lists I have seen. It’s not boring, very doable and just great ideas... saying that I haven’t been up to making any yet 😂
okaaay, so, I've never understood the urge of Victorian (Edwardian?) ladies to faint (at least in books). But as of today, I totally understand! My stuff was mentioned twice! I'm beyond flattered 😱
just a small thing but wanted to say i really love that you use they pronouns for everyone, i think it's such a good way to normalise gender neutral language when we're not 100% sure on someone's pronouns.
The only thing I’ve been sewing lately is some fabric masks for myself. The CDC here in the US (that’s the Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has recommended that people wear non-medical masks in public to help stop the spread of infection from asymptomatic carriers. So I’ve been seeing those. But at least I found some really cute and fun scrap fabric to do it with! I do have a pattern and fabric for a cool 1970’s inspired shirt dress so 1970’s might be fun! I’m also a huge fan of dyeing things so that might be cool too!
I made masks for my boyfriend and myself, and sadly I didn't have enough cute scrap fabric to do two masks. I made a cute one for myself, the pattern has little bears, but I sadly had to use plain black fabric for my boyfriend. So sad that I couldn't find something nicer.
Treka Double I made one with a green vine print fabric and am making another that’s a black and white ditzy floral. They’re leftover scraps from making an 1850’s “housewife” sewing kit so they’re kind of “prairie chic” if you will.
@@jennafelice5159 that's why I didnt want to include masks on this list :) I think we all need a break from sewing medical stuff and thinking about the crisis, some self care sewing is super important!
Those are all amazing! I really really want to turn all my little scraps into a beautiful quilt. For now, my sewcial isolation project has been turning all my old t-shirts into tiny dresses for my toddler girl. ❤
THE ELEPHANT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! I ABOUT DIED AT THE ELEPHANT!!! Also the shark pencil pouch is amazing!! Funny thing is I forgot about this and two of my projects I finished or am working on are nautical theme and using scraps of fabric and yarn.
These were so cool! I've been trying to get into sewing while I've been at home and rather ambitiously have been trying to make a button up shirt even though I'm a relative beginner... thankfully I have my amazing mum home with me to help :) Thanks for all the sewspiration Annika! without your videos I don't think I'd have the confidence to give it a go! (also shout out to Micarah Tewers who also makes sewing way less intimidating)
I have a giant bag of scraps and a best friend who doesn’t like people spending money on her. She will be getting a scrappy quilt when she graduates grad school. Also i just love this. I always try to get my fabric second hand and I just finished cleaning my fabric closet and reorganizing things, so that I can actually see what I have. Currently working on a pinafore (from your tutorial with added pockets) and a stack of things that need alterations.
I'm so excited to try these prompts! You seriously got me moving my sewing machine out of the closet onto my hardly used (because of social isolation) vanity!! Thanks for the positivity and uploading a video during these stressful times :) We love you, Annika!

Repair will be the best, even if it does not win I feel like this is the perfect time to repair clothing that's forgotten because you'll have some fresh pieces to wear without going out to look for clothing, so does dying 💜 love those options

I've made face-masks for my mum and I, a pincushion (that's got a bit of plastic packaging in the bottom of it so the pins don't completely skewer it), am currently working on a jacket (that I started before all of this), fixing a skirt that I love but the zip broke (It's too hard to replace the zip due to the construction, so I'm adding a panel and some eyelets to create a corset style closure. Just need the eyelets honestly) and am making a skirt and top set that are based off something I saw online. It's rough being stuck at home constantly, but at least there are things to do.

It looks like scrap scrunchies are on the list twice (17 and 22) for the #SewcialIsolation challenge. Could I suggest changing one of them to "Reusable straw holder"?
