Coming out of high school I was undecided between becoming a doctor or an engineer. Im happy to report that I became an engineer! I love my job and came out making $60k/yr with zero student loans. Three years later and I cleared $100k/yr. Three yeaes after that $130k/yr. Now at 31 I own three rental properties and made a total of $190k last year in a super low cost of living city. I have a company truck, full benefits, and amazing 401k matching plan. All that sounds great and all but the real happiness comes in that I only work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. I get to enjoy life with my family. As a doctor I dont think I would have had this work/life balance.
It depend of what the doctor want to do with his time, you can work half time as a doctor maybe 30-36 hours a week or even more 40-48 h week a yoy can live a good life with that salary, but "the greed break the bag", I have knew some people that did about 80 hours a week even more some times only for get more money, I guess some people make theirself eslaves for money, and I guess happen in all the world

I am currently enrolled in medical school right now. I told myself that I wouldn't let money deter my decision to become a doctor because I know that eventually I will be earning high figures. FrnchFriez Remember why you started. It’s very easy to get caught up in the comparing game. Don’t compare yourself, your time will come, will you get through school, residency and so on. Life goes on no matter what happens around us and just because you’re still in school does not mean your life is at a complete halt.

people keep shying away from discussions around being a doctor and money... but its important just as you demonstrated here we are working for several years below minimum wage. that hasnt even touched base with how much of that salary is going to pay student debt and the rising costs of living. more and more doctors are leaving medicine ever since the start of the pandemic to find alternative and more rewarding work. this is definately a straw on the camels back. all healthcare workers deserve better.
Average residents don’t work 80 hours. That’s the ACGME cap. Even in general surgery the average hours are less than 80 if you look at the whole year with alot of rotations being more chill than others. In internal medicine we work a lot more than other programs but even then we hover around 70 hours max.
@@IbrahimShah 70-80 hrs is the average for everyone I know in gen surg. Non-surg specialties are more like 60. The only residents I've met doing 40 hours are psychiatry folks.
Can someone please tell me why residents do not go on strike to earn more money?? For the amount of money they earn and the work they have already put in during medical school I think they should receive at least $100k/year. But of course the big hospital CEOs wouldn't want that would they?

Most people in my family or my friends entered this field not because of the pay, but because of family background or life changing even that happened to them. My grandparents are both doctors, and so are my aunt and uncle. My cousin, when he's a little kid, a book of anatomy can calm him down. He can indulge himself in that book for hours! My friend went to a medical school because of his mom was dying from cancer.

Same here. But Our living cost is low. So $1000/month is a big chunk of money. It's enough. only $250 expenses with a comfortable life. After becoming a specialist $15000 per month.

