Even cults have their diehard faithful who take every word from Dear Leader's butt as authoritative, some skate along trying to ignore what makes them uncomfortable because they want to have something to believe and a group where they feel accepted, and some can see the cyanide being dripped into the Kool-Aid and are looking for an escape. Of course, most religions aren't going that far (literally, I mean), but the followers often vary in their opinion. But fundamentalists follow what they regard as Divine Text, and castigate everyone else for not adhering to their perception of "Right".
