    Being Black, I thought I would feel out of place in a Latin country such as Panama. Well, I was completely surprised to find out Panama is actually an Afro-majority country very *VERY* similar to Jamaica! I've been to both, and the cultures and vibes are almost identical.

      That’s what I was telling my Uber driver (a woman) the other day.

      Panama is a marvelous place where nobody feels out of place.

      @@guillermogouldburn763 True that. I've also been to the Costa Rica border areas and it seemed so different to Panama there. The people were more "Mestizo" looking like Mexicans or Argentinians, and it was more of a traditional Latin country from the looks of it. Panama on the other hand is more Afro-Caribbean in culture, more reminiscent of Jamaica, Haiti, or the Dominican Republic!

      @@Nutty151 Panama's culture has been influenced by the thousands of Jamaicans who came over to build the Panama Canal at the turn of last century.

      @@guillermogouldburn763 Yes. Reggae in Spanish was created in Panama right? With singers such as El General and Renato with songs like "Chica de los ojos cafes".

    Being a frequent visitor to Panama, I'd say this is a comprehensive summary of the best things to see in do in Panama City. You're correct that most people don't know anything more about Panama than the Canal. For those who have never been, this is a great recap of the top things. Along with your other videos, you've done a lot to make more people interested in visiting this wonderful country. Thanks, Sly!

    Anybody planning on going to the canal should not go before reading about its fascinating history, the engineering that makes it work, and what it means to world commerce. It's so much more important than other more famous and hyped tourist attractions in the world.

    • @Nutty151
      @Nutty151 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. The importance of the canal in international commerce and former military use cannot be understated. I wonder what will happen with the planned Mexican canal though?

    dude, I just saw the part of your coffee tour where you mentioned being from Seattle.
    I wish I had found your vlog 3 weeks earlier, because I would have joined you over in Boquete. I am Seattle born and raised myself, and living just on the other side of the volcano in Volcan.
    if you're staying in country for a bit we should totally hang out.

    Awesome video! We are in the city for a month & so far are loving it. Thanks for the tip on the San Blas islands, we weren’t sure how to go or if it’s possible without a car so we will look into that! Also had no idea about the Chorillo tours - we probably won’t do that but super interesting. Weve been learning about it’s history & present story this week 🇵🇦

    You might also go to Gamboa and get a guide to go birdwatching on Pipeline road or to go fishing for Peacock Bass (they call them sargento) in the man- made Gatun lake. The fish is very tasty!

    Not sure if you went to Taboga, The island was discovered in the 16th century and was originally named Isla de San Pedro by the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa.[1] Its current name derives from an Indian word aboga ("many fish"). The island's first settlers were Indian slaves from Venezuela and Nicaragua. The small town of San Pedro was founded in 1524 by Hernando de Luque, dean of the Panama cathedral. The town church of the same name is claimed to be the second-oldest church in the hemisphere. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), the first Catholic saint of the Americas, may have been born on the island
