    With the Lee Load-All, if you orient one of the creases between the points towards the front of the machine before pre-crimping, the new crimp will better match the original one. It also prolongs the life of the hull.

      You’re absolutely right. The Lee does not have a spinning starter crimp like a Mec so you have to position the case to get a good crimp it has nothing to do with the quality of the shell

    I used Win AA Hull and Waa12R, with Red Dot @ 17grs and #4 (21 Pellets) and it worked out great.
    Shot Shells can be made in many configurations.

    I've reloaded everything up to an including 50BMG but I still haven't messed with shotshell reloading... I've been wanting to get I to it for buckshot and heavy shot for ducks, geese, and turkey.

    If you cast wheel weight lead you can make shells for less that a quarter a pop

    • @ryanripley8449
      @ryanripley8449 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup yup. I get 19 cents a load on 12 gauge shot loads and around .52 cents a load for slugs. *** And yeah i did alllllll the math to figure it out too lol. Had to put on my troll repellent.
      Slugs usually cost more to build the good ones. Never skimp on slug materials. Buckshot is more forgiving in a cylinder bore or IC with claybuster level stuff. Best part about shotgunning though is exactly what you said. Casting your own buck shot and slugs will save a literal fortune and scrap companies love to sell off lead so they avoid the fees. Wheel weights for buckshot, soft lead like plumbers lead for slugs. Roof flashing is great for slugs too. About a 6 on the brinel scale.

    Finding plastic shot shells littered about the woods is disgusting. Please pick them up. They are unsightly, and cause timber companies to limit access to their land.

      @@ryanripley8449 negative answer for everything? If you can’t find shotshells right now you must not be looking very hard. I’ve found factory loaded buckshot/slugs several times, and target loads still on the shelf so there’s the hulls your looking for. Comes loaded too. Your turn

  • @robertfrapples2472
    @robertfrapples2472 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You do know that the length of the wad relates to the shot weight, not the powder, correct? I have wads from 3/4oz to 1 1/4oz that I use for different loads. Also, you didn't mention that primer choice can make a huge difference in pressure. If someone is on the cusp of disaster with a Remington 209 primer, swapping to a hotter Winchester 209 would bring it.

  • @David603B
    @David603B 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you ever tried this with putting a small piece of cardboard on top ? I wonder if it would
    Help the crimp. I only have clays powder but I’m assuming I’m good to go as long as I follow a recipe with the same weight buckshot as I’d use birdshot

    If the shell crack at the crimp, can't you cut the end off and make the shell smaller?

    • @Thee_Sinner
      @Thee_Sinner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This loader only works on 2.75” and 3” shells. So if he’s got a broken 2.75” shell, cutting it will just make something that that can’t be crimped

    • @jungleno.
      @jungleno. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can cut the crimped portion off and use a roll crimper

    Can the wads being wrong be dangerous? And if you had a different primer

    • @tjknust
      @tjknust  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't go mixing primer and powder. The wad you might get away with as long as it doesn't affect the column height too much.

    • @jungleno.
      @jungleno. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are wads made primarily for tapered hulls and other wads made for straight wall hulls. Mix-n-match is not a great idea. It affects pressure. Some powder migration will occur when using Winchester wads in straight wall hulls. Stick with the proper wad and hull combo.
      Generally Winchester wads are paired with tapered hulls and federal wads are paired with straight wall hulls.
      FYI Cheddite primers can be substituted for Winchester primers

    • @tjknust

      A full choke is probably best but you got to try and see what works. With a modified, the core of the group was about as tight but there were more fliers.
