Dean just decided to randomly run 30 miles one night?!.. That's exactly what I admire about people like him! It's 'crazy' people that change the world!
+Simon Vance Even better, he left a bar while taking shots of tequila then ran 30 miles the night of his 30th birthday in his goddam underwear. He is a true inspiration
tequila will do that to you... this man is actually a really inspiring guy. His inspiration is what started me on endurance running and ultimately ultra marathon running.
I'm a 61 yo life long athlete who is still going strong with MTB, running, swimming and gymnastics rings. I retired at 57 after a wonderful career in the corporate world in several companies that gave me all the freedom to have a great life (lived in many countries) and enjoy PLAYING sports, among other passions with my family; especially my wife. I met many people like Dean Karnazes who got obsessed with one thing in particular to "MAKE A LIVING" and lost track of living to the point that they showed all the telltale sings of OCD. Today as a retiree the longest and most incredible run I'm still on is my 36 year marriage and a 61 year adventure with my mind and body.
Well, you know, a lot of Americans don't run away when a lady approaches them - Which explains why a lot of Americans are obese, and having skyrocketing high divorce rate.
He's not an "average man". He was tested and featured on 'Stan Lee's Super Humans' and he has some sort of genetic mutation that allows him to not build up lactic acids like normal people. Normal people cannot run 30 miles without any training the way he did way back when.
Nathan Fenner Read his book 'Ultramarathon Man' and you'll see that he can run the way he can even without training. After decades of not exercising at all, he ran 30 miles one night with no ill effects. He liked it so much, he started running regularly after that night. A normal, healthy, and fit man of that age could not run 30 miles without any training the way he could.
With that kind of reasoning you might as well jump of the building :) The broken down car will not self-repair ever, human body always does. Genetics are changing with every new cell, so it's just a matter of time, because gens REFLECT your state of being/mind/soul/whatever and do not dictate you anything other than maybe initial options. If intelligence is depressive it means your learned a bunch of crap, learn something worthwhile instead. There is obviously a mechanism that negates the build of lactate, just as lungs negate the production of CO2. Everything is yin yang. Just because few can maintain the correct yin yang it doesn't mean they are mutants.
Why the negative comments? I can only assume jealousy. Anyway, he seems like a lovely guy and an amazing guy to be able to just keep going and going in one go. I liked his attitude very much and you can't knock a man who wants to be the father he can be.
There is a greater ultra -marathon man- Yiannis Kouros an Australian, who ran in the Sydney - Melbourne race, about 873 kms in approx 5 days. He also ran 1000km in 5 day 20 hr, so averaged 7.133 km/h. Now when Dean ran 560 kms , it was at just below 7kms/hr. Only difference apart from being slightly faster, Yiannis ran another 440 kms.
Can nobody else hear what's going on in his voice, I am a great fan of Dean and have been for a long time. Go back to earlier interviews and just listen.
Surely a nice person who is true to himself. Keep doing what you are doing Dean I truly believe that you found what works for you. Well done you have succeeded.
@@marksman9249 no, but it took forever to get home. My clothes got soaked wet after hours of rain, but when I got home they had completely dryed again.
he's 100% right about Italians (I am one) and European runners in general..they are very obsessed about performances. Race events here in the States are so much better, there's always a party atmosphere.
Yeah Daryl, I'm with you-watch the TH-cam videos of the Mont Blanc ultramarathon through the Alps region-those Europeans are intense competitors but the fans are passionate too- I got tingles down my spine watching this-really jacks you up to go out and knock off 10 miles!
Actually born in the USA to Greek parents, spends a lot of time living in Milan, but yep you're right, i was wrong, guess i just thought Mike Lett was dissing the guy a bit. Cheers, Jase
I'm a fan of Dean... but...What the heck is up with his talking?... I've seen a few of his other interviews and he's never talked with an accent? Is he trying to do an italian accent?
I trained in a similar manner but from age 16 while working and schooling....weights included.by age 40...total constant horrific spine pain....17 operatioms,,,,most failed.
Seen many videos with him and here it feels as if he had a drink or super tired... Not to bash him or anything I am fellow runner besides other things and have nothing but respect for the guy. I am just saying that his speech is 100% NOT like his normal speech. I make guesses but only because it made me puzzled for some time now. It does not affect my perception of his persona nor trying to judge him. Go Dean!!! It would be amazing to run next to you one day! :)
Karnazes is phenomenal. He is NOT an average man. He has a very rare genetic advantage. His body processes lactic acid unlike the average human. His muscles produce lactic acid, like all human. Unlike the rest of humanity, his body can remove the lactic acid so that his muscles do not fatigue from too much lactic acid buildup. It's an honest to goodness 'super power'. Lucky guy... I wonder how his heart will age... interesting....
hes that last guy during the pacer test that everyone is waiting for to stop so we can play basketball
Rivaldo Monroe in my school the teacher just stops the guy who still is running the pacer test so we can play dodgeball lmao
Pacer took up the whole PE time at my school. We was bout it

