Son & disciple of Pt Jyotiram ji of Mewati Gharana
Pt Puranchand also learned from Ustad Ghulam Qadir khan doyen of Mewati Gharana Vocal tradition, & ustad Ata Husain Khan of the Agra Gharana Tradition ,he mostly lived in Ahmedabad & also yearly organised "Rajab ali khan sangeet utsav & Pt Jyotiram sangeet Samroah both in - Ahmedabad -(Pt Jyotiram also learned from Ust Rajab ali Khan) he was conferred the title of "Gawaiya" from his Elder & Contemporary ,Hence he was then famously known by the title.
