I wish all youtubers spoke this fast and to the point! THANK YOU for that. Great job. And I happen to agree with the "bitching" about technology, as another commenter put it. Technology is still very frustrating despite all the convenience it purports to create. Nice to hear someone else believes it's a bit too much sometimes

I renamed my network, called it B&W printer. The Honeywell did not work with the symbol "&" all my other devices had no issue, but the thermostat did not like it one bit. Took a while to figure out that was the problem ,good video. Honeywell support was trying to steer me to ISP for gateway setting, but then I realized what was the issue. Even factory reset of thermostat did not work. The entire issue was a symbol in my network name. Now I called in "old grey printer" no issues.

I'm about to throw this in the garbage and get something else that works. I've had this for 5 years with no problems. I added a Honeywell RTH6580WF to my home recently. I discovered no c wire. Without knowing what all it involved, I found the blue wire tucked into the wire bundle as it had been cut off since not in use. I stripped it and applied it to my thermostat. Still no power. I then went down to my furnace to see the blue wire was not hooked up either it was just wrapped around the same wire bundle going to the thermostat. I stripped it and hooked it to the C terminal on the furnace. Now the C terminal had a white and brown already attached going to the AC. But you can hook more wires to the C. You can hook the 3 right into the terminal or you can bundle them together with a 4 wire called a pigtail then you only have one single wire hooked to the C terminal. User preference. So don't just assume because you found the blue wire in your wall or wire bundle behind your thermostat that its connected to the C terminal in your furnace. You will be best to take the panel off your furnace , find if a C wire is connected and determine the color while making sure it's the wire bundle going to the thermostat.

I worked on it for a couple hours. Then I found this video and had it working in less than five minutes. Why the hell isn't this procedure listed in the owners manual?

I see this is a 4 year old video. I got a new router so of course my thermostat no longer recognizes. I went through all the steps but when I type in the IP address it doesn't take me anywhere, something about my firewall? So does that mean I need to change something in my security settings to even get that IP address to work?
