last fall...an ugly moment with my wife in the rain and our tarp and a badly tied knot... Now I sit at my desk and practice these knots a few times a day (co-workers are beginning to wonder...) You saved our marriage.
My 11 year old daughter is now an Evenk Hitch tying animal. In a world so full of useless crap, thank you for taking the time to create content that actually teaches and has meaning.
Holy smokes!! Been backpacking since 1988 and doing tree work with ropes and all since 2005. I had never heard of doing that double loop on the truckers hitch to make an autoblock. Also never heard of that knot you showed with the fingers and the loops around the two fingers. Xander, you bring a lot of humility to the Canadian bushtuber cast of characters. It’s refreshing! Thank you sir!
Right on my friend! glad you got something out of the video! Aye, the Evenk Hitch is a wonderful quick release, My brother was using the Canadian Jam knot for years before I showed him the Evenk the other day. Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed your comment, It means alot! :D
Got to have watched this 20 odd times, love it. Def gonna be using atleast three. I've seen many videos before I stumbled on this one and hands down your way of showing the knots 🪢 has allowed me to remember them. Especially the gun sign. Awesome. All the best from the UK 🇬🇧 👍
I just sat in my living room and practiced theses knots for my upcoming camping trip with my spouse. I’m a visual learner and this was amazing and you took your time and did it multiple times. Thank you. I think my kayak will finally be attached to my car bumper too lol.
Outstanding. Thankyou very much indeed. I'm just beginning to wild camp in Surrey in the south east of England and every knot will be part of my skills. Thanks again.
Watching your videos in chronological order and loved this one! Confused why it only has 96k views and your others go from 500k to 2MM views. Guess people just want to be entertained and not actually go out camping? Your filming from the beginning is the best on TH-cam and I appreciate all the back and forth you are having to do to get the shots for us, that's a LOT of triple trips! Anyway, loving your videos and thank you for sharing part of your life with us!
The third nought was really tricky It help me to fix my flower pots in my gallery other wise I was thinking how to fix it... thanku to shear these all techniques with ous thy all are very helpful 👍👍👍
I stumbled on your channel randomly and have since fallen into a hole of bushcraft TH-cam. This is an awesome video for someone like me with no experience but who wants to start exploring and experiencing nature. Thanks for sharing and excited to follow along on future adventures.
Was gonna go on my first overnight camping trip today until it started raining, I'm glad I got to learn some new knots before I went out there and winged it
Doing be afraid to embrace the suck. Sometimes the rain is fun. But if it's your first trip I dont blame you :p yah my friend 2 or 3 knots will go a longgg way
I meant if you start the running end over the half hitches, you should finish by wrapping over. Or, if you start the running end under the half hitches, its important to end under otherwise you get a larks head which doesn't provide as much friction. It still works pretty well if you start over and finish under or vice versa. Either way, I appreciate you Xander. Love your content, love your personality. Happy memorial weekend to you and everyone on the channel.
X-man - Thank you so very much for this video! I am attempting my first overnight on the A.T. in a hammock and have tried to learn this knots. Your video is the most easiest to understand. I bought some little gadgets to help me, but they are so confusing. Oh, and I am glad you had additional rope!
I have a two nighter hammock camping trip on Monday. I was gonna try and find some knots to practice tomorrow and here you come out of the blue and save the day! This was invaluable! Love the content!
This video is great, and the knots are super easy. Even learnt a trick to the Trucker's Hitch (pass it through the loop twice) to keep tension. Thank you!
Thanks so much! I'm becoming obsessed with knots lately (part of a larger bushcraft/wild camping obsession) and this video is a great starting point! PS "forests are chaotic" - no truer words have ever been spoken!
Mate, I was thinking the other night that you should make a knot video .. and here we are. Love your videos, I find watching them to be therapeutic 🙏🏽 keep it up!
Never thought I would be interested in knots but now I am! Thank you for this very informative video, I think I have now learned the Evenk Hitch and Taut Line! Can't wait to try these in the field.
Im not too sure if you know this but nice little trick I did in the auzzie military when sleeping under tarps. At one of the tie off points you'll have a dangling string tied off with a tiny stick and with the issued canteens (because the mouthpiece was so narrow ) you will fed the stick into the bottle and you can let it hang there while it rains and collects water! Especially as it builds weight it will pull on that corner pulling in more tension and water flow into your bottle. In a decent down pour you bottle will be filled in a few hours! Just be careful because the stick can sometimes break and spill your precious water on the ground!
Great short knot video man! A video on a little bit of your story would be cool. At least how you got started with these bushcraft camping and canoeing trips and however much more you wanted to share. I know you’ve mentioned becoming recently several months sober. How you initially learned your fundamental skills? A video on your gear would be cool too.
Nice knots. Its great to learn a few new ones, like Evenk (new to me). I just went camping with some friends and tried to show them a few useful camping knots (taut line vs magnus... hmmm still not sure which one I prefer). Anyhow, obviously I was boring them. I suppose any knot nut has experienced this. Most of my friends couldn't tie a square knot to save their lives. Thanks - great presentation and enthusiasm!
Man your videos are really encouraging me to go out and camp by myself one day. And I beleive these videos will help people to know what are the essentials to camp. Keep the amazing work up man.
These are absolutely fantastic! Thanks a lot man, I've been too lazy to learn proper techniques and just tie everything in knots that are impossible to undo hahaha. Can't wait to become efficient with these 5 knots as they are incredibly effective and simple.
I’ve started getting into camping to just get away from life. And it’s been chaotic most times so this has helped a lot, thanks for putting the effort into this video and putting so much into your editing of your other videos. Much love from Scotland !!!
You nailed that! I learned a couple things. That evenk hitch is crazy fast! I always use a single prusik hitch to put guy lines on tarps, it's just tidy. Single or double prusik hitch works to attach the tarp to the ridge line as well.
Practicing these right now. Not sure what knot I normally use, but it is not very versatile. I am going on a camp trip in October with the family (my daughter requested another camp trip for her birthday...her name is Zandra!) and want to try to hang a tarp tent. Thank you for this video!!
Well explained! Instead of the Evenk hitch I use a bowline knot with a toggle for a quick release, but the prusik and the taut-line are a must. Cheers from Spain!
This has become my “go to” video regarding knots. Xander (great name by the way), you explain very well! I can’t imagine how you got 5 thumbs down. Bravo to you (I’ve watched all your videos, some I LMAO).
Great video! Wish I had watched this before my camping trip last weekend. It was tautline hitches everywhere because that's pretty much the only hitch I know well.
Evenk hitch kinda just blew my mind, i always keep a bowline at the end of my ridgeline and use it for a marlinspike hitch with a twig or tent peg, but the evenk mighta just pulled into the lead position for me
After watching a number of episodes, this is the best so far regarding tarp knots on TH-cam.

