Not sure you could do anything different, and come out as good as what you will, by doing it as you are... I've done some of this work and there are no shortcuts, but you know that already. I appreciate your work ethic and vision. Thank you for the videos!
You’ve pretty much nailed the way it’s done. If you were to take it to the next level you might try bumping up all the low spots from behind and then using a shrinking disc on the top surface. Basically the shrinking disc (which creates low heat and then shrinkage ) will take the high spots back down to even with the surroundings for a metal finish that doesn’t need filler. I’ve done this on a VW bug fender. I know Cahill autobody uses the shrinking disc for some projects. Easy to make a shrinking disc with some flat stainless and your shrinker jaws a to create a dome shape (Google it). Or it’s good enuff for a driver like you said!
That frontal silhouette looks simply amazing as does the rest of the car as well. I'll never own a 33 or a 38 but it sure is satisfying to know that there is still such beauty out there showing the young folk that in times past men did know what beauty is really all about. 68 was another stand out year for car design but designers today couldn't catch flies with shit.
I can't remember any videos I've seen on youtube that I enjoy as much as yours. Your ingenuity in solving every obstacle encountered on the Pontiac build as well as your shop full of hand made 'specialty' tools is an inspiration. Please keep up the good work, I look forward to every new episode.
Liking the way you explain and demonstrate. I’ve tried just enough to know you’re making it look ‘way easier than it is, but watching how you work is making me think I might just give another try-so thanks. And thanks MUCH for giving us such good stuff in these dismal times. More!
Hey there, Australia here, thanks so much for your videos. They are fun and informative. With this lockdown I am getting plenty of time to practice on my projects. Cheers
You made that sanding job look waaaay quicker than it really is lol. I have a 36 coupe and I need to remove all the rust and paint. Fun times. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Super nice work. You should be teaching how to do metal working to these kids today. Thats a dieing art. Love this Pontiac build and your channel. Thank you
You sir have some mad skills. Great job on metal finish. I worked in a mopar restoration shop. We used to skim coat the hole car.not even a brand new car is perfectly straight. Now people can see what it takes to get a old car looking great again
I'm finding Dan ,Jeff and Dave , and your posts quite the therapy sessions today... got home from work 2 hours ago, suppers in front of me, maybe had 2 bites and I get to go back and do it again tomorrow just a little stressful right now need to decompress. Thanks Guys!
I have to thank you, very much, for your videos. I am a handicapped x-mechanic who loves old cars and truly misses working on them. I spend my days pretty bored, but when I see your videos come up, I feel alive again!!! At this point I have binge watched all of your videos and love them all. So I don't know if you know how much you are appreciated, but I am here to tell you, there are millions of people just like me that live through you and your videos.. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH and please never stop!! Even the parts you think are boring are by far better than what many of us are capable of, so show us the works!!!!! Stay safe!! Steve
I have to do my 39's tail pan, lots of holes, rusted out... Car looks new from 20 feet away... been repainted... Scared to let somebody do it... I gotta learn. Your videos answer questions that I am too dumb to ask. Thanks a ton for posting.
Cool man, but for the most part there are no dumb questions, I mean around my shop we will make fun of a guy but will always help and teach what we know right or wrong haha
What amazes me is that the "racing stripe" chrome down the middle of the hood and grill lasted well in to the 1950s. I love it! I think it's looking great. Regards, Solomon
I’ll watch these type videos anytime over the crap on television where all the shit arrives in boxes. Your passion is inspirational. I’m now back on my projects after work and late into the evenings.
I used to watch and still do DD Speed Shop I reckon you two guys are the coolest guys on the internet I just love watching you to work a lot of times it's just the way you put things together and they just work it looks great it's an awesome car you're building I'm from Australia I wish I was from Canada ID be asking you to build a for me keep up the good work absolutely love it keeps safe to buy the way
More great work Brent! Those fenders turned out great! You are right - sure didn't notice all the little issues until you got after them and took the paint off - but man does she look good now! Impressive
About ten years ago had a chance to buy a 1946 Oldsmobile from my Uncle , It was rust free and setting on a chevelle wagon frame I think ? He sold it before I could get there to pick it up , I'm still kicking myself over that miss , Your Pontiac reminds me a lot of the Olds even though the grills are totally different . Keep the vids coming
That was a cool trick welding that patch and cutting it to fit , never thought of that, thanks for sharing, the music of choice is usually pretty good too , you probably make that too
I am a relative new subscriber and I am really enjoying this build on a car you don't see everyday , it is going to be sweet . I also wanted to say I think Pablo is such a great dog , he seems to be very intuitive and a great friend to have . I look forward to more on this project , stay safe Brent .
Wow it’s coming nice 👍 when it’s primered up we gone see it’s real beauty, 🙏wish you would paint the whole car like the colour of the tear shaped headlights ( it’s. A typical Colour of the’ 40 you do not see anymore, ),when it’s finished gone be a head turner, keep up the good work , keeps me focused in these times of boredness👍
Thanks for the reply. My buddy passed in Dec. 2019. His wife have me his Snap-on mig welder, so I'll be putting can corners, etc in my 1950 International Pickup. It going to see on a 1959 Willys Truck frame with a 1949 Ford pickup axle. And the Flathead 6 Willys motor. Wish me luck! ...Newk from Kentucky
I'm guessing work hardened stress cracks on the front fenders .It's amazing how double crowned "real steel" works out so well .A fine job... well done Brent.
I've been watching, this is my first comment. So far I enjoy this build. I've never done this extensive body work, but I like your approach! This ole' Pontiac is going to be a beast! ...Newk from Kentucky
Again i gotta give you a compliment you have a great looking car there and its turning out soooooooooooooooooo nice wanna say thanks for sharing this you have made my day many times thanks
Front fenders are looking great, compaired to what they looked like when you started. A skim coat of filler and some sanding sould be ready to spray some primer and paint.

