I was 14 years old when this song came out in 1984. It randomly popped into my head 40 years later, so I looked it up here. Laura's voice - and appearance - were as gorgeous as I remembered. The video was sillier than I recalled though. Hey, it was the 80s!
This must be one of the most melodic songs of the 1980's, with a beautiful semi-haunting melody, almost theatrical, despite the fact that it doesnt seem to get much play these days. Great song from a classy lady. RIP Laura :(

TH-cam’s algorithm lead me to this song about 2 months ago. My favorite songs from Laura branigan are Gloria, Self Control, Power of Love, and now The Lucky One. At this moment, I’d have to say that this is my favorite song by her. She was a beautiful woman with an angelic voice

I listened listened to this gorgeous, wonderful singer as a girl in the car driving to see family in Mississauga, shopping, etc., my father absolutely adore her, Crystal Gayle and now just loves Irish anything. I just sent him this hoping to give his ole bones some great memories. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
I’m not even that old and I enjoy today’s music, but there’s something with the songs from the 80’s that will never be seen again. And there’s TONS of those songs. I guess one reason is that a lot of artists wrote their own lyrics back then, so the songs actually meant something to them.
The Album - Self Control - is a real kick -ass musically and vocally...just timeless

In the mid 90's I went to see a big 80's revival concert that was put on by 95.5 WPLJ in New York City. Laura Branigan was there and was one of the best acts of the night. She sounded and looked great and put on an excellent performance. I don't think she sang this particular song but did sing several of her big hits. Little did I know, that would be the last time I'd ever see her on stage. I also had no idea that by the 2020's, WPLJ would also be gone.