Doctor or any other professions, it's not for the money. I'm want to study medicine, not for the money, but for the tasks and where a new day isn't the same.
I am not straight out of high school I have been out for 2 years and have only taken one class I am now trying to get my life on the best path for the future since my mom was recently diagnosed with cancer she will live but still it has been a huge wake up call that after she is gone or even my dad someone has to be there for my family I was on the fence about becoming a surgeon ever since I was 13 I was discouraged bet the number of year it would take and the amount of debt but a few of your videos( and a fortune teller in new Orleans ) have finally helped me make this decision in the first step to the rest of my life as an adult so my question is what are some of the first steps I should take in the process of becoming a surgeon and how to balance work and school ?
Hi, That's a good question. I actually sat on the admissions board at Georgetown while in med school and learned a quite bit about applying, etc. Lately, most med schools have started to like students with non bio/non chem degrees. But, major in something that you enjoy learning about. If it's not bio or chem, then do the pre-reqs additionally. If you want to major in music, then do that. And then just do the pre-reqs for med school. That will be perfectly fine. If you are past this point, (I'm not sure how far along you are) disregard this. To be competitive, I would say a 3.5/3.6+ and most important is MCAT (500+) As far as extracurricular, just find something you enjoy doing. If this is volunteering at a school, then do that. If it's working with humane society, then do that. Just don't do something just because it will look good on paper. What will make you stand out: 1. A good MCAT score 2. Volunteer work at a hospital or hospital job (scribe, tech, nurse) 3. Real world experience (if medicine will be your second career. For example, you were a teacher for 5 years before applying) 4. Letters of recommendation from mentors, professors, physicians 5. Any unusual things you have done (medical mission trip to Africa, worked as a teacher for teach for America, tutored students in school, did research for 2 years before applying) I hope this helps. Kids love TH-cam. There are a lot of good anatomy videos on TH-cam and he can even watch real surgeries. Foster in him an interest in his science classes. Chemistry is the big deterrent for many kids as it is very confusing and unlike anything else they do in school. I had literally no idea what was going on in my high school chemistry classes and I’m surprised i even passed. If he can make it through that and follow along with the material and understand it at least a little bit then everything else will come easy to him and he will likely enjoy it. Wish i had some good books to recommend but i don’t. A good place for him to start is learning a lot about the cell (which he has likely already been introduced too) and how important it really is. And i guess lastly, don’t push it! If he wants to back off, let him. He has to chose to want to learn about this stuff because otherwise he’ll grow to hate it. The fact that you are taking an initiative to foster his interests is very telling and likely means ur a great dad, so i wouldn’t be surprised if you already know about or do this stuff. I too a doctor in India (in government sector) i just wanted to share what I got as salary to world 1-As an intern- INR 7500/ month (approx 100$/month) total 1200 US $ anually As resident MD- INR 55000/month (approx 720$/month) total 8640 US $ anually (now deduct 15% Tax) left with 7344 $ anually

Absolutely do NOT get into medicine, any field, (but especially physician) for the money. Consider -- if you're willing to work a minimum of 80 hours per week -- that you'd be making overtime for 40 of those hours as that security guard (so you'd get paid for 100 hours each week. That's ~ 1400 per week. 1400x52 weeks = $72,800/year. That's $73k per year, now, without mountains of debt associated with training. Of course you won't be able to work 80 hours per week most places, but it demonstrates that the dollars in medicine, early on, will not grant you any happiness. You better be prepared to find happiness in your work, not your lavish lifestyle. In the words of the great poet, DJ Khaled, "A man ought not play himself, for the man who doth is unwise."
What? That doesn't make sense at all. The field of medicine is one of the most well paying. You do 3 years of residency in internal medicine during which ofcourse you won't be making much because you're getting trained. After that you can become a hospitalist and earn 200-250K a year.

That is _after_ you've largely been out of an upwardly mobile segment of the workforce during 4 years of undergrad and completely out of the workforce during 4 years of med school. This of course is during a time that compound interest works against your favor for 4+4+3 years on debt worth more than the average mortgage in the US. This makes your debt a liability, and a massive one at that. Basically, if you're trying to build a mountain, would you rather dig a hole for well over a decade and then start building from down there or begin building immediately? Lastly, this is mostly about happiness. Med school and res are ridiculously challenging. Then, once you're done, life as a physician remains challenging... for the rest of time. Yes, money can afford you _kind of_ a lavish lifestyle (you're no billionaire), but it cannot comfort you from the dregs of the human experience nor can it create the kind of satisfaction that comes from performing a task that enriches you on a spiritual, mental, intellectual, and emotional level. I say again, _do not_ go into medicine for the money.

Compare this to someone who wants become a lawyer, 4 years of undergrad plus 3 years of law school and then a starting salary of 75K and approx 100-150K of debt. Compare that lawyer In ten years and 90% are making less than half of what physicians make. Also I'm guessing you're not a physician yourself. I'm in residency right now and if someone is so worried about student loans and 'power of compound interest' you can do what I did. Go outside the US for med school right out of high school. Then apply for residency. I have zero loans at 26 years of age and will be making 200K plus at the age of 28. So yes you can absolutely go into it for the money considering obv you enjoy the field itself and are sincere to the profession and your patients.

