In the video it states that the exchange rate was R2 to the British Pound. 16 years later by 1976 the Rand has strengthened to approx R1.47 or so to the British pound. Although there were some sanctions by that time the Rand did start to fall but actually kept its value well considering increased sanctions. The fact that it kept on falling after the ANC took over just confirms that the ANC is doing probably more damage to the SA economy than the international sanctions did.

It was a beautiful country for the SMALL WHITE MINORITY. The vast majority of South Africa's population has always been nonwhite, and they were segregated into townships and stripped of their South African citizenship during this time period. I'm not saying the post-Apartheid ANC government is good. I'm just making a point that the Apartheid society wasn't sustainable. It's a miracle it didn't end in civil war. I hope South Africans of all races elect a better government someday.

The individual identified as "Whitey" in the comments section appears to be nostalgically recalling a time in South Africa when only the white population received favorable treatment from a government that was responsible for the deaths of countless African people and the theft of their land and resources. The commenter "whitey" seems to view this period as positive, despite the horrific violence inflicted upon African communities, and expresses a disturbing sense of satisfaction at the thought of profiting from their suffering.