That's awesome to hear thanks for sharing :)
I have always set the loop knot in the middle of the prussik as the loop knot is the weakest part of the loop.

Agreed; I've never seen anyone add that double loop to the trucker's hitch creating the autoblock: nice touch.
Corporal’s Corner (Shawn Kelly) has been showing it for years in his videos
@@broadheadcapital7711 the same knots?
@@brucewayne2091 the double loop to the trucker’s hitch
DUde! I have looked at tons of videos on knots. And I never learn any in the end. This is the one, I can feel it.
Practice them at home!
This is one of the very best knot-tying videos you will find on You Tube.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Young Man, you are a natural teacher!
This was extremely valuable.
Thanks.
Knots have always been confusing to me. Thank you for your clear and patient explanation. Always learn something from your content. Thanks
this is hooonestly the most useful five knots for tarps thanks a lot
and the way you did the forth one is amazing
Bro - more 'how-to' short videos like this, please! That's the best way of doing an evenk hitch I've seen.
Probably the best, most understandable explanation of knot tying I've ever seen. Well done, thank you!
One of the best camping knot videos I've seen!
Great video. Am a big fan of when you briefly highlight the knots and hitches you use during the camping videos. Cool touch.
great video, my hammock tarp didn’t have any instructions but you’ve shown all the different ways for me to set it up! thank you!

Watched this video for last 2 years every morning so
much benefit from it thanks ❤
Hi Xander! My girlfriend broke up with me a while ago, but your videos are giving me this calmness I need. Thank you for everything. Take care
Hey brother. Keep strong and don't stop working on yourself 💪 Cheers my friend
Went out and used a tarp for camping for the first time using Xander and these knots for my inspiration!
One of the best Videos out there I´ve seen about Knots! Thank you so much Xander!!!
Outstanding. Thankyou very much indeed. I'm just beginning to wild camp in Surrey in the south east of England and every knot will be part of my skills. Thanks again.
I knew those 5 knots and still you manage to learn a simpler way of making two of them. Great work!
I watched your videos which inspired me to decided to go camping alone for the first time! These techniques are very useful!! thanks for sharing them!
Glad to hear. Make sure to practice at home

Went to work back through every one of your old videos... Reached the end and now rewatching everything all over again! Absolutely love them 👏
Ohh man that's amazing!!! Glad you enjoy them so much!!
I like the truckers hitch as it just uses a series of simple knots I already know.
This is awesome. I've seen a lot of youtubers teach knots but I've never seen them put into context like this
Right on glad you got something out of it :)
Never stop uploading! 🥰

One of the best patterns. Caught so many schooler stripers with it

@@XanderBudnick Will do! Thanks man!
Now that you've checked this out knots will be every other topic just like everything else.
For Evenk hitch, if you do a double loop on your fingers, it stays on much better ;)
Happy camping!
Huh I'll need to try that ty
This video is great, and the knots are super easy. Even learnt a trick to the Trucker's Hitch (pass it through the loop twice) to keep tension. Thank you!