I hope you realize that for the vast majority of students, myself included, moving to another country out of high school is simply impractical. Further, the vast majority of graduating high schoolers will lack any semblance of certainty that they will have the kind of sincere faith in profession and dedication to patients -- that you and I agree are essential for a physician -- years down the road. High schoolers are staring a new chapter of life in the face; few will have the resolve required to move to another country, the foresight to do so in order to avoid debt, and the wherewithal to even begin implementing such a endeavor. Yes, the US education system needs revamping. Since it is the most expeditious means to enter medicine in the US, however, students will find themselves subject to its whims and financial burdens. Given this essentially inescapable fact, I must advise against going into medicine for the money. If all one wants is money, there are far less complicated ways of making it rich. You are fortunate to have gone through an alternate route and to have succeeded on that route. That's great. But that is just not an accessible pathway for most students in the US. If it were, schools in the US would be far cheaper, as the demand for their services would be nil until they could compete with schools that charge nothing or very little, like the school you attended.
You're contradicting your own points. First you said doctors don't make good money since residency and college takes too long and you're in too much debt. Then you said Money doesn't buy you happiness (which is kind of obvious). Since you're still a med student and have such a bleak view of this field let me give you more reassurance in hopes that you will proceed to resident life with more optimism. We don't work "a minimum of 80 hours per week"... It's barely even 70. We enjoy what we do and we enjoy the money and the 'lavish lifestyle' that comes with it. Both things go hand in hand. As per going out of country, it might not be possibly for everyone but it is an option for a lot of people. You will notice this once you enter residency, as many of my colleagues did the same. It's common sense that money should never be the driving force in anything, and yes you can make easy money by doing a lot of other things like winninh a fortnite tournament and making 5 million dollars. They'll always be easy ways to make money. The point of this video is to answer the question "do doctor make really good money?" the answer is yes. A lot of money. Should that be the driving force? Ofcourse not.
Their are a plethora of associate degrees that make over 55k a year, up to 88k a year. For 2 years of school... Watch Dave Ramsey, dig yourself out. There is a difference between broke and poor. 80k in California is bare minimum to own a house, and you have to be very smart with money. The debt incurred from med school can be astronomically high, and idiots don't think about it, because they get sold the high living doctor salary but never told the costs. You can come out of med school with very reasonable debt and pay it off completely during residency years. America has a ton of opportunities, from military to schooling that is very widely available. Community colleges that are a tiny fraction of the cost of universities but move you so much farther ahead. Choosing a stupid major or degree is what screws people over and not having a plan. What are you doing to get yourself more money and living better? The facts show that "the system" isn't against you, you have so many chances of changing your life. So are you going to?
I’m making 15$ an hour before taxes as a mental health tech, but it would be 12$ if it weren’t for the shift difference pay. While I live fine off this now i can tell that this will be difficult to live off of in Residency. Surely residents deserve better pay than this, even if they are newbies.
@@jarvisaddison8560 depending on the state you work in, you can start working independently in 2nd and 3rd year (moonlighting) if your residency program allows. I used to work 2 weekends a month and double my monthly salary from just that. Finally started having some freedom

My ex was interviewing for jobs when we were dating. She was being wined and dined by hospitals in several different states after finishing her fellowship. Minimum salary being offered was 350k. Max was 650k. I even made the decision as to where we were going to move. She told me I wouldn’t have to work if I didn’t want to. I still ended up dumping her ass for having severe OCD which she projected on to me. She was impossible to live with. Money isn’t everything. I told her to go kick rocks and so I chose happiness. Not everyone is in my situation, I simply did not want to be a controlled slave. Not having to ever have to work came at too big of a price for me.
Money isn’t a factor of why I want to go into medicine but it’s still something I think about because without money you can operate in life. Medicine is something you have to be dedicated to do due to the long and irregular atmospheres that you will experience.

