I just love my echo dot. Compared to, say a couple of years ago, Alexa has become smarter. It listens patiently while you speak, with the ring at the base of the speaker changing hues, and then it gets to the work. It is fairly quick to fetch the information you seek. I wish the sound quality could’ve been better…

The other mainstream "reviewers" just manage to get more views because of being dramatic, and I guess that's what most of our population tends to prefer, sadly. I have echo dot 3rd gen. It is great but a music reactive ring light or just customisable ring light option would be great. I understand amazon doesn't want to compromise on security as ring lights mean certain things (eg. red ring on mute) but It would be great to have this feature.
You can do much more in a smart home than just turn light and sockets on and off on command. You can have your outdoor lights turn on automatically on sunset. You can have your water pump run automatically when the water level dips below a certain level. You can have indoor lights turn on when you open the door. I wish Ranjit would've explored the routines section of the Alexa app. So much can be setup there.
Yeah we can do that.... but wanted to keep this video super simple, for first time users. In-fact I have the Geyser switch on automatically everyday in the morning at a set time and switch off after 45 mins.

I've been filling up my home with IoT devices ever since I got my 1st gen Echo in 2015, along with a Wink Zigbee hub, Phillips Hue and a Logitech Harmony hub. I've found that turning lights on and off using voice is more of a novelty and it gets old pretty soon. But to have devices that operate on their own based on certain events is what makes a smart home truly smart. I was earlier using IFTTT for this, but now with Alexa routines a lot of this can be done natively.

Most of the Smart Plugs work on the regular 2.4 Ghz WiFi band... You can also set routines with most of the smart plug apps, for example to switch on at a particular time then switch off after some time etc or automate it based on a particular event etc.
Only nightmare with all these smart devices is they are heavily dependent on internet. If internet goes down at ISP( router UPS also won't help) these become unusable.
I believe smart plug for water purifier is of no use because there is no need to switching off the purifier. Anyways it was a great informative video. Thanks
It took you years to get a couple echos, light bulbs, plugs, and an AC? I was expecting to be impressed but aside from the AC, that's basic. It barely scratches the surface of what can be controlled. There's fridges, ovens, microwaves, coffee makers, security systems, gaming consoles, wireless speakers, thermostats, the actual tv (not just power it on with a switch), door locks, even a doorbell. I havent checked but I wouldn't be surprised if robot vacuums can be controlled by Alexa.

Am not getting any video which explains this. All the videos says i need to connect the appliance to a smart plug but this will increase plugs in the home. RanjitJee... One question I always have in my mind.. Dont you think that ALEXA or Siri is a privacy concern about what we talk inside home. I mean whatever we are talking its trying to interpret & answer accordingly. So basically its hearing every word that we speak (& may be using all the words for better productivity). Please let us know your take on this. For Example: Lets assume everyday around 6 PM I say "i am hungry". After few days, phone started to suggest advertisements of Zomato/Swiggy etc around evening time.
The only massive drawback is I am someone who prefers English US and currently it works well with English IN and it doesn't recognise everything too well when you change to English US

I don think it causes any problems to the router, you just need good internet speed, which isn't very expensive these days. Zigbee etc is very expensive
Does Nord 2 support handsfree Alexa even when phone is locked? Amazon doesn't specify Nord 2 Amazon certified alexa whereas other Oneplus phones have Amazon certified alexa. Please reply.

I do additional things. I control my curtains, I control my Tatasky my AC (that is not smart) I create scenes, and also have Alexa wake me up with different music each day

Yeah the voice recognition has improved a lot now.... and I rarely have to give the voice command more than once now.
