I'm new to hobby only 5000 ltr pond 19 koi from 35 cm to 15 cm running a pump fed system using a tempest and a oasis vortec multibay consisting of brushes alfagrog and a k3 moving bed in end cost next to nothing and my water is crystal clear and parameters are fine just love the hobby enjoy your videos keep em coming
I wanted to fibre glass my pond but was a pricey deal 20 years ago so went for a box welded liner's, 5500G pond which will be 20 years old next summer and still going strong, actually glad i didn't go fibreglass because i doubt threes many of them about that are this old and not leaking.
Check out "The Pond Guru" videos here on TH-cam. He's the Nitration Process Master & He used to answer all my questions when I was building my filters. I made all 3 of my filters at home out of 50 gallon barrels & have been running them for 3 years without any issues on a 3,500 gallon, 7 foot deep pond. I've got Koi, White cloud mountain minnows, Bulllfrogs, Shubunkin Goldfish & Select Feeder Goldfish/Minnows that I rescued from the pet store. I've only had one fatality ever...and it was likely not my fault. You can do it all with the "DIY" method. Just have faith in yourself & TH-cam will eventually cover the education part if you click through enough videos. Also Ed The Pond Professor at Aquascape has also made several videos on the subject that will help . (Just don't buy any of his over priced Aquascape products.) Best of luck & God Bless!
Your right mate we shouldn't be scaring new koi keepers off with saying it has to be expensive. I've gone from pressure filters to a nexus n a bead with an ashp wud luv a drum but nah£. As u say it can be done cheaply with homemade filters
Hi mate thanks for your help I have ochiba koi fry there about 4 inch they was a nice brown and gray color but the brown has now gone now they have came in doors they are at 25c is it because of the heat or is it because they came in doors and will the brown come back wen they go out doors in the spring thanks
I had a bit of a filter crash. Outdoor 2600 gallon heated pond at 65F. Now my ammonia is .75ppm, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, kh 6, ph 7.9. I’m having to treat for gill fluke. How can I get the ammonia down while treating for fluke. I’ve cut the feeding down to one small feeding per day.
Hi mate what can I use to help koi slime coat iv had costia and the slime has gone on some of them and how long does it take to grow back and I'm heated as well thanks
If you're on a tight budget, good quality, reliable pumps should be your main concern. Filtration can be as simple as vats of gravel, they will require alot more maintenance, but will work, you can then upgrade when finances allow. You just need to pump water through a filter medium at the very basic level, but then lots of improvements on that can made right upto drum filters and sieves, but the pump is the heart of your filter system, the best filter system in the world is useless without reliable pumps.

I would very much like a video on koi pond design and filtration. The basics. Especially DIY filtration and placement of returns.

It's very important to keep new blood coming in but for some groups the thought of people coming to challenge their superiority scares them to death.
Good evening from So Cal
Sticky Ricky!
Where's that come from?
@@Ricky_Stoddart_Koi It comes from crossing Gelato with Grand Daddy Purple...It's a very popular strain of Cannabis. (no disrespect).

A good pump is very important but in this day and age doesn't have to cost a fortune.