Faraz Hussain my cousin did med school in Dominican republic and he went back to US and never got accepted for residency he tried for 1-2 years and he quit by then and fell into depression for some time
yes u can get PG but u have to score high like 240+ in USMLE step 1 and then pass USMLE step 2 ck and cs. Publish some research paper too then u have fair chances for residency match.
As a DPM we make a little more on average at our Residency programs. Which is interesting to me in comparison to DO/MD who may have to have a longer residency. Ours is only 3 years PYG.
I started college in August 2017 with the goal of becoming a PA and specializing in Pediatric Oncology. I chose this after watching how hard the oncologists worked to help my fiancee's little sister at the Texas Medical Center over the summer. I thought what they did was so amazing and I really wanted to be one of them. After taking Anatomy and Physiology during my first semester, I began to change my mind and started debating whether or not to go into Orthopedic Surgery. While Pediatric Oncology is incredible noble, I have a physical connection to Orthopedics having torn my patellar tendon and meniscus. It was my Anatomy professor who sat down with me and really helped me weigh my options and figure out which direction I want to go in. I had no idea how much Orthopedic Surgeons make until I came across this channel, and I didn't really care about how much they make. It's a cool incentive but my main focus is to help others to not be in the pain that I've been in for over a year.
I was thinking about forensic pathology but I'm not sure if I want to spend almost 20 years in school. Not completely sure if that's something I'd actually like in practice.

But going to med school is just not worth it these days, you’re gonna end up with 300k in debt and earn only $50,000-70,000 for the first few years of your career working 60hr/week. Not to mention professions like NP and PA who are replacing pcp doctors. If your only goal is to help people then be a nurse, emt, NP, PA or CAA. Doctor is the worst medical job

Most non surgical fields pay less than 300 a year. You gotta own businesses if you want to make money in medicine otherwise you’re just paying off student debt for the years to come

In France, it takes between 8 to 12 years after high school to graduate, depending on your specialty, and it costs 400 euros at the beginning of each year in subscription fees. You start earning minimum wage around your 4-5th year while alternating externship and classes, getting more on you internship past 6th year. You won't be paid as much as you after those 15 years though, which is probably part of the reason why it's actually free to go to the hospitals with just your medicare card. 2 different systems with 2 different outcomes I guess!
Fun fact: it's actually less than $13 per hour if you take into account that you would most likely (as it is the law in most places) get paid overtime for anything over 40 at a minimum of 1.5. So it's closer to $10.50 and hour!

When I was a resident, I was taking home about 30-35k a year. Had to live pay check to pay check for a little while, while supporting and wife and kid. It’s worth it though. Chilling now
I knew an individual in the central valley who made money authorizing loans to residents who wanted to supplement their income. Unfortunately he said this was mainly used to buy fancy cars and live a lavish life.
I earned a math PhD and continue to work hard every day doing math research in differential algebra because I want to help everybody and save the world and make massive contributions towards humanity & animals. I SHOULD get paid much more. Right now I earn $852/month or at little over $10,000/yr, since 2003.
If you want to be a physician, but want to make a six figure salary immediately after residency then join one of the armed forces FAP program. The Financial Assistance Program (FAP) pays doctors in residency a lump sum of $45,000/yr plus an additional $2,000/month. The catch is you have to serve in the military for every year you receive the benefits. This is still a lot better than being broke for 3-8 years after med school. Join the FAP and go from broke medical student to $120,000/yr immediately after med school.
I made under 50k in my first year as a resident, but luckily my daddy paid for my education 😇 I hate my patients they are such assholes everyday but I love making money and I know one day I'll be having bills raining 🌧 down on me.

Residency in indian college will give you just 500to700 dollars per month .......my dad give me 500 dollars for pocket money.......so i think us is little better any way.
same her that’s what I’ll be one day. What i’m majoring in next year is bio premed then i’ll continue on to med school. your undergrad major doesn’t matter that much honestly. There ‘a people that majored in film and ended up in med school. I wouldn’t recommend that only because there will be lots of test that you’ll need to do to get into some med schools. So my answer is major in something like bio, chem, bio-chem, or nursing. It’ll pay off in med school only because you’ll have experience on what you’ll be learning and you’ll also be prepared. If you think you might want to do something else take a minor like I myself.
I have a freind that's an MD. I couldnt believe what she told me about residency. The hours worked and the sleep deprivation are rediculous no matter what it pays. Thanks for what you do, Drs.
On the first day of med school, our professor told us that don't come in this profession for money. There are way more other relatively easy ways to earn money with less efforts and skills... Yes, you will earn a lot but for your children bcoz it takes your youth to become a doctor and by the time you start earning well you'll be in your 30s.

