@@derapospatz5164 precisely! Reward the good, point out the mistake or what's wrong.
If you don't reward the good, there's no incentive to do it again, nor do they realize what's good.
If you don't point out what's wrong, then they don't know what's incorrect. If you don't punish it, they won't know it's wrong. Some people consider being told they are wrong as outright persecution!

I recently ate out at a late lunch by myself, there was a family of four across the table and the father was beautifully involved in his two daughter’s lives. I had heard him imparting general and lifelong knowledge unto them throughout my time at this establishment. After I had finished eating, I stacked all of my plates to make the waitress’s job a bit more convenient and he used that opportunity to publicly call me out as an example. It was never a comment that was meant to be directed towards me, but when you direct your energy and thought towards others and for others, you can learn quite a bit. In that moment, I had gathered what it meant to be a great father. A silent, meaningful transaction between people.

This is what I use for my software engineering team I'm supporting as a lead.
It works indeed. I never saw people change so quickly, while feeling good about themselves for it.
I think the clue here is that most people don't get enough well meant compliments. So you calling it out in the moment, where there is sensory evidence that it exists and you understand the impact of, well.. you cannot dismiss reality when its in front of you. You're essentially forcing an alignment between two differing perspectives. Being aligned with others makes us feel more free, as it means we now have collaboration opportunities on top of the mastery we've displayed.
ergo.. complimenting people, no matter the age, on their ability to manipulate reality and you acknowledging the positive outcomes.. works!

This is absolutely true. I will never forget my 11th grade english teacher's to my response essay about death of a salesman. The prompt was some generic b.s. which he was better than asking for that easay and after like 12 hours of blankly staring at my monitor I had a psychological break and just went off on how much of a p.o.s. cliche the book is and how it's given way to much attention and how I just don't even give a sh** about the essay prompt so much that I don't care if he failed me for it.
I was the only person in the class to get a 100% on that essay. I was typically pretty quite in that class but when I did answer I was usually a bit snarky (he was a wise ass teacher so he enjoyed that type of banter) so my essay was a bit exteme and out of character. The fact he asked me to step out in the hallway the next day and make sure I was okay (bc it did read a bit like a manic break) was such a genuine gesture from a typically stereo type of a grumpy 60 year old teacher.
I also had his wife as a teacher in middle school - a class in which I punched another student in the face because 5 times in a row he smacked my head as he walked by within like 15 minutes. After class She flat out told me she was glad I stood up for myself and put him down. The kind of teachers that change students lives

@@Na_bruhYou can call it manipulation of you want, but you can't fake sincerity well. You have to be able to recognize genuity that they themselves already know about, and be willing to compliment them on it.
People hand out fake compliments for fake accomplishments all the time, do you feel good when that happens? "Congratulations, you were on time today!" You don't care.
