I don't get the logic with Maguire. If you want to get rid of Maguire because of his ridicilious wages, why would you then draw the option to extend these stupid wages for another year if you can't sell him this year. If United can't sell Maguire this year they won't be able to sell him next year either. And then he will still leave for nothing after that second year. If you don't extend the contract, you'll save something like 15 million.
I think we got a 25m offer for him last summer. If he’s in the final year you probably get a lot lower offers.
To replace him would probably cost 25-30mln transfer fee and maybe 5mln a year in wages. I think his salary is 10mln per year. It’s a debatable extension but on a whole I’d guess it’s the right move of your either keeping or letting him go

I can't see Man Utd extending Maguire beyond 2025, given they didn't extend Varane. If United brings in De Ligt, there would be no reason whatsoever to keep Maguire.

I disagree with your take on ugarte being as crap as casimiro if played as a lone 6, ugarte has the legs and engine to play as a lone six, he defends the channels well and mainoo doesnt mind getting stuck in defensively either, in my opinion ugarte out of all the 6's weve been linked to offers us the chance to play differently i.e 433 and 4231, also he would free mainoo up to dazzle going forward! Bruno doesnt mind getting stuck in either so its a very strong midfield

Ugarte, De Ligt, Mazraoui, Fofana should be doable without counting on making any crazy unrealistic sales. And that would give EtH plenty of options and cover for all positions in midfield and defense.
If we sell Sancho we would also need to sign another winger ofc.
Much prefer Zubimendi to Ugarte. Not convinced that we need an out and out destroyer. Look at Casemiro for example - even when he could move he wasn’t great at progressing the ball, better than McTom but that’s a low bar.
Progressing the ball wasn't his job though. Make no mistake. A prime Casemiro this year would have made a world of difference

Anyone saying Maguire is a good fourth choice option doesn’t understand football and were probably the same ones moaning about style of play last season. Ten Hag wants to play a defensive high line which Maguire can’t play so claiming he would be a fourth choice option is ridiculous.
He also isn't a better option than Lindelof. Lindelof faster, more aware, and just as good at passing from back. We would have Yoro, Fish and possibly De Ligt as other "tall aerial options". Need to ensure we have nimble options too.

@@corriedebeer799 and that’s the problem he has no ambition and is just interested in the money. If United buy De Ligt and he stays, bar another horrendous year with injuries Maguire will be fifth choice CB behind Martinez, Yoro, De Ligt and Evans.
@@nigelmccarthy2651 it would be better for him if he goes to a mid-table team and plays a lot this coming season, but it looks like he would rather warm the bench and retire next season. The less he plays this coming season the worse his deal will be when he sods off next season

How about focusing on the tour games and the expectations for the season.
500 million spent in 2 years.
A lot of average players signed, just one or two are OK.
Clearly high wage average players need to be sold to allow additional signings.
ETH has spent everything he had to spend.
Hopefully with the coaching changes we will see a more attacking, a more cup final like United this season after 11 defeats, a negative goal difference and just 58 goals scored last season.
There is a lot of room for improvement.
There are several promising young players on the tour.
It's getting boring for United really. We're in serious trouble and I don't see any success this season unfortunately