In my country, a resident earn around 350$ a month, and a specialist physician 1200$ per months (family med does not require residency and are paid 750$).

For surgeons it’s like that most the time. Other fields we work 40-60 a week. Sometimes less. When your on clinic rotations you just work 8-5 sometimes less so it’s not alllll bad

I have a company truck, full benefits, and amazing 401k matching plan. All that sounds great and all but the real happiness comes in that I only work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. I get to enjoy life with my family. As a doctor I dont think I would have had this work/life balance.

It depend of what the doctor want to do with his time, you can work half time as a doctor maybe 30-36 hours a week or even more 40-48 h week a yoy can live a good life with that salary, but "the greed break the bag", I have knew some people that did about 80 hours a week even more some times only for get more money, I guess some people make theirself eslaves for money, and I guess happen in all the world

I am currently enrolled in medical school right now. I told myself that I wouldn't let money deter my decision to become a doctor because I know that eventually I will be earning high figures. FrnchFriez Remember why you started. It’s very easy to get caught up in the comparing game. Don’t compare yourself, your time will come, will you get through school, residency and so on. Life goes on no matter what happens around us and just because you’re still in school does not mean your life is at a complete halt.

people keep shying away from discussions around being a doctor and money... but its important just as you demonstrated here we are working for several years below minimum wage. that hasnt even touched base with how much of that salary is going to pay student debt and the rising costs of living. more and more doctors are leaving medicine ever since the start of the pandemic to find alternative and more rewarding work. this is definately a straw on the camels back. all healthcare workers deserve better.

Average residents don’t work 80 hours. That’s the ACGME cap. Even in general surgery the average hours are less than 80 if you look at the whole year with alot of rotations being more chill than others. In internal medicine we work a lot more than other programs but even then we hover around 70 hours max.

Most people in my family or my friends entered this field not because of the pay, but because of family background or life changing even that happened to them. My grandparents are both doctors, and so are my aunt and uncle. My cousin, when he's a little kid, a book of anatomy can calm him down. He can indulge himself in that book for hours! My friend went to a medical school because of his mom was dying from cancer.

Doctor or any other professions, it's not for the money. I'm want to study medicine, not for the money, but for the tasks and where a new day isn't the same.
I am not straight out of high school I have been out for 2 years and have only taken one class I am now trying to get my life on the best path for the future since my mom was recently diagnosed with cancer she will live but still it has been a huge wake up call that after she is gone or even my dad someone has to be there for my family I was on the fence about becoming a surgeon ever since I was 13 I was discouraged bet the number of year it would take and the amount of debt but a few of your videos( and a fortune teller in new Orleans ) have finally helped me make this decision in the first step to the rest of my life as an adult so my question is what are some of the first steps I should take in the process of becoming a surgeon and how to balance work and school ?

That's a good question. I actually sat on the admissions board at Georgetown while in med school and learned a quite bit about applying, etc. Lately, most med schools have started to like students with non bio/non chem degrees. But, major in something that you enjoy learning about. If it's not bio or chem, then do the pre-reqs additionally. If you want to major in music, then do that. And then just do the pre-reqs for med school. That will be perfectly fine. If you are past this point, (I'm not sure how far along you are) disregard this.
To be competitive, I would say a 3.5/3.6+ and most important is MCAT (500+) As far as extracurricular, just find something you enjoy doing. If this is volunteering at a school, then do that. If it's working with humane society, then do that. Just don't do something just because it will look good on paper.
What will make you stand out:
1. A good MCAT score
2. Volunteer work at a hospital or hospital job (scribe, tech, nurse)
3. Real world experience (if medicine will be your second career. For example, you were a teacher for 5 years before applying)
4. Letters of recommendation from mentors, professors, physicians
5. Any unusual things you have done (medical mission trip to Africa, worked as a teacher for teach for America, tutored students in school, did research for 2 years before applying)

