Who watches carefully knows that Magath didn't see Eldians as "devils" as anyone saw them since the beginning. He always gave them a chance to speak, he listened to their thoughts, he allowed them to have fun and celebrate, and he joined Reiner just for Gabi and Falco instead of attacking the island after being strategically ready. He never joined the "Eldians are devils. They deserve to die" thing, he was just unable to state it because he was a commander. And he ended up saying that he wanted these kids to live a long happy life. The fact that he died with the "wings of freedom" symbol on him makes the scene even sadder for me. He didn't care about what he's been forced to do his whole life. He freed himself by accepting that he wanted those children, whom the world sees as demons, to live a happy life more than anything. Likewise, Shadis... He was always a "bystander". Including the marriage of the woman he loved. He never thought he'd make what he saw as impossible. He was sure that he wasn't special. Seeing Annie with his students was what motivated him. He only wanted to feel special once in his life. But the sad thing for me is that no one knows his sacrifice. Even in his death, he was a "bystander" for everyone. Tragic... R.I.P LEGENDS.
THANK YOU! i keep saying this over and over again. everything you said, plus more. there are SO MANY little scenes throughout season 4, where you can see how much magath cares. in the end, he was way too hard on himself. he made their lives better (imagine another marleyan in command instead of him). he died wearing the wings of freedom. he died offering his heart. he died protecting his children. he died a hero. r.i.p magath. what a legend.
It hurts because at one point in our life, we, too, are bystanders. We know that feeling, too. Seeing Shadis like this made me happy that he gets to be the hero of the main story, even if the others wouldn't know how he died. Rest in peace Magath and Shadis. They both did well raising their students.

On the surface, it might seem they have experienced different realities, but at the end they felt the same emotions and they were both bystanders in the story. I remember back when I read this in the manga and it genuinely had me in tears but now seeing it animated it's just even worse. One of the saddest deaths in Attack on Titan for sure. I love these two :( just them accepting it and dying for their cause is just so emotional :( This sounds amazing though, good job once again Samuel Kim!

Y'all realise Keith was the first ever Scout we saw in this series? The first ever OP started with this guy slicing a Titan's nape. Mad respect for the ex Scouts Commander and also to General Magath. True Soldiers until the very end.
The conversation of Magath and Willy in episode 6 still hits me. Magath, a Marleyan, was the one concerned for Eldians' lives in Liberio, while Willy, an Eldian, willingly spilled their blood.
Thats the beauty of this show. Its perspective on war and violence is so human. Like humans are flawed and we believe and do things that a lot of times are contradictory. Its good that he realized his wrongs in the end do and still accepted what he had done :). But among the racist, power hungry marleyan brass the warriors could of been in worst hands.
This moment for me, in my opinion, including the whole Falco's transformation and Floch"s charge was as best as it could have been. Ranks third in my list on TOP 3 SnK moments, the second being Erwin's charge and the first obviously, Reiner and Bertholt reveal :) This OST BUSSIN

I can’t believe there’s just 1 episode left for the end of the Final Season part 2. This was an amazing season and all the staff involved in it’s making giving their best. Can’t wait for episode 12, many revelations are gonna be made and the nostalgia will hit hard after seeing some scenes from this episode.
This episode shows how the world has changed. Those who were enemys are allies now and those who where supposed to be your friends turned into traitors. Both sides have reasons to be respected. The Yaegerists for saving the Eldians no matter what and to get their revenge and in the other hand Armin and the others who want to save the world and all the innocent people. Espacially Jeans feelings in the latest episodes before joining Hanjis plan showed in what dilemma they really were. And even a person like Floch who was fighting alongside his comrades til the end and dedicated his heart for the Eldia needs to be appreciated.

Underrated fact about Shadis. He was Scout Commander before Erwin, meaning that the great Commander Erwin Smith likely learned a lot from Shadis! Shadis has had more of an impact than any of us give him credit for.
The ending of the episode brought me to tears! Great descission to remove all audio and leave only the emotional soundtrack, during their death! Shadis and Magath trained the soldiers and warriors of Paradis and Marley! May they rest in peace💔
Keith died fully aware that no one would know of his sacrifice. No one was there to see him board the ship. He didn't care if he was forgotten, nor did he care that he wasn't 'special' by his own definition. Even if no one will ever know, Keith certainly was not a bystander.
This episode was tragic, even when I was screaming at the screen for MAPPA to go off on their animation. Killing former comrades, but knowing any hesitation could lead to the deaths of your friends or billions around the world. Both sides you can empathize with because of how well written this story is.
Totally! I thought the exact same thing especially in that one episode of season 3. He loved Carla like Snape loved Lily. He even said to Eren that he looked like his mother. Man, emotional damage.
This song hits different after re-watching his backstory in the Royal Government arc. A man who believed he was special and came upon the cruel realization that he wasn`t special all along. "I am but a bystander." He is a huge lesson and his smile as he is about to die a happy-sad reconciliation with the fact that there was nothing more to life than to see your legacy continue.

