  • Welcome to Twin Elm Farms! On this channel we show what its like to farm in southern Manitoba, Canada. The farm consists of Kendal, wife Lindsay their kids Hayley, Parker, Jaxon and Brock. Kendal's older brother Darryl, wife Heather, their kids Mackenzie, Dylan, Quin and Ryenne. With our right hand man Pieter. We have other part time help throughout the season, Arch (combine operator) Terry (field work) and Rob (cattle help). We crop corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and canola. We have a cow/calf operation of mostly Simmental and Shorthorn with some other breeds in the mix. Hope you enjoy our content, please subscribe, give it a thumbs up and love hearing comments.

    On those slow newborns, my vet had an injection to give them and stimulate . I don't remember what it was called, I kept it in my OB case for emergencies. That seemed to save the day or night !!!

      Oh man I wish I knew what that injection was?

      Usually it's a steroid. We use dexamethasone. I always have to check the chart for dosing or ask your vet.

    Wonder was the small twins a bit premature

    • @TwinElmFarms

      They were both premature, the hair is short and 40lbs is crazy small. My guess... lungs weren't fully developed

    Thanks for the great video. Your channel helps me to relive my many years of planning, waiting, watching, and at times assisting, my herd of beef cattle in west-central Wisconsin. I've been looking forward to your calving season videos, and it looks like things are in full swing now. I wish you the best of luck with your calving season this year!

    Is it unusual to have so many backwards calves or is it normal?👍❤️🇨🇦

    • @TwinElmFarms

      3 in a day yes, typically we get a couple a year

    • @Marilou-g5t

      With twins, it is more common for one twin to be backwards.

  • @Marilou-g5t

    Great job getting calf sternal-legs propping it spine up nice and tall. Our vet advised to do that.

    Love the tote calf warmer!

  • @brandypage62

    Why didn't you tube the red twin calf & put it in the warmer?? You need some jump start paste. It would have made it if you had followed the process.

    • @TwinElmFarms

      Ouch, I tried tubing it but the tube I have made it difficult for the calf to breath, because it was tiny. The lungs weren't developed.

    Morning mate can you please explain to me why you farmers in America carve cow in coldest time for the year. Here in Western Australia I carve down in Summer time.

    • @TwinElmFarms

      Spring calving we are typically wet and we are also very busy with seeding. Summer time, cows are out on pasture and we don't have an interest in pasture calving. Summer for the most part, we are busy with the grain farm.
