    I started my Coach collection with an outlet piece. That piece held up soooo well. I later moved on to Coach retail pieces. There is a noticeable difference. I frequent the outlet to find retail pieces. If you can get a discount on the retail pieces, sometimes it is not that far off from outlet prices.

      How will I know which is which, meaning how can I tell if an item is 1941?

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hbyellowful great question! Some of the best ways to determine that an item is from the 1941 collection are (some items may have all of these characteristics, some may only have one or two): the 1941 symbol; 1941 zipper/pulls; the words "Genuine glovetanned pebble leather" or "Genuine glovetanned leather" stamped somewhere on the item; clochette; hang tags with thick hardware (some that say "1941"); light colored jacquard canvas interior; the numbers "1941" printed somewhere on item; thick, white cotton dust bag; thick, white, oversized price tag...

    Coach outlet doesn't use "left over leather", if it did it would be of the same quality. They sourse a total different leather for the outlet. Which like you said isn't as good as the boutique.

      The "original" Coach Outlet stores did carry discontinued bags back in the early 2000s, but that trend stopped when we could see a discernible difference in the quality of the bags when Outlet stores started popping up everywhere. The leather quality is different, and the bags don't look like the boutique quality as far as hardware and trim are concerned. I have only one factory purse, and it sticks out in my collection like a sore thumb. I don't shop at the factory outlet

    Thank you for the clarification, I have purchased Coach for many years and I did realize the couple of pieces I got from the outlet did not wear as well as my retail bags. My 1941Rogue is my favorite.

I just added a link to this video under my vid about factory vs retail so folks can get some updated info! I’m officially on vacay for the next two weeks straight and will be binge watching a bunch of different channels, including yours! Gotta get my #coach1941 fix in before heading back to work, lol. MFF and retail do use similar leathers - the polished pebbled, crossgrain and canvas are nearly identical between factory and New York retail bags. The cost savings is usually in the details - less hardware, cheaper hardware, non-matching or thinner edgecoat/glazing, lower quality zippers, less zippers and less internal pockets. It's especially noticeable if you compare similar styles like Charlie/Avenue, Prairie/Kelsey, Quinn/Sienna. Outside pockets are rare in MFF. Wallets are lined in canvas or crossgrain in MFF, where retail has soft calf leathers frequently.
    Coach has always had different levels/audiences within retail. 10 years ago it was Poppy (fabric and patent aimed at early Millenials), regular and Madison lines, which had nicer hardware and better interior layouts. And the Pinnacle items used exotic leathers and more hardware, similar to the 1941 line now.
    My first Coach bag was in 1999 (early Krakoff years when lined bags became more common. Although I admire the vintage bags, I need useful pockets. I stopped buying Coach during the Signature fabric years as I'm not into logos. I switched to Tignanello and Dooney for a while, and then Vera Bradley when my kids were little and sticky.
    Coach lured me back with the Legacy line. Classic, colorful bags, with great light-colored fabric linings. Then I drifted into and the Madison line - classy hardware and silky linings.
    Although I love that Vevers is taking the retail more high quality, he's lost me with his Western-inspired and flower-heavy aesthetic. I keep checking every time I get a PCE coupon, but the heavy detailing and lack of medium cross bodies has me not buying for now.

    This is a great video on Coach quality 😊 I got my first Coach bag in 2010 and that led me to the world of contemporary handbags. Before then I had only purchased a small D&B bag and much less expensive brands. I didn’t stick to Coach solely but over the past decade or so have owned A LOT of Coach. They have all come and gone though, because i change up my handbag collection usually once or twice a year. I don’t keep bags forever but that may change with my latest additions 😉 It was just this past summer when I discovered a newfound love for Coach and started building a new collection of them. I have purchased at least a dozen bags since summer - a couple MFF, some Coach 1941 and mostly Coach NY. I am loving all of them! Truly. Sometimes I want a bag that isn’t luxurious and can get tossed around without worry. That’s what the MFF bags are for. When I go to work I like to carry much nicer bags so out come the 1941 collection. And for general everyday or weekend use I like my Coach NY bags 🥰 Coach quality is amazing for sure and the styles are pretty awesome too

    Whenever I go into the Coach outlets I always ask them where are their boutique bags at, they always have a few on the shelves, but their not marked as boutique bags, you either got to ask or know the serial numbers to tell. But I just got my 3rd boutique bag from the outlet, the prices are phenomenal as well! I love your video! Beautiful bags and very informative.

    You are right about the coach outlet and retail products. When I started buying coach again about 5-6 years ago, I could not get staff from either store to tell me what you have shared and what I learned from doing research. I was noticing a difference in outlet items, but did not know those bags were MADE FOR THE OUTLET. I remember specifically asking “when did y’all put this New York on the bags?” My initial coach purchases were in the 1990s and early 2000s, so probably 1941. I do purchase all of coach if it is something that I like. They hold up well because I change them out pretty often. Thanks for sharing your experience and info!

    I stopped buying Coach when I noticed a cheap knock off of my Minetta bag at the outlet that was cheaply made with crossgrain leather. Mine was beautiful soft pebble leather from a Coach retail store. Thought they were ruining their brand by making inferior bags for outlet. Moved to Dooney, primarily Florentine. Recently decided to buy some 1941 figuring it was a different category that is not made for outlet. If I see a bag made for outlet and I absolutely love it, I will get it but won't make a big investment in outlet products. I am in love with the Clarkson Hobo, but don't know if it is an Outlet bag since it is on Coach Reserve section, but it didn't come with a dust bag. Thanks for sharing so many videos on TH-cam.

