Thanks very much for this, I used to visit this market every weekend around 91-99 when I lived there as a child/teenager. Wilkos I I see used to be woolworths, the J sainsbury's is still there, chequers pub still there, lidl on the corner used to be BHS. Fond memories of Walthamstow, especially Cavern Records and Record Village.
It is such a shame that Waltham Forest Council have been the worst enemy of this great market , they have ripped the soul out of it since the early 1980's.
Oh my days I used to live in walthamstow left when I was about 20 years old lived in hatherley road I used to get my bosses Barrow out and work there Saturdays how its changed dont recognise it now gone r the old cobblestones and traffic used to run up and down I also worked as an apprentice mechanic down markhouse road a garage called bernard Wallis Chrysler and rootesdealer went 2 greenleaf infants mission grove junior school William morris and William muguffi also known as scruffy muguffi also joined the local boys brigade 26 Waltham forest I had the best years in walthamstow as a boy lm 65 now how it has changed live in stevenage now not been back since I dont think I would recognise it now good old walthamstow
Thanks for your comment. This was Super Saturday when more shops were allowed to open - like hairdressers, barbers and English pubs - life is London is slowly getting back to normal after the virus. Lets hope it continues
Shocked at low number of opened shops and stalls at the bottom end of the market. I thought this was a Sunday at the start until I re-read the title. For those of you not old enough to remember the market of the 1960s/70s/80s, you could not move for people the entire length of the market from Hoe Street to St James' Street when this market had in excess of 500 stalls on a Saturday - jammed packed. In my view the market needs to be shrunk and end at Palmerston Road / High Street junction - regenerate the rest and convert much of the lower part of the High Street into new resi housing/recreation space. Hanging onto this idea that the market is the longest in Europe is out of date.....and from this video is clearly not going to be viable ion the medium./long term...

The street market looks good. However, it is not very complicated. Is it because of the corona virus?