Looks good. Think the holes under the head lights are from after market single lights. For your slapped seen some made with a file to shrink the metal.

Just found your channel and hit subscribe. I even like the music. What did you put behind the small holes you were filling? These old ears don't work so well. Thanks, now I've got some catching up to do.
looking good so far , what size wire were you using 023 ? I found it funny in a way when you said you made your slapper from an old leaf spring , because I have one in my tool box also , I believe I used the bottom leaf on an old Falcon spring , small world Frank Travaglio
Hey that's looking great! Now you've got more work to do, haa! Is that a low rpm grinder/polisher you use to strip the rust? Keep it up! You inspire me to go to the shop every night.
May not be the best way to do this but it works for me, what would you folks do different?
Ur doing fine it's ur car bud I just wanna see what you Invision.
I like the grill.
Not sure you could do anything different, and come out as good as what you will, by doing it as you are... I've done some of this work and there are no shortcuts, but you know that already. I appreciate your work ethic and vision. Thank you for the videos!
I have a friend that has been working on his '56 Chevy for minimum 15 years. I'm with YOU on this!

haha yeah everyone styling is kinda the same nowadays, 30's and early 40's had some of the nicest shapes for cars.
Love is a "fat fendered" thing!
I can't remember any videos I've seen on youtube that I enjoy as much as yours. Your ingenuity in solving every obstacle encountered
on the Pontiac build as well as your shop full of hand made 'specialty' tools is an inspiration. Please keep up the good work, I look