Kids love TH-cam. There are a lot of good anatomy videos on TH-cam and he can even watch real surgeries. Foster in him an interest in his science classes. Chemistry is the big deterrent for many kids as it is very confusing and unlike anything else they do in school. I had literally no idea what was going on in my high school chemistry classes and I’m surprised i even passed. If he can make it through that and follow along with the material and understand it at least a little bit then everything else will come easy to him and he will likely enjoy it. Wish i had some good books to recommend but i don’t. A good place for him to start is learning a lot about the cell (which he has likely already been introduced too) and how important it really is. And i guess lastly, don’t push it! If he wants to back off, let him. He has to chose to want to learn about this stuff because otherwise he’ll grow to hate it. The fact that you are taking an initiative to foster his interests is very telling and likely means ur a great dad, so i wouldn’t be surprised if you already know about or do this stuff. Just thought I’d share my 2 cents. Good luck to you and your son!

As resident MD- INR 55000/month (approx 720$/month) total 8640 US $ anually (now deduct 15% Tax) left with 7344 $ anually

Absolutely do NOT get into medicine, any field, (but especially physician) for the money. Consider -- if you're willing to work a minimum of 80 hours per week -- that you'd be making overtime for 40 of those hours as that security guard (so you'd get paid for 100 hours each week. That's ~ 1400 per week. 1400x52 weeks = $72,800/year. That's $73k per year, now, without mountains of debt associated with training. Of course you won't be able to work 80 hours per week most places, but it demonstrates that the dollars in medicine, early on, will not grant you any happiness. You better be prepared to find happiness in your work, not your lavish lifestyle.
In the words of the great poet, DJ Khaled, "A man ought not play himself, for the man who doth is unwise."
What? That doesn't make sense at all. The field of medicine is one of the most well paying. You do 3 years of residency in internal medicine during which ofcourse you won't be making much because you're getting trained. After that you can become a hospitalist and earn 200-250K a year.

That is _after_ you've largely been out of an upwardly mobile segment of the workforce during 4 years of undergrad and completely out of the workforce during 4 years of med school. This of course is during a time that compound interest works against your favor for 4+4+3 years on debt worth more than the average mortgage in the US. This makes your debt a liability, and a massive one at that.
Basically, if you're trying to build a mountain, would you rather dig a hole for well over a decade and then start building from down there or begin building immediately?
Lastly, this is mostly about happiness. Med school and res are ridiculously challenging. Then, once you're done, life as a physician remains challenging... for the rest of time. Yes, money can afford you _kind of_ a lavish lifestyle (you're no billionaire), but it cannot comfort you from the dregs of the human experience nor can it create the kind of satisfaction that comes from performing a task that enriches you on a spiritual, mental, intellectual, and emotional level.
I say again, _do not_ go into medicine for the money.

Compare this to someone who wants become a lawyer, 4 years of undergrad plus 3 years of law school and then a starting salary of 75K and approx 100-150K of debt. Compare that lawyer In ten years and 90% are making less than half of what physicians make.
Also I'm guessing you're not a physician yourself. I'm in residency right now and if someone is so worried about student loans and 'power of compound interest' you can do what I did. Go outside the US for med school right out of high school. Then apply for residency. I have zero loans at 26 years of age and will be making 200K plus at the age of 28. So yes you can absolutely go into it for the money considering obv you enjoy the field itself and are sincere to the profession and your patients.

