Ask yourself, if the whole of Ireland was a unified republic, what would you do with it then Einstein? You’d be blockaded and bombed back into the Stone Age that’s what.
It's incredible that this actually happened and this film did a great job covering the whole operation, the book is absolutely brilliant too. Many little details documented that couldn't be included in this short film because it would be 4 hours long. I did like the prospective from the officers and their point of view. Glad I watched this.

It was set as it played out in real time within history as it is factual for the most part. The hunger strikes happened just before 38 IRA escaped Long Kesh.
Can anyone tell me how the pistols were brought in? I fell asleep half way through. Upon resuming play to the point when weapons were brandished, I had no idea how. If someone could explain, I'd be most grateful. Lastly, is this a true story?

At the time of the escape all four wings in each Block had the same denomination in them i.e. IRA/Republican, this was a major factor in the success of the escape. It was recommended afterwards that each H Block be split into different factions to avoid a repeat, so half the Block was one faction i.e. Republicans in A & B wings & the other side C & D wings were Loyalist prisoners.
my last comment on this the 2 guys in the yard talking about breaking out. "...we need to prove to the world we still have a pulse?" deep breath , his mate (pronounced in these films as 'Mayte') and every other actor from Belfast Town (they pronounce it 'Toyne') gets in closer and says " whats on your mind, you dont mean an escape surely? (spoken in a dramatic sudden change to a deep tone). This isnt realistic or dramatic its forced and tacky as a Belfast person my advice is focus on the amazing story, not the accents of poshlads acting like lads. Dont force it. This story hasnt been done right yet in movie form.
why does every single sentence have to be spoken so dramatically? its not real, it annoys me. "we can show the world ( emphasis on 'the world') that we can do (....deep breath....) this...its not real. a simple sentence like "maybe we can do this".... becomes (whispered voice, spoken like the actor has just jumped off a treadmill, "maybe....(looks down.... deep breath , then pauses..."maybe......"then lifts head to make eye contact...."maybe we can do this"..... gazes off to the ceiling....(end of scene).
ATLmodK here, well it is a dramatic story! I think that more dramatic speeches, and very dramatic acting was more popular at the time this was done, but I take your point, that’s probably not how the original H block residents would have spoken. Thanks for the comment. It
