I said "Yeah!!" really loud when you suggested also using purple in your skys. When I was very young I discovered purple made a great color for skys when I colored in my coloring book. Every photo wasnt complete until I finished my background in (usually) a dark purple. To me it made my coloring book picture "more real looking" and bit spooky too sometimes😂

Make up brushes are very good blending brushes, they are cheaper and they do not shed, they also work AMAZING!!! And this painting is incredibly beautiful. Your work just makes my soul smile.

Your voice sounds very similar to Bill Nighy. As soon as you started futzing around with the sky at the end of the video, suddenly the yellow grassy area behind the trees, jumped right out of the picture. This is the first time I’ve come across any of your videos and you can be sure that I will continue looking out for your lessons. I was looking to get some distance perspective in my work and I got it. Thanks a lot. ❤️ Babs

Masterful painting and wonderful video. Production quality, both visually and aurally, is the best yet.
One more thought about repetition....it has been said that many artists keep painting the same painting over and over again throughout their lives in order to "get it right". (Whatever IT is). This may be somewhat of an exaggeration but I have seen it to be generally true with artists I have known personally.
They paint and paint within a narrow genre or subject matter, producing hundreds of variations on a theme, hopefully getting closer to some imaginary ideal in their head.
You often unapologetically state that you only want to paint raw landscapes with no sign of humanity. (Your viewers are happy about that, of course!) Be as unapologetic about the repetition in your voiceover. Repetition and practice of a few important skills is the essence of mastery of any art form or sport, as you clearly know.
You are bound to repeat yourself verbally as you demonstrate your art. Embrace it! We love and appreciate each subtle iteration of both landscape and instruction.

I find myself wondering what the view out your livingroom windows is like. I get so caught up in your voice and the scenery appearing before my eyes that it is the closest thong to the wonderful feeling of being involved in a GREAT book. That place your imagination takes you that is nothing like the movie. Im saddened by the thought that these next generations might not ever know how much more wonderful your own mind can make a book. And it is definately better than the movie. Please keep up the Art of illusion lessons. I really didnt think I had a chance to become a real painter yet my best works have come from my sessions with you. Thank you.

I could watch and listen to you all day. You are very calming. I also love the way you paint, nothing precise. It is about interpretation. Just let it flow out of you. I have no art in my background, however I started painting in 1908. I have a wonderful friend that introduced me to expressing myself on canvas. I have used many different things to paint on shingles from 1700. Rocks, you name it. I am getting ready to do a huge painting on a sliding closet door. We took them out, so I feel they would be something to paint and lean against a wall. Enough about me. You are magnificent.

When I first came across your paintings, I thought they were just too random... Now, after watching a few, I wish I could emulate them! I use acrylics and tend to paint more 'realist' landscapes. Hello and thank you for the video
After a long break I´ll go back to the canvas and make some paintings, thanks to you Mr Davies.
Finally a person who really want to teach others in the noble art called painting, and not talking about "them selves", that´s awful to listen to....sorry to say that. But when that´s said, you tell it in a very calm way with a bit of a smile too, explaining all the small details, telling us that you also got problems by buying the wrong brushes now and then....smiles. So, there is just to wish you a pleasant weekend and keep up with your good work. And good luck to all the people out there, who paint and have fun and joy with that all time.
The best regards from Denmark, Thomas

Listening to you talk about adding brown to your sky, made me think of growing up in the Midwest near Lake Michigan. Lots of volatile looking skies there. I’ve seen skies like the ones you paint in various places in my country. Don’t know if you know this, but 🇺🇸 has the most volatile weather of anywhere in the world. We’re Number 1! lol. Learned that from my brother who’s a commercial airline capt on the West Coast. At least we’re number one in something besides Covid 🙄😏. This is my 2nd viewing of this video. I watch/listen to them multiple times as I find I learn something new, or something important youve imparted that I had forgotten. Love this one. Ty Professor.

Hello, Stuart. I am a new viewer and a new painter. Never done it before. I have produced some paintings using what I've learned from you, and I'm really happy with the results. I never NEVER let my clouds end in the middle of the painting. I'm learning the difference between light and dark. But my most fun lesson is that I new have the courage of my convictions with paint. I can use color from a tube and feel confident that I can work with anything I'd like. My first EVER painting I feel is a lovely success. Not brilliant, not perfect, but that's the way I like it. Thanks for your help. Eileen

I just subscribed which I NEVER do. Thank you for teaching this style of painting. It made me get my paints out again, since I can't draw at all but love to paint I realized I can do this with the help of an amazing teacher. Thank you

Extraordinary. You are the man. You taught me about clouds to take them off the canvas. I paint with acrylics. I don’t where to start. You just “ah” me. I just watch you paint. Can you achieve this look with acrylics I guess that would be my first question. Thank you Mr. Davies, for sharing with us your gifted talent. I love the college story. If I tried that today no doubt I would be arrested or some idiot would steal my paints.lol.

Personally, I don't think this would work with acrylics.

I landed on your site tonight. Only picked up a paintbrush a year ago. I'm 59 years old and was never allowed to take art in school. I started doing easy acrylic paintings or acrylic pours. Canada is shut down due to Covid virus and I'm low on supplies. I've watched 3 of your videos tonight and will watch a few more before I fall asleep. Tomorrow will go buy some oil paints and try to paint along with you. (If the stores are open!) These are the type of painting and scenery I would love to be able to do. Thank you for sharing your expertise and story tellings, makes for a very intersting video. I also like hearing your calm voice and mo music. Helps me focus better. New sub!!

I liked the way the sky looked before you added more grey towards the end of the video, but the finished result is just as beautiful! Thank you so much for teaching! Lilly R.

The stormy skies are just more interesting to me as well. There's just so many colors & movement. Static skies are ok if you're painting the Grand Canyon or something that will have all those up front warm colors against a static sky - but overall stormy skies are, imo, more interesting & plain old beautiful. Plus it's a lot of fun watching them come to life. Thank you for sharing your work with us! I'm doing wet on wet but I find that I'm using more shop towels than I am brushes anymore!

very impressive. painting for me typically brings about a certain amount of anxiety, especially prior to starting. But watching you effortlessly begin and then carry that effortlessness through to conclusion really does help me realize that I don’t need to be afraid.
