    To everyone saying Melanie is like Constance 2.0 now, she isn’t. It actually says on the park’s website that her father had a hand in the suitors’ disappearances, so it wasn’t her. Also, the phantom is still holding a noose in the part that used to have the hanging body, so Jake is still a canon character.

    Thank you for you video it's a nice summary of the new attraction!
    However, there's a few things to note:
    Madam Leota is kinda important because she is the one calling all the ghosts, ghouls, witches, and all to the "wedding". She also asks them to take the bride to the ballroom and stands the very phrase: "A ravinshing bride, a vanishing groom.". It's was already there in the og and they didn't change it for some reason.
    The difference in tone between the underground graveyard + town and the manor is more likely a reference to the main imagineers (Marc Davis and Claude Coats) who had two different visions of the mansion. And Grim Grinning Ghosts is a classic song. (even has an official french translation!)
    At the end of the ride, where in Haunted Mansion the hitchhiking ghosts are, it's not Melanie's grave. It's the four fiancés's graves. One is holding a ring. The new storyline also implies that Melanie has gone crazy about the deaths of her different fiancés and is desperate to marry someone just to be freed from the Manor itself.
    In the og one, she's been waiting for her only fiancé to come to their wedding.
    Her grave is actually outside the attraction, in a graveyard you can visit next to the mansion. I don't think it's still there but you could hear a heartbeat if you listened closely.
    Then, again, thanks for acknowledging this attraction! (and sorry if there's mistakes, English is not my first language).

    I think it’s great Disneyland Paris has a different storyline than Walt Disney World. I love both of them in different ways. I don’t know if Walt would have liked the decrepit exterior in Paris but it works and love the music through the first part of the ride. It is haunting

      Our French Phantom Manor is definitely better scarier than Haunted Mansion when it comes to storytelling. Even more spookier
      Fun fact, the Whole Frontierland itself is linked to the backstory of Phantom Manor. Not to mention the owner of Big Thunder Mountain Company is the same person who owns the Mansion : Henry Ravenswood, a Gold Miner

  • @idk-zt8rx
    @idk-zt8rx ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I personally don't like the story changes in the 2019 refurb. The og phantom manor was peak. It was more dramatic and had a scarier phantom. They really watered down the story after the refurb by giving Melanie many suitors and turning her into Constance in the end. Not to mention the overusage of the phantom and the removal of the all is vanity reference in the attic. I suggest you analyze the pre-2019 version. I personally find that version to be one of the best rides Disney designed. All the og rides in disneyland paris were much better before they were rethemed or given changes (take space mountain for example).

    • @themeparktheories1040
      @themeparktheories1040  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yea I can definitely agree with the statements here, however I don’t think the 2019 refurb ruined the ride for me at all. But I do think that it was watered down as well which does kind of make the environment and story suffer a bit now.

    I found that the rides in Paris Disneyland go faster and thus last less time than rides at the Anaheim Disneyland. On the other hand, back when I was there - 20 years ago now - the lines were even longer than they are at the Anaheim Disneyland. They do a great overall Jules Verne theme in Tomorrowland. But generally, I did not find Disneyland Paris to be a great park.

    I remember going to Disneyworld many years ago and saw the Haunted Mansion. At that time it did not have an all over theme, it was just a haunted house with hundreds of ghosts in residence. I really preferred this older version.
    I think the versions in present time are far too themed. You lose the idea of the classic Haunted House, as everything gets dominated by the story. The creators act as if you, the rider, have no imagination of your own, and cannot understand what you are seeing if you if don't have a narrative to follow. In the original haunted mansion, the ballroom scene and the crystal ball medium scene worked perfectly----it was classic haunted house stories. But in today's over themed mansion, everything has to be made to serve the narrative. I really think they overdid the theming on this attraction. It was better when it was a generalized "haunted house" that could cater to just about any ghost, haunted house or spooky story that people would have heard. I also really dislike the "Nightmare Before Christmas" that they use on the mansion every Halloween. Maybe for a few years while the movie was popular, but it should not be a constant thing done every year forever. That just shows me a lack of imagination on the part of the creators AND the cheap, save money attitude of the Disney management today. There is no difficulty in making a spooky Halloween themed ride out of the Haunted Mansion. Decorate with pumpkins and scarecrows, etc. They could change the Halloween theme every year or every few years. But they find it easier to just go with the "Nightmare before Christmas" theme, which has been going on for twenty years now. It's getting old.

    I went to Disneyland Paris last year, and while I did definitely enjoy it, as a long time Disney Parks fan, I was somewhat underwhelmed. Using Phantom Manor as an example, I thought it was very well designed with cool animatronics, but something about it felt disjointed and wrong. For as much as their is a story here on paper, I was more confused by the the majority of the ending portion of the attraction, though this may just be due to my bias of expecting the usual graveyard scene for DLR and WDW
