I saw Sly on an episode of "Unsung", he said he was very happy with living in his camper ( trailer). It seems towards the end of his career, he became paranoid, and had other issues going on, which stopped him from performing on stage. He could barely talk when they interviewed him. I kept wanting to clear my throat for him.
OMG! I haven't heard the term booty green in 30 years! That tickles me! The older folks used to also call it " tally." I don't know where these terms come from. 😂😂
I’ve been waiting on this story. My sister turned me on to you a few months. I grew up in Vallejo, Ca where they are from and I grew up Cogic. We all would be in church together they are much older than me, they are my parents age. An extremely gifted family, even the kids are just as gifted now. I never knew Sly but I knew his parents Deacon and Mother Stewart. I’ve played at church with Freddie (Pastor Stewart) he’s a great Pastor and brilliant musician. Pastor Freddie used to have a Sunday night service. I used to go by and play the organ sometimes. I loved playing with a legend.
Great job once again Ashley! Love Sly Stone; rocking with "Hot Fun in the Summertime"! You made me go into the vault and pull out my Graham Central Station jams!!! Love this era of music.

Sly & the Family Stone rehearsed downstairs at the home that Sly purchased for his parents, located at the corners of DeSoto & Urbano Drives in Ingleside Terrace, San Francisco. As a 9 year old boy, I often sat outside of their house and listened to the most influential music of my life, even until this day. I heard the hits, but mostly heard music that the public never heard🔥 it was funk before funk was labeled funk. Growing up only 2 blocks from that location, I mostly heard them rehearse and create on the weekend, but sometimes during the week. Even though my older had their 1st album, "A whole new thing", I hadn't yet realized how famous, historic, and important this band really was, and is...well, I was 8, 9, and 10 yrs old, listening to a style that had not yet really been introduced to the world, yet. I did realize that they were different than the Stevie's & Marvin's, and everyone else on the radio. They were a different fresh and cool, and excellent vocalist & musicians. I remember them speaking to me when they took breaks, or when leaving rehearsals. Sly was always kind and smiling, as was Cynthia, driving her bronze Jaquar. Sly's father was also a kind man to me, the kid on the stingray bike, posted up outside their home. At the time, I didn't realize our families were considered rich, but, based on the neighborhood then and now, we were. Sly & the Family Stone was my 1st and still, most influential band that I've ever heard. It took decades for me to even talk about this, because they were just that great neighborhood band, to me. I've been performing and writing music on 3 different continents throughout my life, and I attribute that to the outrageously funky band known as Sly & the Family Stone. Thank you Larry, Gregg, Rose, Jerry. And to Cynthia Robinson🎺: you were an absolutely beautiful soul and inspiration. Thank you. R.I.P.🙏🏾 To Sly🎹: You certainly did it your way. Thank you for the songs, the messages, and the lessons you never knew you were teaching. To Mr. & Mrs. Stewart, thank you for being wonderful neighbors & and great parents to the most creative group of children i've ever known. They taught me how to REALLY do it. 🎙SLY🎹🎸 -🎙ROSE🎹 -🎙FREDDIE🎸
My mom told me about when Sly didn't show up to perform at her college and everyone had bought tickets and were waiting and waiting for them to come on 😁
I was born in 1969 and when things become difficult for me around the age of 5 yrs old Sly and The Family Stone's music made my life happier and a little easier and still does. Thank you for making my life better with your music.

Another great video. Sly is a mess. I'm from L.A. and I remember when the story came out that Sly was homeless and living in a van near Crenshaw Blvd. The local news reporter, I think it was Ch. 2 or Ch.5, went out to the van to see if it was true. Sure enough it was. The van was actually a pretty nice van. I was expecting it to be a old nasty beat up disco van from the 70"s, but it wasn't. It was the kind of van that had an extended top and you could walk around in it with ease. It was kinda like a Sprinter Van, but I don't think Sprinter Vans existed at that time. The reporter talked to Sly and Sly was very polite and friendly. He invited the reporter inside for a tour of the van. Sly had some type of high tech looking keyboard. The reporter asked him why he was there? And he said he lives there and he is just there creating new music, that he had never stopped creating music. He said he needs to be alone when he creates music so the van is a perfect place to do it. He said he is not homeless, that he chooses to live in the van and he said he had no financial worries, that he had lots of money and that he was living in the van because he just wanted to. He said he likes being alone. The reporter asked if there's anything he wants to tell his fans? He said tell people to just leave me alone. He said people come to the van and ask for autographs, tell them to just leave me alone so I can make music. So he was trying to make like he wasn't homeless. The couple that would give him food and let him take showers in there house would probably beg to differ. And with all the drugs I"m surprised he's lived this long.
I saw the UnSung of Sly and he was a whole sloppy mess and he looked like he had been beaten up by all of those "good times"; but i thoroughly enjoyed your reenactment of Sly's mess and of course, I knew I would see my boy Bobby Womack in the story (RIP Bobby) Keep up the good work Ashley!!

I'm so proud of Ashley. So many members ❤️. Jus keep rising to the top
I noticed that he’s voice is very raspy
@@tyliekinc.Crack! Freebase! Sad.
Y'all listen, when she said Sly had them shouting to their death in church I died fifty eleven times! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This need to be a movie!!😂😂😂 remember when Sly did that one show on Tv and disappeared in the middle of the show?😂😂😂
A guilty pleasure confession: I love the way Ashley drags out SCENTBIIIIRD 😂
You made me Lol at the Sly and Gun story . Especially with that comparison of Martin🤣🤣🤣🤣
OMG! I haven't heard the term booty green in 30 years! That tickles me! The older folks used to also call it " tally." I don't know where these terms come from. 😂😂
He made the dog apologize! Drugs are a powerful thing!
Yay! Another video!! Was quietly waiting like a behaved and mannered child. 🤗
Hilarious!
Lawd this is getting ready to be THE FOOL 🤣
Sly is around. Larry knows where he at
Great job once again Ashley! Love Sly Stone; rocking with "Hot Fun in the Summertime"! You made me go into the vault and pull out my Graham Central Station jams!!! Love this era of music.
omg!!! loved it soooo much! that last part about him singing a little and walking off is so true. Remember the grammy's? Sang a littlebit and walked off the stage? that was his first appearance for decades. Grammy's or AMA. chile!!!
Thank you. R.I.P.🙏🏾
To Sly🎹: You certainly did it your way. Thank you for the songs, the messages, and the lessons you never knew you were teaching. To Mr. & Mrs. Stewart, thank you for being wonderful neighbors & and great parents to the most creative group of children i've ever known. They taught me how to REALLY do it. 🎙SLY🎹🎸
-🎙ROSE🎹 -🎙FREDDIE🎸
Awesome story man!🎶🎶👊🏾🙏🏾

Yes, I watched that interview. It was a really good one.
He has a right to live like he wants to. Its just that u can alone in a house or apartment.. just saying. As long as he is happy
Yes! I saw this interview. He seemed coherent and at peace with his life at that time.
As a Pisces, you hit it dead on the head ! Chile Sly was a mess 😂
That slap had me dying, you so silly!!! 😂
Ashley be making me laugh at stuff I’m not even suppose to be laughing at 😂😂like when Sly said aye bih bring me my suitcase …. I was really trying not to laugh 🫣
I screamed 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are the best at what you do!!!😊☺️
"If you want me to stay" that's one of my fav songs.