genuine lovely man, have spoken to him several times and he always had time to help me when i was running 50 marathons
one of the most authentic interview ever... What an inspiration.
Very inspiring! I am in the verge of quiting my job to purse my passion and running is definitely one of them! Than you Dean!!!
"oh yea i wake up at 3 in the morning, run a marathon, then take my kids to school" like o_0
A woman approached you and your first thought was to run 30 miles away? My God....
Well, you know, a lot of Americans don't run away when a lady approaches them - Which explains why a lot of Americans are obese, and having skyrocketing high divorce rate.
Marriage is the leading cause of divorce..
well no shit dude you can't get a divorce if you're not married lmao
also you're welcome for the two year bump any time bud
Spacenutz Yoooooo 😅💀💀😬 You The Funniest
...I nearly had a heart attack walking from my couch to the fridge
I stood up in my shower for 6 minutes and I almost had a heart attack, then I had a McMuffin

True but with the correct training it is possible to be like him, it just takes more work.
Nathan Fenner Read his book 'Ultramarathon Man' and you'll see that he can run the way he can even without training. agree. dont start your running from 30 miles :-) if you are not mutant.

Hold my beer
Just the motivation I need. Do it for yourself. Focused on the outcome and not on the training. We can do it.

Dean has been a constant source of inspiration for me. I have all of his books.
The real forrest gump.
Thanks Dean. You just convinced me to go for a run. I was lacking motivation this am.
damn look at what running made to his face, almost no face fat and his jaws are great.
Love Dean's attitude. The foundation for it all.
Stop when you're tired? Can I get the spongebob "1000 years later" please?
This guy is incredible. His determination is rock solid.
I love watching him talk
Honestly same.
Ha ha ha ha ha!! Dean is off his head!! Incredible, I thought I'd never see it!
"I only sleep 4 hours a night".... "BUT NO MACDONALDS!"
Hilarious at 1:04-1:07.
I was drinking but I was married...
That sure is a legitimate reason for drinking :)
LMAO. Made my day.
🤣
I'm amazed at how his knees are holding up. I used to run 10k's but it didn't take long to kill my knees.
Your form is probably not great
@@Jonifico nope it isn't, got a roll on my foot landing. To be fair though, I see a lot of runners whoes feet roll unpon landing.

I thank you, you inspire me. I too now think the same as you. And I have adjusted my dreams and goals as such.
Scary thinking the potential of this man if he had started at as a child like many prodigy's.
So true, if he was in perfect condition like 28 years old or sum
This guys seems so nice. Cool vid
thats so crazy to me that his daily routine is that he wakes up everyday and runs a marathon
I dig the aphex twin symbol on his shirt, watta champ
He is such a kind and great man
I start running more because of him...

I also just started running! Good for you! And Good luck
who knew that this man can run forever ,the strength he has is incredible indeed mind blowing .....😝😝😝😝
Mr Karnazes dropping knowledge like a savage
I like how you said that. I can't agree enough when he stresses how the world has become so easy button.
This man outran my #1 fav role model
Surely a nice person who is true to himself. Keep doing what you are doing Dean I truly believe that you found what works for you. Well done you have succeeded.
'They don't want us to run'
think about it..
it hurts but the pain is teaching you great things
Same. 4 hours I feel like hell even walking to the bathroom, or reading a book, having a conversation, watching tv...
1:27 I did something similar 3 days ago. Decided to get up in the middle of the night and run 40 km, in the rain, at 3:30 AM.
But u passed out after 2 km am i right?

@@joelbackman2702 I see. So did you continue after that day, i mean running like this guy daily
it's not about it being one session run, but an uninterrupted run. That's why HE holds the record.
awesome - thanks dean!
I love the way he says “little.”
Run Forrest! Run! He is a kind person

because he has passion and dedication.
What's up with Dean's accent at 1:20? Is he having a stroke?

He's the guy on the pacer test that we have to wait so we can play basketball
He is right on the money. We have no real struggles and most people avoid them.

Indeed I could relate to you sir! Running does hurt, especially when you run barefoot!
I read his book and really enjoyed it.