Thanks! I appreciate it!
It is a pleasure to watch a master at work.
She’s looking tougher and tougher! Please keep the videos coming.
Will do man!
The beauty of old iron! Couldn't do that with today's garbage. You are kicking ass!!!!
haha hammering on plastic doesn't get you to far now a days haha
The front view is fantastic. Nice hammer and dolly work.
Thanks man, yeah the over all profile is the best looks total Dick Tracey haha
Liking the way you explain and demonstrate. I’ve tried just enough to know you’re making it look ‘way easier than it is, but watching how you work is making me think I might just give another try-so thanks. And thanks MUCH for giving us such good stuff in these dismal times. More!
Thanks dude, have to just keep at it and eventually you'll get it or at least better at it haha
I am restoring a 1966 Ford F100 and watching your videos have really helped me, thanks
Cool, glad I could help!
You just put the smile back on that old beauty, looks great.
Hey there, Australia here, thanks so much for your videos. They are fun and informative. With this lockdown I am getting plenty of time to practice on my projects. Cheers
Thanks for checking out the vids Dave!
Well that looked way more straight forward than I suspect it was. Thanks for sharing your skills.
So much time on those fenders. They're gunna look sweet smashing into cones haha
Fenders are looking good car has come a long ways.
Thanks man!
You made that sanding job look waaaay quicker than it really is lol. I have a 36 coupe and I need to remove all the rust and paint. Fun times. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Thanks man, yeah one can do nuts with this to metal finish but that would take way to much time haha
Yes we would skim the whole car in icing. For final coat transtar high build primer block sand it then finish with paint stick wrapped with sandpaper.

Nice work👍
Haha I know the feeling

That's good therapy there!
That view of the front clip is so beautiful.
yeah man looks great :)
What amazes me is that the "racing stripe" chrome down the middle of the hood and grill lasted well in to the 1950s. I love it! I think it's looking great. Regards, Solomon
Yeah think that was the Pontiac signature deal :)
I’ll watch these type videos anytime over the crap on television where all the shit arrives in boxes. Your passion is inspirational. I’m now back on my projects after work and late into the evenings.
Thanks man, don't need much to get most of this stuff done, don't get me wrong I'll spend money where needed but only if I have to haha
I can smell the grinding dust and rust! Lol...took me back 12 years or so hearing that dolly clink with the hammer!! Looking good Brent!!
haha hammer and dolly is a good sound not always great when I miss :)
You have so much energy and NO FEAR to give this build. I admire that!
Haha thank you much!
that plannishing hammer you got the other day was made for old fenders.. flat dies and keep it moving! ear protection is a must!
haha yeah I just sometimes get to zelouse with it and over do it, that's why I went with the hammer and dolly method haha
Brent that front end view is so bad ass. Love it, Craig
Thanks dude!

Thanks dude, I hear it's a hard deal for you folks to make anything cool out your way.
Yes I would have it, this rod is way cool
It's rolling art like thunder in the night, it's got curves like an aching heart would love ,it's as tough as nails like an old Apache chief,
I always enjoy your projects,I love old trucks the mostly.
Great job and the fenders turned out good 👍👍🇨🇱
Thanks man!
She's coming along great!
Thanks man, you got any projects on the go?

Haha seen you one for sale little new I'm taking it :)
The front view of the Pontiac is awesome. Great job on the bodywork!
Thanks man!
More great work Brent! Those fenders turned out great! You are right - sure didn't notice all the little issues until you got after them and took the paint off - but man does she look good now! Impressive
Yeah that's usually the problem just staring at something all the time you don't notice the little things haha
Knew that them finders was a mess but also knew you'd pull it off It sounds pretty much like my shop now with me hammering on this 66T Bird
haha they were bad but didnt' think that bad
Damn! You got those fenders looking great
Do it the way you want. You have brought us a long way and I like what I see. As you have said it is a driver.👍🇺🇸🤙😃

This one is turning out amazing just like all the the rest.
Thanks man!
Nice work I haven't seen nobody helping you
Nah I work better alone with stuff like this cause I usually don't' know what I'm doing so I'm not going to tell other people what to do haha
Well done
I am impressed that you took on such a challenge . Thanks for saving another great treasure. 😎👍
Thanks for checking it out man!
That was a cool trick welding that patch and cutting it to fit , never thought of that, thanks for sharing, the music of choice is usually pretty good too , you probably make that too

Nice job looking forward to seeing more 👍from uk.
Amazing, very nice.
I'm guessing work hardened stress cracks on the front fenders .It's amazing how double crowned "real steel" works out so well .A fine job... well done Brent.
Thanks dude!
I like the way you worked your patches. I just finished up patching in some sections on my Jeep Fender today as well. Cheers!
Thanks man, as long as I can get behind the panel to pull the extra steel it's always worked for me :)
If only it was as easy as you make it look! Great job car looks tough already....
haha it's relatively easy just have to keep plugging away.
I've been watching, this is my first comment. So far I enjoy this build. I've never done this extensive body work, but I like your approach! This ole' Pontiac is going to be a beast! ...Newk from Kentucky
Thanks man, yeah she should be fun if we are allowed to have any this summer haha
This car is cool looking. Nice work man.