Xander, fantastic Video. You chose 5 very useful knots and explained them very well.
Great job!
Thx! I haven't camped in over 30 years. But this skill can come in handy for picnics as well 😁
Mate, I was thinking the other night that you should make a knot video .. and here we are.
Love your videos, I find watching them to be therapeutic 🙏🏽 keep it up!
I read your mind 🧙♂️
Would love a list of all your gear that you bring on each camp. Also how you pack your bag 😂
Second this
in the snake island video he added a big list of a lot of his gear in the description! :)
Agreed!

Nice! I've always liked watching you tie those knots. They're neat, and I never even knew they existed before watching your videos. Big thanks, bro!

Thank you for your clear instructions!! Super super helpful. Kudos to your camera person too!
Learned a new knots today... thank you, Xander
Great knots Xander. Prusik knot line should be a slightly small diameter to grip the line. Thanks 👍. Watching Arborists tie knots it's almost magical.
I've had zero issues using the same diameter line for my prusik knots but fair enough and good to know.
Great stuff. I have been into knots a couple years, seen videos and have a 100 page book, that evenk hitch is new to me. Love it.
Totally awesome Xander - many thanks for this knot tutorial - very helpful
Extremely useful !! I do a lots of motocamping and i tight my tent and tarp with a stupid knot
Love the double roll on the truckers hitch. Super useful tip!
Aye its definitely a handy one
I am literally knot impressed. (That is, I'm impressed by these knots.) 👍🏻😁
lol good one :p

Thank you for learning me this new skills! Learned it from this video and now I am ready to use them! Thank you Xander!
I learned the evenk hitch from your video and now use it all the time when camping and wonder how did I manage to get by before.
This is a well-done and informative little course in basic camping knots! Nice job indeed and thanks!
Your videos are motivating , passion is there & it’s encouraging us. It’s great to see these videos .
All the best Xander!
learned in school in scout camp 🙏😊
Thanks for tutorial 🙏 revision class!
Tho we need to learn these skills in surgery too 😊 knots and sutures 😊
Already used the evenk hitch but your approach to it is so much faster, thanks for showing!
Been watching this video before I go into the woods for a couple years now, a great instructional video and refresher each time! Thanks :)
Good video! Everyone has their favorite knots. I like the Midshipman, bowline and Ashley bend.
Brilliant Xander. You even make tying knots fascinating and entertaining 🙂🌟
Thanks Paddy, I appreciate it, and I find knots fascinating and entertaining so that shouldn't be hard :ppp
Me, in the kitchen using a lace and a bottle learning how to tie a knot hahahaha me encanta este vídeo super practico Congrats bro 🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾
Right on man that's the way to do it!!
Thanks Xander. I used this video today to tie down a tarp!
Right on :)
You nailed that! I learned a couple things. That evenk hitch is crazy fast! I always use a single prusik hitch to put guy lines on tarps, it's just tidy. Single or double prusik hitch works to attach the tarp to the ridge line as well.

Thank you again for replying to my previous comment and suggesting this!!! It is amazing!!
been making those knots for decades without knowing their names! but i make all of them quick release
Well done. Nicely explained and presented!
Good lesson here. Hail the King Xander!!
That was quick! Very useful knots I will use this summer. Nice video
Don't forget to practice them at home
Xander always droping gems! Thank you for this!
my pleasure :D
Great video! Wish I had watched this before my camping trip last weekend. It was tautline hitches everywhere because that's pretty much the only hitch I know well.
Probably the best one to know imo :p
You're an absolute legend! I asked for this on the last video.....and BOOM here it is :O
I wish I had been comment 420, but 421 will have to do. Canoeing, bushcrafting, overlanding, and now teaching. Thanks for the lesson Xander.
Thank you so much!!! I was waiting for this content! You are great Xander, thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad too see the subscribers are flying up you deserve it mate 👏
Thanks Brother it's been wild
This is great. I really enjoy your videos Xander! Greetings from South Africa
Thanks my friend. Cheers from Canada
Thanks for taking the time to do this video!
I like the event hitch… always did a quick bowline. This is a nice alternative
Evenk hitch kinda just blew my mind, i always keep a bowline at the end of my ridgeline and use it for a marlinspike hitch with a twig or tent peg, but the evenk mighta just pulled into the lead position for me
Great Refresher for me, thanks a lot for sharing!
I have watched many knots videos but this one is the best! congrets
Glad it didn't for yah :)
Thank you Xander - I learnt these knots from you and practicing everyday so I dont forget :)
concise, excellent video - thank you!
Dude I was legit looking for knot videos yesterday because I wanted to go camping like you do
Glad I could help! Amazing my friend!
