Unconventional Fly Tying: Crafting the No-Thread Surf Candy

This is a simple little spin off of the surf candy is super easy to make and doesn't even require thread to do so. Technically, it's not even a fly, but it is in my book. This is just an example of patterns that could be made as usual, but the combination with the use of natural and synthetic fibers is endless with this one!

I really loved this Fly and I am going to take a crack at it when I manage to get some resin. Is there any data on how effective certain flies are?
I'm really curious if the art work is more effective or if we humans just like aesthetic things that mimic nature when a scrap of foil tied to a hook might be equally effective

How do you determine the length for the tail for streamers with this hook style? Because my brain thinks that short hooks are meant for short flies, even though I have seen it multiple times and tied them like that myself.
