    It's easier on most shapers to tell if it's running backwards because of the Whitworth linkage that makes the ram move faster on the back stroke than the forward cutting stroke. The advantage of that is that such a machine will be cutting more than 50% of the time it's running while this doesn't. Time being money and all that
    This is a very interesting machine. I'd love to know more about it

    The adjustment up on the flywheel also controls your depth of cut depending on how many teeth on the gear it moves.

    That is a very nice machine. I love these old machines. Quality is so much better than new ones. I don’t even know if new ones still got made.
    Good video.

    Slide should move faster on the return stroke. Crankshaft centreline is raised above the slide so there are more degrees of crank rotation on forward stroke. Think your direction of rotation is ok.

    There are lots of videos on TH-cam about using a shaper . Setting up etc etc.

    What a fantastic machine. Can we have a demo run of it in operation please?

    If you use a cut both sides tool you can just flip the 'ratchet job' to change direction and cut both ways, saves a lot of hand winding back to the start and very useful for finishing cuts. Much less fiddly to do with yours than on my Alba.

    The hand nut you showed us to allow the adjustment is for altering the amount of travel to the side movement I think you will find 😊

      @StoneEng  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@robertrawlings I think it's both, amount of travel (1, 2 or 3 teeth on the gear the ratchet picks up), and also the phrase relative to the cutting arm.

      @@StoneEng Indeed, you're absolutely right.

    Think the adjust on the flywheel shaft is the amount of travel

    • @StoneEng
      @StoneEng  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@alanchester-hl3ek I think it serves both purposes. Length of travel and phase relative to the cutting tool.
