- This week a complete change of scene, some film from Brother-in-Law Mike’s holiday, with Pam, in Switzerland. As you will see, Mike is very clued up on the things he films, which makes for an entertaining watch. Relax, enjoy
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. Very enjoyable, Ron. More interesting than some of the professionally-produced travel videos, which are usually too gushy and over-the-top. Looks like a perfect place for a holiday -- I wish it wasn't so far away!
Glad you enjoyed it Jim. Keep flying. Ron
Lovely video, bringing back faded memories of my stay in Interlaken on a school trip in 1960. Apart from the names of lakes and mountains, and the magnificent views of the Bernese Oberland, I don't remember much about Interlaken, which like the railways, must have seen significant changes in the intervening 60 plus years. Thank's for the memories.
Glad you enjoyed it Malcolm, we like stirring up memories. Ron
Hello Ron - greetings from Poland
Thanks to Pam and Mike for a lovely film. Certainly something different from our usual adventures. I was last in Interlaken in the summer of 1961 on scout camp. I don't emember very much of the town other than the vernicular railway and the boats on the lakes. I hope you are keeping well old friend. See you next Friday.
Hi Michael, I believe Mike's introduction to Switzerland was with the scouts, small world. Keep smiling. Ron
Wonderful video. Everything is pristine and beautiful. Almost a different world protected by those majestic mountains. Thanks to Mike for showing us this lovely place. More please! Take care. Ron.
Keep dodging the rain Ron, if you can. Ron
@@ParkinsonsWalks hopeless, at the moment. They forecast a few dry days, then a few days later it changes to rain.☔️
@@abandonedrailwaya2470 Hi Ron, I used to have a waterproof camera so the weather didn't bother me, I no longer have one and it is a damn good excuse to stay in the dry. Keep smiling. Ron
I enjoyed Brother-In-Law Mike's video. Very interesting views. I hadn't seen much of Switzerland before. The aqua green of the rivers and lakes are a bit unusual. The only place I had actually seen that before was at our Niagara Falls on the border of Canada. If Mike and your sister enjoyed the ride up and down the incline, I would readily recommend that if they come over to the US and get a chance to visit New Hampshire, they might enjoy the inclined Cog Railway at our Mount Washington. it is only a 25% incline, but it does extend 3 miles up the tallest mountain on our East Coast. Quite an enjoyable ride. The weather can be significantly different between the base and the top.
Hi Charles, interesting post, I have been to Niagara Falls, I remember the vibration coming up through the ground as all that water thundered over. stunning. Stay warm. Ron
Morning Ron and well done Mike for a great film. Switzerland is quite stunning. Ive only been once but that was for a hot air balloon festival when I did a lot of crewing for an old friend. The views were spectacular to say the least. Stay safe. Pete
Hi Pete, that must have been a wonderful experience, I love the casual way you mention it
Keep Smiling. Ron
Good afternoon Ron and thank you for today's video, and also to Mike for supplying it. Switzerland has an incredible and varied railway infrastructure due to the nature of it's terrain, and Mike showcased this particular funicular really well. I thoroughly enjoyed it; oh, and the scenery wasn't bad either. However, the railway was the star of the show for me of course.
I love to see engineering achievements in all their forms, whether it be the amazing lengths that the Victorians went to in getting railways across the U.K with their stunning infrastructure, or more modern systems such as that featured in Mikes video (how do they organise those cables to go from double to single track working ??? 🤔). I hope he has more of these films - perhaps a trip on the Bernina Express, Glacier Express or the Jungfrau Railway?
Thanks again Ron and have a great week. Regards Trev.
Hi Trev good to hear from you as always. It is very hard to judge who will like what when I upload a film, I know we have some die-hard steam fans but I don't mind testing the waters with something new. Mike has quite a bit of Swiss railway footage. I think from the response to this film I will probably use some more from Pam and Mikes visits and I'll include some railway where I can
Thanks for your Support. Ron
Hi Ron. That was very nice...I need one of those bikey-things! We miss you, but hope you are enjoying a well-deserved break from entertaining the troops. Jame
Hi James, you would have to teach Sumac to pedal. Are you ready for that. Take care of yourself. Ron
Amazing film thankyou. The colour of that water is just stunning. So blue being the meltwater. I don't think you would of got my Mother on that viewing platfrom! What an amazing experience. I'm not sure but I did I spot Clint Eastwood half way up the Eiger?
Hi Simon, yes you did, he was just behind Sean Connery. Ron
@@ParkinsonsWalks I didn't think Sean Connery was in The Eiger Sanction????
@@thehairygolfer You didn't look carefully enough, he was near the back. (where do you dig these old films up from (1975)? Ron
@@ParkinsonsWalks I'm a Clint Eastwood fan. Got a drawer full of DVDs! Good film the Eiger sanction. He does a lot of his own climbing. I think I remember being so fit but it's a long gone memory.........
Hi Ron & friends. Sorry about my slow response but a big thank you to one and all for the kind comments on my Swiss video. My wife and I have been visiting Switzerland regularly for the past 30 years so we know the country pretty well including its wonderful railways. I am also a member of the Swiss Railways Society which keeps me up with developments on all things to do with trains in all parts of the country. Our favourite areas are the Bernese Overland, the southern part of Lake Lucerne and the canton of Graubunden in the south east. As we are both getting on in years I don't think we will be visiting on many more occasions but vat least I have hours of video to enjoy and remind us of our many holidays there. Interestingly my first visit was to the village of Kandersteg in the Bernese Overland in the 1950s when I spent a week at the international scout chalet which is still there! We went all the way by train, an overnight journey! Hopefully Ron may be able to find a few more items which might be of interest. All the best, Mike
Thanks for that Mike, I'll do my best. Ron
Mornin' Ron, Big thanks to Mike again for sharing his videos!! I've never been to Switzerland so this was all new to me, I would love to go.
What struck me most was the river - a huge volume of water travelling at a great rate of knots and what a colour. The funicular looked great fun as did the viewpoint at the top and what a back drop the mountains create. A very good day for filming by the looks of things.
We often see people flying paragliders from our house over the nearby hills. The other day I decided to go walking in that area and as i reached the top of the hill at about 3110' there was a small group of paragliders one of whom set sail as I was there. They told me that even in winter there are thermals to provide the uplift. I have to say I really don't think its the best place as there are power cables nearby which come from one of the small hydroelectric power stations driven from the waters of our river. You do get great views all round including my gold mine!!
Have a great weekend, snow due for us!!
Hi David, truly a stunning place, but I don't think paragliders are for me. Talk about a leap of faith! My fellow investors in the gold mine, having sold our shares last week are starting to wonder now. Did you step in and buy them at rock bottom?
Enjoy your snow. Ron
@sonsWalks You nearly caught me out there. I havent decided yet, I wanted to invest elsewhere ...... the futures on gruel are looking good what do you think? ............
@@davidberlanny3308 It should be good David, it's all we eat here. Ron
@@ParkinsonsWalks Please sir, .... can I have some more!!
