This is one of those songs I have listened to for decades and can sing the lyrics but have never taken any time to think about them. It is just a vibe
Their harmonies are fantastic, well-anchored by Cass's beautiful alto. 'California Dreaming' showcases their vocal abilities very well. My favorite Ms & Ps song is 'Creeque Alley,' which tell the history of the group in a kind of sardonically-funny style.
One of the defining groups of the '60's counterculture. Thanks for your reaction.
LOVE The Mamas & Papas. Love you, too, Tasha. This was a vibe. Their harmonies were iconic. Thank you for this little reminder of one of our yesterdays. So wicked cool to see your generation discovering and enjoying our music. Peace, love and much happiness to you and yours. Big shoutout from this old, longhaired, hippy dude in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. See you on the next. Go with God. Later..
Great reaction, Tasha...I'm 67 and I remember when this song came out...Mamas and Papas were my favorite band hands down back in the '60's...They had so many good songs that this generation need to listen to...Thanks for reacting to this wonderful group and taking me back to a better time...Keep being awesome !!!...
They were an awesome group with stellar harmonies.
"No Salt On Her Tail", "Go Where You Wanna Go", and "I Saw Her Again" (with the second most famous mid-song "mistake" in a '60s song) all really show off the Mamas and Papas harmonies, and John Phillips songwriting.
This came out when I was in high school in 1968! Wonderful song!! 😅
Denny was the great Canadian voice for the solo in songs.. He retired back in Nova Scotia until he passed away.
I’ll just quietly sing along. I was a late teen when they were popular and I’ve always been a fan!
Another killer "Monday" track from the 60's is by Spanky and Our Gang called Monday Will Never Be The Same. Classic from the era and also amazing vocals and harmonies.
Sunday Will Never be the Same, not Monday
You are so very right! Still a great song and group that Tasha should listen to. Thanks for the correction! @@toddmartin1759
Nice reaction to this beautiful song, Tasha! If you are ever in the mood for another Monday song to react to (say next week, for example), you could consider "Rainy Days and Mondays" by Carpenters and "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats. The first is a lovely song, though a bit melancholy, the second is the first song I know of that covered the subject of a shooter in school. Peace out!
Monday. I sang this to myself as I walked to 1st period gym class in 1967.
They got their first Grammy for best vocal performance for this song. Check them out singing Words Of Love on the Ed Sullivan Show. Cass really puts on a show. It's great.
Thank you, I just love this group
One of favorites.
You need to listen to Cass Elliott alone.
Absolutely! She was SUCH a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice!
Hey Tasha, another Monday song u should check out is Manic Monday by the Bangles, if u haven't already. Great 80's song 😊
*Manic Monday was written for them by Prince!!
@@cliffsanchez1451 I am aware Prince wrote this song, however, it was performed by the Bangles.
What a beautiful song…
Yeah. I appreciate this one. I only took me one time to hear this!!! And been loving since a kid.
💖💖 Love your reaction 💖💖💖!!! I've tossed back a few cold Beer to that song when I was just a Cub!!!
This song is about his wife leaving him
They were a real-life soap opera. While Michelle (the blonde) was married to John (tall guy, white shirt.), she had an affair with Denny (lead singer), knowing that Cass Elliott was in love with him. Broke Cass' heart. Needless to say, the group did not stay together long after that. Cass made some good solo music, but she died way too early. Michelle went into acting and had a regular role of Anne on Knots Landing for years. She is the last of the Mamas & Pappas. Cass, John, and Denny are gone. But their beautiful music lives on.
I think their song I Saw Her Again came out of the affair you mention.
@@MrSmartAlec Yes, it did.
Got a feelin’ is a good song by them
John Phillips is Chyna Phillip's of Wilson Phillips dad.
This group was really popular when I was in junior high school. At that time to get to see groups of musicians on TV was pretty rare they didn't have videos like they do now. And the sad part is, most of the groups when they appeared on shows did not actually sing the song live. It was all lip sinking. So what generates these olders in the future that are from TV shows and notice the way they're saying. It was kind of rare for a band to sound as good live as they did on ATV show or in a studio version of their music
How can you not like the Mamas and the Papas
Miss Cass was married to a man named Jim Hendricks.
Another Monday song is "It Sure Is Monday" by Mark Chestnutt.
Great memory.
Moma Cass and John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" is worth a video. Or all of John's songs....
I don’t always not like Monday’s cause working retail sometimes I have Monday off lol
Spanky and the gang very similar. Check out Janis Joplin Ball & Chain (Live at the Monterey International Pop Festival) Mama Cass reaction.
The Mamas And The Papas - "I Saw Her Again".
Nice selection, Tasha!
❤❤❤❤❤
Once again Hal Blaine on beautiful drums.
Do you know if Hal played on Dedicated To The One I Love? It sounds to me like it could be him and I love how the drumming comes on strong later in that song.
@@bradsense7431 He played on all the Mama's and Papa's songs
@@tonyfreeman1339 okay cool. Thanks for the reply.
John Phillips ( the tall one) was a very very sick man. He had an incestuous relationship with his daughter, Mackenzie Phillips ( 1970's TV show "One Day At A Time) for years It wasn't until after he does that she came out with the whole story. She's no longer acting but if a counselor for addiction in Los Angeles. She went through a terrible addiction and has been dealing with this horrible event by talking about it and she has written books and her ordeal as well.
Good reaction to a good song. It bears noting that this group, as great as they were, had been embroiled in a sickening controversy regarding lead singer John Phillips. His daughter, actress Mackenzie Phillips, alleged in her tell-all book many years ago, that she had a years-long incestuous relationship with her father.
I used to like them a lot but I read something about John Phillips back in the 1970s I read that he used to live with his own Daughter the girl from the show one day at a time. he got her drunk and had SEX with her and she loved it and they had been living together for about 10 years she said he used to have sex with her 4 and 5 times a day. for 10 years this was going on while she was in the show. and he also introduced her to Drugs. thats nasty.
These old videos from tv shows are hilarious. Bands performing on stage yet there’s not a microphone in sight🤔
Clearly lip syncing🤨