Yes, the US education system needs revamping. Since it is the most expeditious means to enter medicine in the US, however, students will find themselves subject to its whims and financial burdens. Given this essentially inescapable fact, I must advise against going into medicine for the money. If all one wants is money, there are far less complicated ways of making it rich.
You are fortunate to have gone through an alternate route and to have succeeded on that route. That's great. But that is just not an accessible pathway for most students in the US. If it were, schools in the US would be far cheaper, as the demand for their services would be nil until they could compete with schools that charge nothing or very little, like the school you attended.
You're contradicting your own points. First you said doctors don't make good money since residency and college takes too long and you're in too much debt. Then you said Money doesn't buy you happiness (which is kind of obvious). Since you're still a med student and have such a bleak view of this field let me give you more reassurance in hopes that you will proceed to resident life with more optimism. We don't work "a minimum of 80 hours per week"... It's barely even 70. We enjoy what we do and we enjoy the money and the 'lavish lifestyle' that comes with it. Both things go hand in hand. As per going out of country, it might not be possibly for everyone but it is an option for a lot of people. You will notice this once you enter residency, as many of my colleagues did the same. It's common sense that money should never be the driving force in anything, and yes you can make easy money by doing a lot of other things like winninh a fortnite tournament and making 5 million dollars. They'll always be easy ways to make money. The point of this video is to answer the question "do doctor make really good money?" the answer is yes. A lot of money. Should that be the driving force? Ofcourse not.
If you make approximately $50,000 a year you make roughly $24 before taxes. The average worker will work 2080 per year.

Their are a plethora of associate degrees that make over 55k a year, up to 88k a year. For 2 years of school... Watch Dave Ramsey, dig yourself out. There is a difference between broke and poor. 80k in California is bare minimum to own a house, and you have to be very smart with money. The debt incurred from med school can be astronomically high, and idiots don't think about it, because they get sold the high living doctor salary but never told the costs. You can come out of med school with very reasonable debt and pay it off completely during residency years. America has a ton of opportunities, from military to schooling that is very widely available. Community colleges that are a tiny fraction of the cost of universities but move you so much farther ahead. Choosing a stupid major or degree is what screws people over and not having a plan. What are you doing to get yourself more money and living better? The facts show that "the system" isn't against you, you have so many chances of changing your life. So are you going to?

In N.J., the minimum wage is 11 dollars an hour for 2020. However, by 2024 it will be 15 per hour.
My ex was interviewing for jobs when we were dating. She was being wined and dined by hospitals in several different states after finishing her fellowship. Minimum salary being offered was 350k. Max was 650k. I even made the decision as to where we were going to move. She told me I wouldn’t have to work if I didn’t want to. I still ended up dumping her ass for having severe OCD which she projected on to me. She was impossible to live with. Money isn’t everything. I told her to go kick rocks and so I chose happiness. Not everyone is in my situation, I simply did not want to be a controlled slave. Not having to ever have to work came at too big of a price for me.
Money isn’t a factor of why I want to go into medicine but it’s still something I think about because without money you can operate in life. Medicine is something you have to be dedicated to do due to the long and irregular atmospheres that you will experience.

yes u can get PG but u have to score high like 240+ in USMLE step 1 and then pass USMLE step 2 ck and cs. Publish some research paper too then u have fair chances for residency match.
As a DPM we make a little more on average at our Residency programs. Which is interesting to me in comparison to DO/MD who may have to have a longer residency. Ours is only 3 years PYG.

I started college in August 2017 with the goal of becoming a PA and specializing in Pediatric Oncology. I chose this after watching how hard the oncologists worked to help my fiancee's little sister at the Texas Medical Center over the summer. I thought what they did was so amazing and I really wanted to be one of them. After taking Anatomy and Physiology during my first semester, I began to change my mind and started debating whether or not to go into Orthopedic Surgery. While Pediatric Oncology is incredible noble, I have a physical connection to Orthopedics having torn my patellar tendon and meniscus. It was my Anatomy professor who sat down with me and really helped me weigh my options and figure out which direction I want to go in. I had no idea how much Orthopedic Surgeons make until I came across this channel, and I didn't really care about how much they make. It's a cool incentive but my main focus is to help others to not be in the pain that I've been in for over a year.
I was thinking about forensic pathology but I'm not sure if I want to spend almost 20 years in school. Not completely sure if that's something I'd actually like in practice.

