  • 'Cuthbert' speaks out of the mists of a distant age. As a monk and hermit living on the Island of Farne, Cuthbert is one of England's greatest Christian Saints. Living alone in simplicity, he pursues the Ineffable Light of God. But can he overcome the evil one who seeks to hold him back?
    This epic new short film, shot over two days and edited over four months has been inspired by Saint Cuthbert's mystical story. It aims to depict the orthodox Christian vision afresh, touching upon the battles we all still face today.

    Lovely stuff. Most of your commenters seem to be Christian and want to comment on the religious value of the film. However I really think that this is enjoyable and thoughtful for the non-believing audience too, purely as a work of art. I hope you have further opportunities to complete projects like this.

    Great story! Nice work! I relate very much since I have moved from the city of millions to the mountain of a few thousand people. The aesthetic fight is real the spiritual battle is ever present but the Word of God wielded by the Holy Spirit conquers the lies the arrows of the principalities sent to distract,discourage and destroy the man or woman of God.
    Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, lord have mercy.

    Nice touch showing him eating onions. His military past is debated of course, but it certainly is a good device for telling his story. Great short film.
    The existential struggle depicted here was quite moving. Something I deal with as well. The endlessly repeating voices of doubt, questioning every decision I have ever made and every commitment and loyalty I have, foremost to Christ our God. The Jesus Prayer is incredibly powerful, as well as short phrases from the Psalms. The words act as a sword parrying away the attacks of the Enemy. I should start using the Breastplate of St. Patrick too. I’m sure Cuthbert must have known it.

    • @OliverMurrayYT
      @OliverMurrayYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. And great name btw! I entirely empathise with what you've written there and this story was very much a informed by those kinds of experiences and struggles from within my own life. I think he would've known the prayer, yes. So I'm using the anonymous "Life of Cuthbert" for my military source. But it is more allegorical than anything else. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    You wisely choose to focus on his inner spiritual struggle instead of his outer miraculous deeds. What's the story for the inspiration for your script? Did you have an insight into this struggle when visiting Lindisfarne?
    Alexander Clifford did an outstanding job as St. Cuthbert. What's the story of you finding him to play this part?
    Where did you find replicas of the distinctive pectoral cross and the gospel book of St. Cuthbert?

    • @OliverMurrayYT
      @OliverMurrayYT  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Bob! I'm going to make a video on the background of the project and the reasoning behind a lot of it very very soon. It took four months to put together so I just hope I can get a few people to see it first before that. As you know the channels pretty small.
      I felt so many elements naturally flow into one and other when I visited Lindisfarne last year and followed Cuthbert's steps, I was blown away. The concept just came together in my mind....the significance of what he means/meant to northern england and my own journey to faith (helped by this corner of the internet). He evangelised us once, I think he can do it again. I also think the era has such a Tolkienesque feel to it. Just so much seemed to collide within him and his story. Particularly as Bede writes that he battled evil on Farne island. I just thought...wow. Great. An ascetic on an island few are brave enough to sail to - the spiritual life today - and the trials we face when entering that life. Thank you for your comment on the performance, Alex is an old friend. And I picked up the props online, will be happy to drop you the links if you'd like. I know Cuthbert is your patron saint.

    • @OliverMurrayYT
      @OliverMurrayYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      And yes, I feel one can get an insight into his struggle when you visit Farne island (just off of Lindisfarne, where he lived an ascetic life). It is extremely solitary. There's something amiss there despite all the bird watching that goes on. It would be great to have ecclesial presence there again but I believe there's still no running water or electricity.

    • @ButterBobBriggs
      @ButterBobBriggs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Oliver Murray Don't worry about small, just put out content that you personally love, and the audience will eventually come. Look at Dr Allan Barton's channel. It was small for a while, and then it grew exponentially overnight. He puts up what interests him and because he loves it, that love comes through in interesting content. You have done the same and that's what matters.
      Don't plan too much what to do, instead put up content that interests you without worrying about what might interest the hypothetical audience.
      Behind the scenes stuff like how to make a short movie is interesting. Stories about the lives of saints and the places they lived are interesting, too. Bede is a treasure trove of ideas.
