- This is the combined video from the eight part CA DMV videos. If you want a CA motorcycle license without going to school, you'll need to take the written test and this driving test. The written test is for a motorcycle permit. With a permit, you can drive during daylight hours by yourself and then take this skills test (driving test) within a year of the written test.

This is it? You should see the test we have to do in Europe. involves full throttle , at the end hard stoppie, figure of eights. 10 task you have to memorize, and no foot downs, as it is an automatic fail of test. Then if u do the test. You go to the second test witch is a 45 minute city ride and instructor and examiner behind you with a car. But it was super fun for me.
The best thing to do, or I should say two things for passing is take the safety training course, which can be pricey here in California. Or do what I did. Everyday after work I rode down to the DMV after work. I did the whole rotation over and over. About ten times. Do it till you get sick of it. trust me. I got better till I was not messing up anymore. Did it for two months. My test is in two days. I am ready...I think. Be calm. Remember that failing the test will not end your life nor will the world end. I do not even think you will have to do any jail time. just keep it simple and do what you know. As of Q4, 2023, in the state of California, after every failed, and subsequently failed Motorcycle field test, you must pick a new gender. You cannot choose the gender you had previously.
i did mine in ca i did the serpentine and first two circles and the instructor told me ok your done i thought i hit a cone or something she said you had both your wheels in between the lines the entire time i have never seen that you obviously know how to ride congrads

hi guys if you think that's tough have a look at the UK test, especially the hazard avoidance part, bids available on you tube.
As I recall, if you haven't taken the class c written test in the past year, you will have to take it again plus the written test for a motorcycle. This will allow you to ride at by yourself (no passengers on your bike) and ride only during the day for one year. To me the class c written test is so easy it doesn't make much difference if you already have a class c license or not. The motorcycle written test is tricky, so study before you take it. There are a lot of them on TH-cam. And the skills test takes a lot of practice. If you don't have a place to practice on pavement, there's a high probability you won't pass it. Most of the DMV testers are pretty tough. You go outside the line by a half inch and you fail. I hear some are not too tough, but I never came across any nice ones.
does anyone know the dimensions of the circle, they tell you how far apart the cones are bot say nothing about the circle or paralell lines
There seems to be some confusion out there about what vehicles are allowable for the CA test. Is anything that CA classifies as a "motor driven cycle" acceptable? Such as a 50cc scooter, for example? Thanks.
My advice is take it using a 150cc scooter. All they make you do is the serpentine and circle rides. I passed the first time no problem and all I did was go down 30 mins before the test and practice. I now have my class CM1.

California does not allow scooters for the skills test because you may drive with any class license.
@@jamram7825 that is not the case anymore. The laws have changed in california. Even a 50cc scooter requires an M class permit or an m1 license. Now if the bike has a side car you only need a class C . As long as the scooter has a plate and registration and proof of insurance, you can use it for your M1 motorcycle test. I did 1 year ago and niw have a CM1 license.
@@jamram7825 there are companies out there that rent out scooters fir the M1 test because its easier to pass the motorcycle skills test on a scooter and it earns you the same M1 motorcycle license and they only make you do the circle and serpentine rides.

NOTE: Cannot be used for a skills test pg 5
And on page 3
NOTE: A Motorized scooter may be driven with any class DL. A Motorized scooter may not be used to take a skills test.

I'd like to see someone do this on a full touring bike or on a trike. Since they are motorcycles, the test should allow you to ride any legal motorcycle on the test and the test should accommodate them.
Like I haven't taken my test because I'm not sure they will let me use a 1970 Honda C70 SuperCub for the test.. has no kill switch and only 72cc... but it legally requires an M1 to ride.
You have to take a written motorcycle test as well as skills test. The written test is much harder than a class C written test and the skills test is ridiculous. If you take a motorcycle class, both the written test and the skills test are included in the class. I used a 150cc scooter for the skills test but practiced every day for about a month.
What does doing any of this have to do with riding a motorcycle? This is all parking lot bullshit. How about a test on the open road?

Wow, they dont even notice that the riders head and eyes are looking down during the cone weave, and the circle. To make a PROPER turn and weave, the head AND eyes need to be up and looking ahead of the turn, looking down will make the bike slow down and drop, where you look is where the bike goes! *facepalm
The michigan test is easy. Sharp right turn, sharp left, u-turn, cone weave, emergency brake, and emergency swerve.

Im in seattle...i took the written one twice each spring so id ne legal...never once did i read the book..passed both times first time..then 3 years later said..i need to be legal..so i had to take BOTH written and physical test...passed the first time again....if you ride its just common sense and knowledge...its easy...but there are alot of riders out there that should never ever be on a bike..the weekend warriors are a big crowd i hate with a passion.
Thank you for video, I just failed first attempt and have second try in a few days. Bummer is my DMV only does 8am cold start tests in a cramped parking lot with cars coming and going. My peg and I hit the 2nd cone and automatic fail.

Hi a dmv employee told me I can't practice motorcycle at dmv motorcycle testing area during business hours, the way he said sounds like I can after business hours. But the gates will be closed after business hour. it's that true I can't practice at dmv?

So my understanding is that ONLY the front wheel needs to be inside the lines. The rear one can bi outside. I have an Africa Twin and is a big bike and long, so is hard to keep it inside the lines in the circle.

+BEAR 420 Thank you. In Idaho, a non commercial driver's license for people with privately owned vehicles, is a Class D license. Riders of motorcycles will have the motorcycle endorsement, designated by an "M". If all you had was a motorcycle for transportation, you'd need to apply for a Class M license. But this would not qualify you to drive a car. The Class M license permits you to ride trikes and conventional motorcycles.

We made a practice circle on some pavement using chalk. I practiced every day for almost a month. I still couldn't pass it on our practice course every try, but I did manage to pass at the DMV. My wife had to go to one of the CA m/c driving classes.

Safety class team Oregon all I asked was a one of the instructors to show me how he or she wanted me to ride the course they all said no and told me there wasn't enough room and there wasn't enough request I got tired of arguing with the City Department of Motor Vehicles on the called United States Senator's office Ron Wyden they referred me to the governor's office somebody got in touch with her. And now they're dying to meet me my name is Keith Syth my goal is to help others may be handicapped or not disabled to choose to ride a 3-wheel motorcycle trike and I think my voice has been heard thank God

If you have a place to practice and set up a DMV course, it's not too bad. Problem is DMV gives you one chance per visit, three chances total. One mistake and "try again" another day! :-)
it is a hard test to past I cheated on my test by using a 150 cc scooter instead of my normal 1100 cc bike
101southsideboy I passed it on the first try. I rented a new Honda 250cc and went down and took the test. Now, three months later, I am pretty sure that I could pass it on my Harley 1200T
Roger Buffington in agree 5 year later I am sure I could past the test today on my 1100 cc bike. but here in Illinois'( my home state ) it is recommended you use as small as bike possible.

the secret is to give a little throttle a couple times every second during the circles. don't brake at all.
If it is "street legal," then you can use it to take your test. My wife took her test on a 50 cc Honda Ruckus. I took my test on a 150 cc scooter. You'll need to show proof of insurance. Hope that helps.