Another great video👍👍
Looking great... love the channel
Thanks dude!
Front fenders are looking great, compaired to what they looked like when you started. A skim coat of filler and some sanding sould be ready to spray some primer and paint.
You bet that's the plan :)
Yes PAINT. Don't leave it in primer
looks good to me as well. high fill primer should take car of most of that for sure.
I know your not building a SHOW car. But to me cars left rusty look like rusty junkers to me. Dont know where you are going with this build but its fun watching. Its your car and your build. So far I like it.
Thanks man, usually I leave em rusty if it looks cool and if that was the case I would be driving it by now haha.
Looking good!
If anyone can fix it it's you! I'm sure it will come out looking great!
Thanks man!
That is "1" fine machine, like your "stye"! Great job on videos too.
Thanks dude!
She's lookin better every time I see her
Thanks dude!
So as a kid we owned a junk yard and there still was some prewar stuff in there when I was like 10yrs old all the b.o.p.c had cracks in the fender and quarters above the wheel arch
haha I think everything with bubble fenders has cracks in them, don't think the roads where very forgiving back in the day. :)
@@HalfassKustoms yeah I'm grandpa always thought it was something to do with deep draw stamping they had not perfected metal distribution
good tip on making the slapper i dont like smashing my knuckles
Ya little bit of filler some paint she’ll be mint remember back in the day they use to call them lead sleds when they used lead for filler lol there’s a guy on you tube all he uses is a hammer and dolly he’s really good he popped a little dent right in the front top corner fender of a square body left the fender on not sure how he got in there to do it couldn’t tell that there was a dent there lol don’t think there’s a right or wrong way as long as your popping the dent out haha can’t wait to c it in paint man nice 🤙
Thanks man!
Cómo siempre...me encanta el trabajo del metal....te felicito!!!
That car has a cool face.
Looks good. Think the holes under the head lights are from after market single lights. For your slapped seen some made with a file to shrink the metal.
yeah gotta be some kinda light for sure, yeah seen that not sure how fast that would work though I'm about efficiency haha
Bro ever tryed lead loading .I tryed way back never got it right .I just used to get big ingots of lead on the shop floor ha ha ps I used to use anouther trick where the metal starts planning .is to heat it up with a torch untill it's chery red .then slam a wet rag on it .and shrink it .hope I haven't bored you to much lol. pls Stay safe god bless lots of love from over the pond from the Victorian workshop
Tried and haven't succeed very well with it either also would be to time consuming haha
Man, I can't wait to start learning how to weld. Hope I do well.
that this is really looking sinister cant wait to see the the Finnished car
Yeah getting close should be able to get alot done this weekend I hope.
Just found your channel and hit subscribe. I even like the music. What did you put behind the small holes you were filling? These old ears don't work so well. Thanks, now I've got some catching up to do.
Beauty. How is Pablo doing in these troubled times?
haha He's more bummed with the weather as he's to muddy to let in the house most of the time right now haha
looking good so far , what size wire were you using 023 ? I found it funny in a way when you said you made your slapper from an old leaf spring , because I have one in my tool box also , I believe I used the bottom leaf on an old Falcon spring , small world Frank Travaglio
You bet man .23 for the sheetmetal.
Hey that's looking great! Now you've got more work to do, haa! Is that a low rpm grinder/polisher you use to strip the rust? Keep it up! You inspire me to go to the shop every night.
you bet, works good for this and has better power than anything air powered I have.
Nice bumping & grinding. That front shot at the end looks good. I don't know your plans on color or colors, maybe silver fenders with grey body?
I'm still on my brown kick haha gonna be some kinda brown yet :)