In France, it takes between 8 to 12 years after high school to graduate, depending on your specialty, and it costs 400 euros at the beginning of each year in subscription fees. You start earning minimum wage around your 4-5th year while alternating externship and classes, getting more on you internship past 6th year.
You won't be paid as much as you after those 15 years though, which is probably part of the reason why it's actually free to go to the hospitals with just your medicare card. 2 different systems with 2 different outcomes I guess!
You earn in a year what we don't earn in 3 years here in india 😂😂
Fun fact: it's actually less than $13 per hour if you take into account that you would most likely (as it is the law in most places) get paid overtime for anything over 40 at a minimum of 1.5. So it's closer to $10.50 and hour!

When I was a resident, I was taking home about 30-35k a year. Had to live pay check to pay check for a little while, while supporting and wife and kid. It’s worth it though. Chilling now

I knew an individual in the central valley who made money authorizing loans to residents who wanted to supplement their income. Unfortunately he said this was mainly used to buy fancy cars and live a lavish life.

I earned a math PhD and continue to work hard every day doing math research in differential algebra because I want to help everybody and save the world and make massive contributions towards humanity & animals. I SHOULD get paid much more. Right now I earn $852/month or at little over $10,000/yr, since 2003.

No you don’t pay tuition. You only pay to apply for the programs. And the hospital pays you when you start your Residency.

If you want to be a physician, but want to make a six figure salary immediately after residency then join one of the armed forces FAP program. The Financial Assistance Program (FAP) pays doctors in residency a lump sum of $45,000/yr plus an additional $2,000/month. The catch is you have to serve in the military for every year you receive the benefits. This is still a lot better than being broke for 3-8 years after med school.
Join the FAP and go from broke medical student to $120,000/yr immediately after med school.

I made under 50k in my first year as a resident, but luckily my daddy paid for my education 😇 I hate my patients they are such assholes everyday but I love making money and I know one day I'll be having bills raining 🌧 down on me.

Residency in indian college will give you just 500to700 dollars per month .......my dad give me 500 dollars for pocket money.......so i think us is little better any way.

same her that’s what I’ll be one day. What i’m majoring in next year is bio premed then i’ll continue on to med school. your undergrad major doesn’t matter that much honestly. There ‘a people that majored in film and ended up in med school. I wouldn’t recommend that only because there will be lots of test that you’ll need to do to get into some med schools. So my answer is major in something like bio, chem, bio-chem, or nursing. It’ll pay off in med school only because you’ll have experience on what you’ll be learning and you’ll also be prepared. If you think you might want to do something else take a minor like I myself.
Any degree that provides a plan b if medicine doesn’t work out for you.
I have a freind that's an MD. I couldnt believe what she told me about residency. The hours worked and the sleep deprivation are rediculous no matter what it pays. Thanks for what you do, Drs.

On the first day of med school, our professor told us that don't come in this profession for money. There are way more other relatively easy ways to earn money with less efforts and skills... Yes, you will earn a lot but for your children bcoz it takes your youth to become a doctor and by the time you start earning well you'll be in your 30s.

In my country, a resident earn around 350$ a month, and a specialist physician 1200$ per months (family med does not require residency and are paid 750$).
I want to be a surgeon and one day I will have a medical campaign at my country I live in USA but I was born in Bangladesh and I came here when I was 10.
It is good that to not care about money as a medical student as there are a lot of other well paid jobs rather than medicine .. just care about your importance in other's life ... my thoughts about medicine 🤗

@@lolatheregularperson9194 yes , I'm an RN supervisor and I see those nurses that work 6 or 7 days a week and work 12 to 14 hour shifts just so their little turd kids at home blow all their money and never see their parents . I'm sure you're fine with your mom being gone all day everyday . You have to pass mcatz to be a doctor . Good luck with that one lol .
For surgeons it’s like that most the time. Other fields we work 40-60 a week. Sometimes less. When your on clinic rotations you just work 8-5 sometimes less so it’s not alllll bad