I really enjoyed Shadis's moment in this weeks episode. It was very apropo to his entire character ark as a "Bystander". In the end, no one will know of Shadis's sacrifice and how he helped save the world. He isn't a special person like Eren, Mikasa, Levi, etc. But he certainly made a difference and had a purpose in life. RIP to the OG Scout Commander and to teacher of the 104th Cadet Corps 😥
Theo is my favourite character by far this season. He certainly did bad things but once he understands that he is just following the path of revenge, stoped. He did understand he is turning his children to monsters, warriors for a war that they didn’t even be a part of. And yes, Theo saw all of them as his own children, worried about them, cared for them. He just needed to understand they don’t belong in those battlefields. And in the end, he sacrificed himself for their sake. He just had to see the other side of the coin, what they caused.

Keith is like the scary commander in your unit, but when you really know his story and what he did at the end of his life, you will have mad respect for this character.

I do not know it's one specific theme, but that part 0:48 -- 1:56 is very beautifull and more emotionnal than the "emotional damage" part, in my opinion. Deeper emotions, an in-between regret, and pride. Two old generations, that dedicated their life to destroy the other, and finnaly reunite in their last stand, to give an opportunity for the next generation to keep going forward. Very beautifull piece honnestly.
I love how I’m Magath’s memory, when he’s talking about how he wishes the kids didn’t have to do this, he sees Zeke even though Zeke is his enemy. Deep down, he always cared for him even through his betrayal.
There smirks along with this soundtrack really made this emotional. The soundtrack is so powerful. I loved shadis and then started to like magath. The ost along with the smirks and the lines they said was so heartbreaking
I have goosebumps 😭 what a mix of soundtrack with a great ending of shadis.. Bystander still one of my favorite episode.. I really wanted him to mention EREN and Grisha in his last speech..

This episode shows how the world has changed. Those who were enemys are allies now and those who where supposed to be your friends turned into traitors.
Both sides have reasons to be respected. The Yaegerists for saving the Eldians no matter what and to get their revenge and in the other hand Armin and the others who want to save the world and all the innocent people.
Espacially Jeans feelings in the latest episodes before joining Hanjis plan showed in what dilemma they really were. And even a person like Floch who was fighting alongside his comrades til the end and dedicated his heart for the Eldia needs to be appreciated.

Underrated fact about Shadis. He was Scout Commander before Erwin, meaning that the great Commander Erwin Smith likely learned a lot from Shadis! Shadis has had more of an impact than any of us give him credit for.

This episode was tragic, even when I was screaming at the screen for MAPPA to go off on their animation. Killing former comrades, but knowing any hesitation could lead to the deaths of your friends or billions around the world.

This song hits different after re-watching his backstory in the Royal Government arc. A man who believed he was special and came upon the cruel realization that he wasn`t special all along.
"I am but a bystander." He is a huge lesson and his smile as he is about to die a happy-sad reconciliation with the fact that there was nothing more to life than to see your legacy continue.

I really enjoyed Shadis's moment in this weeks episode. It was very apropo to his entire character ark as a "Bystander". In the end, no one will know of Shadis's sacrifice and how he helped save the world. He isn't a special person like Eren, Mikasa, Levi, etc. But he certainly made a difference and had a purpose in life. RIP to the OG Scout Commander and to teacher of the 104th Cadet Corps 😥

Theo is my favourite character by far this season. He certainly did bad things but once he understands that he is just following the path of revenge, stoped. He did understand he is turning his children to monsters, warriors for a war that they didn’t even be a part of. And yes, Theo saw all of them as his own children, worried about them, cared for them. He just needed to understand they don’t belong in those battlefields. And in the end, he sacrificed himself for their sake. He just had to see the other side of the coin, what they caused.
keith and magath are like long lost brothers...when I read the manga, I cried so much, even the manga had such a power over me and I couldnt bare to cry anymore, my throat hurts

This is seriously one of my new favorite episodes, but Theo and Keith’s sacrifice and the after credits scenes were brutal!!😭
Keith is like the scary commander in your unit, but when you really know his story and what he did at the end of his life, you will have mad respect for this character.
The actual scene and sacrifice gave me chills, it was so well animated, but damn this version hits even harder.
I like how they could both see kindred souls in each other, despite being on opposite sides of the conflict. A brilliant scene.

When you combine a very beautiful score, to a very beautiful scene and characters, you end up with something incredibly special.
I do not know it's one specific theme, but that part 0:48 -- 1:56 is very beautifull and more emotionnal than the "emotional damage" part, in my opinion. Deeper emotions, an in-between regret, and pride. Two old generations, that dedicated their life to destroy the other, and finnaly reunite in their last stand, to give an opportunity for the next generation to keep going forward.

I love how I’m Magath’s memory, when he’s talking about how he wishes the kids didn’t have to do this, he sees Zeke even though Zeke is his enemy. Deep down, he always cared for him even through his betrayal.