    Speaking as a guy who buys briefcases, I 2000% Agree about Coach's 1941 Collection being on par with LV, Gucci, etc. In fact, in some cases, ever better! Only a couple of brands (Tom Ford, Berluti, Saint Laurent) I would SLIGHTLY put ahead of 1941 collection, but not by much!

    Thanks for doing this video. A lot of people must have been asking you (myself included before). Truly helpful! I had watched a video you did before on the rogues and how they all have different leather even if they are all glovetanned. Some are softer, others stiffer. Is that just because of wear? I.e. more worn bags will have softer leather, less worn stiffer leather? Or is it because they are made differently somehow? The pebbles glovetanned vs the interior smooth glovetanned are very different in terms of softness. I wish all the glovetanned are as soft as the ones they use for interiors. Thanks and hope your weekend has been awesome!

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! Sometimes softness is due to wear and handling, since glovetanned leather gets softer and softer with age/use. However, it's not just wear. Batches of leather will differ in texture and feel because of the way that they have been tumbled during production. As a result, most products will not be/feel exactly alike. Some will simply be a little softer (or more firm), have a more exaggerated (or finer) pebble, etc. than others from the get go.
      Hope your weekend was amazing, also! And thank you for watching and commenting!

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @divapriscilla
    @divapriscilla 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Outlet absolutely does not have the same quality. However, I purchase my small accessory items from them; wristlets, charms, card holders, etc, items I know won't have great wear and tear. I do have 3 recent handbag purchases. I bought the Mia shoulder bag two months ago and the pebbled leather is already flattening out. I don't care because it's my daily bag that gets beat up. I wanted a Parker but since I have 2 Cassie's I couldn't justify buying it so I got the outlet Cassidy. It's only for evenings out so minimal wear and tear, works for it's purpose. I bought a reversable tote to use daily. Didn't come with accessories wristlets but other than that, it's been taking a beating as I use it as my daily work bag. In no way do the outlet bags come close to the retail items, but they still serve a purpose. I don't have a 1941 item yet, hope to add one to my collection. Wow, this response was a lot longer than I thought it would be. 😄

      I agree, slgs and charms are perfectly fine from the outlet. That pebbling falling out isn't great, though.👀

    How can you tell the difference between 1941 and Coach New York?

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question!

    So the rogues are different from retail stores I know rogues are not in retail anymore but I seen some on the outlet site

    I also think of Tory Burch. I don’t think Kate spade is even close to the quality of coach esp the 1941. I’m a Chanel.. Louis Vuitton.. Chloe... etc collector and the coach 1941 is hands down some of the best quality. I bought the snakeskin rogue 25 and wow! Just plain wow! Craftsmanship is hands down some of the best I’ve seen. Their glazing puts lv to shame and I own way more lv than I do coach at this point. I’ve just rediscovered coach. I carry what I like regardless of price or brand. Right now I’m carrying my rogue 25 ♥️ great video

      Thank you for commenting! I love hearing what those who collect luxury brands think of Coach. Sounds like you have an amazing collection!
      And that Whipstitch snakeskin Rogue is INCREDIBLE! Definitely one of my favorites.

      I went to tory burch outlet a couple of times and the quality of the outlet bags are not great. I bought a tory burch bag from bloomingdale's on sale and the quality is alot better

    Yeah, the Coach quality is insane. IN-SANE. Definitely up there with the luxury houses, yet a fraction of the price! At times I feel crazy for even looking at high end luxury brand because you can get something just as great for much cheaper.

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the very reason I don't purchase high end/luxury bags.

    I only purchase bags from the retail line but will buy from the Coach retail store, the retail section of the outlet and resale. I miss browsing the outlet for retail bags so much right now, it is like a treasure hunt. I find resellers that list outlet line of bags higher priced than selling for in the outlet with a very high “retail” price to be very distasteful and misleading. I love both your dreamer and that rogue (it’s the one I want the most). Also the whipstitch cardholder. The men’s outlet has way cooler slgs IMO, my outlet slgs are all from the men’s shop.

    What about the coach handbags sold in Macy’s, and other department stores? What quality is that.

    • @CoachCraze
      @CoachCraze  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most of those are Coach New York, so excellent quality. A few 1941 products are sold by department stores, also.

    Ms. Lady your bags are beautiful but I look at your site and some of the purses that you demonstrate are located at the Coach Factory because I myself have pursed some of the same purses that you have. So I don’t understand why you say the leather is different from retail when it looks like some of your purses are located at the outlet, just saying coach purses are simply beautiful at the outlet or retail store. Again your bags are lovely 😊

      Retail bags are clearanced out at the outlet, that is why you can find them there from time to time. Made for outlet merchandise are not the same quality leather not to say they are not good. I had bags that lasted 10+ yrs from the outlet.

      I mean coach outfit carry flagship items in a small section of the store and I do mean a small section depends on what they get in from the truck and can be purchased from the outlet for a heavy cheaper discount so something like they discontinued it from the retail/flagship store etc but it depends I look and listen to some TH-camrs about retail vs outlet and it’s definitely a different in materials but sometimes you can get lucky and get retail from outlet store and sometime if you Ask the salesperson where is your retail/flagship items located at sometimes they are in the back

    I don't buy outlet bags because of the hardware. You could have a nice leather bag but if it's got cheap imitation gold hardware, it ruins the style.

    People stop being so snobbie it's the same coach, but, they have to cut some corners so that they can mass-produce these items.
