    • @anonymoususer9215
      @anonymoususer9215 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rickflairshair Is that some sort of joke? You did, however, perfectly define a cocktail. A cocktail, is a drink with bitters, sugar, and spirit. THE Old Fashioned was developed at the Pendennis Club in 1882. Louisville, Kentucky.
      Look man. To us real "Old World" bartenders, this is literally bar 101. You youngsters come in, thinking you know it all, and you guys have not even taken the time to learn your craft man.
      Go to the library, pick up a book. "The Gentleman's Guide to Bartending", written in 1903 is a great start.
      If this drink was made for me, I would pay for it, stiff the bartender, and not even touch the drink. Here he made a wonderful "Whiskey Cocktail". I will certainly give him that.
      This is not a cocktail you add your own twist to. You leave it the fuck alone. Bartending is like baking a cake. Follow the recipe. Its not rocket science.
      There is a reason why tonight I will sell about 100 $20 traditional Old Fashioneds at my bar. This is a cocktail that NO bartender should EVER get wrong. PERIOD.

      Josh Taylor: first off, you don’t even know my age so stop assuming I’m a youngster and I am well aware of where it orginated. @xXlSkULFaC3lXx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk if that was the intention. This drink came out before ice was widely available so sugar would’ve dissolved just fine in a warmer drink. Times have changed. Thicker syrups make a superior drink in terms of mouth feel and consistency. But to each their own. The most important thing is that you enjoy what you drink

    Thank you so much for not using the watered down flavourless piss that is Makers Mark like every other old fashioned maker on TH-cam seems to do. My only criticism would be pouring the Woodford over the muddler (I can look past the tiny ice cubes and using soda water).

    Is there any particular type of Orange that is best? Or is a regular Navel Orange fine?

      Might be hard to find depending on where you are, but Seville Oranges are our go to if we can get them!

    There's your answer. "In my opinion, the Old-Fashioned is meant to be an evolutionary cocktail." In other words, "I can do whatever I want with this cocktail and still call it an Old-Fashioned." Absolutely not. One would think bartenders would know that exactly zero "paste" is needed in an Old-Fashioned. The original cocktail is based on rye or bourbon whiskey (since it's an obviously American cocktail), gum syrup - so not sugar cubes which didn't even exist when the original whiskey cocktail did - which was the inpetus for men coming to their local bartenders to say "make me a cocktail in the old-fashioned way." Which is how it became the "Old-Fashioned." Which included gum syrup, bitters, zero muddling, zero soda, spirit (bourbon), mixed in-glass with a block of ice to provide appropriate minimal dilution (not soda) and sufficienct chill, served with an orange peel to balance the bitters and bourbon, and eventually a luxardo cherry (absolutely not a maraschino cherry) to add dimension to the cocktail.

    I want to cry when I see bartenders saying these OLD FASHIONED recipes are THE OLD FASHIONED RECIPE. This is just a version, not the classic OLD FASHIONED.

    No Cherry ? I get cherries muddled and than do the garnish flag with an orange and cherrie on top. I also use simple syrup instead of sugar cube
