I did this exact mod to my 545i and i loved it too. Now I have the E61 550i wagon and I’m about to do it all again. Seeing this video reminded me of what to look forward to
If you eventually want it louder, I'd start with the 3rd resonator. Have a stainless steel y-pipe installed in its place, Magnaflow makes good quality stamped y-pipes. That'll get rid of that ugly box and make it look better. Your other options: delete that resonator box and run dual pipes back to the bumper. You might need to install an x-pipe where the box was to equalize the exhaust for better flow and sound but it'll sound really good. Last option, which is the most work and expense, but it'll look and sound the best: get an M5 bumper and add M5 dual exhaust. You'd cut off the 3rd resonator, add an x-pipe then run duals out to each side with dual tips, making the same quad exhaust the M5 has. It'll look and sound like the E39 M5.
Hey Mr. Carchives. I wanna say your beemer is the perfect sound I am looking for for my 2004 BMW 530i. I wanna ask what exhaust tips you used. Thanks. :)
That sounds really good. What surprised me the most was that it actually sounds similar to an Alfa Romeo 8C! (or Disco Volante & Maserati Gran Turismo)
Damn I'm sold. I'm just going to cut off the mufflers on a straight pipe section and buy a band clamp to re-install them when I want to. Did they cap the vacuum line to the muffler valve or leave it open? I'll be capping it where it runs into the engine bay when I find it. EDIT: I think the valve vacuum line runs to a solenoid in the trunk.
I’m in SC, just over the Catawba. let me tell you my experience with my 545i. MOST of the stock exhaust IS reusable: my exhaust guy (Tyler @ APS Muffler) pulled the stock tips and the stock vacuum flap (which sounds so f’ing sick btw at 2500rpm) and swapped them over to the now muffler-deleted exhaust for $50. Went back for a resonator delete for $50. the car is pretty damn good right now but i think i wanna go back and get the stock flap and tips deleted for bigger ones, install the K&N drop in air filter, then get the Dinan Stg 1 tune
Yea that's dope I'm going to get mine done this weekend now after watching this video. Did you ever go back and change the resonators or you stayed with this?
Thanks, I stayed with this setup because It sounds really good especially from the outside of the car. and its not too loud when cruising until you send it.
jdjdjdh hshshsh no. No l light problems at all. I was actually scared of that before getting it done but no lights came on. They told me if I took the cats off then a light would come on
slow super not really. In short, if the windows are up you can hear a slight deep rumble but to really hear it, you’ll have to roll down the window unless you’re pushing it. The car has a deeper rumble at idle and during acceleration but it’s not annoying loud inside the cabin. ..While cruising I can’t here the exhaust really unless I roll down the windows.
Was actually thinking to do the same with my car, just wondering would it say Emissions increased on the i drive.?? Or would it popup any check lights on the dash or on i drive??
Hey, No I didnt notice any performance issues. It actually felt like it had more power, but I could've been caught up in the nose but definitely didn't feel a lost.
I was afraid of the something at first. Honestly the only time its loud is at a cold start, or when you're flooring it. While cruising its a low hum and nice little rumble at idle if you have a V8.
I've had just the muffler delete with nice tips and sounded just right nice tone and. Its not exaggerated loud even tho you could get loud if you floor it. Loud when you want it to be and you won t wake up neighbors. I now have all 3 resonators removed now
It sounds a little deeper, but if you have the windows up , music on and driving normal you can barely tell. When you put your foot in it.. it's definitely loud.
Wow. The «professional» expecting 50 hp from an exhaust and NA tune. That’s dillusional.. And those valves are pressure controlled, not by sports modes or anything. Actually I think the stay closed during cold start, and below 3000 rpm driving or so, and open upon exhaust pressure when you hit it. This mod is all weight saving and that niiice sound. But still worth it though!
Sounds amazing man! Recently deleted my muffler but I want it to sound a little louder haha. I don’t know whether I should delete the first set of resonators or second. Thoughts?
Thank you! The owner of the shop told me if I wanted to make mine louder take off the first set of resonators. The two cylinder looking ones. So far the delete has been perfect for me.
William Huang actually the acceleration that day felt slightly better. I never dyno the car to know for sure but it felt a tad bit faster. I went with a 2.5 inch pipe and a 3inch tip .
@@carchives423 Nah I live in Norway lol, that's in Europe. However I know it's a ton of people who remove it and I don't think the authorities care tbh
Nice bottle neck set up.... The stock system has (2) 2.5” pipes and when they are combined to one pipe it is with a 4”plus pipe run! You put a single small pipe to the 4”. Probably lost some HP!!!

This was so freakin extremely informative for me. I have the same car and can’t wait to knock that muffler off.
I just got it done to my 545i after watching this video it sounds great not too loud or quiet
Nice!!! its the perfect medium. Thanks for watching!
That sounds really good. What surprised me the most was that it actually sounds similar to an Alfa Romeo 8C! (or Disco Volante & Maserati Gran Turismo)
Thank you! I just took a listen to the Alfa Romeo and it really does sound similar lol
What about deleting the resonators (the cylinders and the box) and KEEP the mufflers? How would be the tone??
I did this and it was very dull
Can you give me link for the exhaust muffler tips?

How are your valve stem seals holding up? Do you notice smoke coming out the exaust?
They are holding up good. That job was done right before I got the car. No smoke for me.
