Putting your adjustable friction knots at the corner of the tarps as opposed to the stakes, you can adjust tension simply by reaching out slightly from under the tarp. You can see how this would be a big advantage in wet weather. Going to the stake to adjust will get you wet, adjusting simply by reaching your arms out to the corners of the tarp will keep you much dryer. I used to do it your way but experience changed that.

If you put the taut line hitch at the side of the tarp, you no longer need to bend over to make adjustments without losing any functionality in adjustments. A two-inch bowline knot at the peg end will easily grab a tent peg or wrap around a tree utilizing a toggle. An added benefit is all the knotting is already complete.

Just got my tarp with this easy set up and this video is perfect! How long was the piece of rope you used to create the prusik knot?

Hey that’s fantastic, about 12” I’d say. Loop comes out just less than 6” diameter

Good demo. Any particular reason you hang your tarp from the ridgeline rather than over top of it? I've seen it done both ways and I usually put it over the top but wondering your reasoning.
    Thanks
    Nate

very useful my son and I enjoy your videos! Question, we live in an area with ALOT of ticks that fall from the trees any advice or tricks to avoid them when camping under trees like this? thanks!

Thx for watching Erin, I personally haven’t had too much of an issue with ticks coming down off the trees.
I can create a video of setting up tarps without the use of trees, and that might solve it a bit :)

Pretty cool . Paracord sucks for tarp shelters though

Ya you’re right! Sags and stretches.
      But easy to film !
What do you use for cordage?

I've read that the reef knot isn't a great way to connect ropes that are floating free, though it is good cinched down around a rigid object such as around a tree or in shoelaces. I prefer the zeppelin bend. A little fiddler to tie, but much easier to untie after being loaded. And it will never work loose under lots of shaking....

Or a double fisherman’s knot, which is exceedingly secure. Although, the square/reef knot is very simple and effective.

I'm going to try these knots this Summer. Only 6 months until May Long Weekend. :(
