Beyond brilliant, you can't see anything similar now days.. Absolutely amazing quality.. And it's not just Diablo 2, it's Fallout 2 as well, and many older games.. I don't know what happened to game developers, perhaps they are cutting corners on voice acting which is a shame, it contributes so much to the immersion.
Worth noting that Frank Gorshin (Marius) was literally dying at this point. Guy was a career chain smoker (66 years old at this point) and had lung cancer. Worked BRILLIANTLY for the role, but it's kinda sad.
To this day, I still get goosebumps from this intro! D2 will always be one of the greatest games ever created. It's lasting influence can be seen in many games and genres since.
Hiering Frank G. As a voice actor for Marius in this was the best desision blizzard ever made. "Why did I follow him? I dont know... why do things happen as they do in dreams?" Gives me thd chills EVERYTIME. WHAT an amazing voice actor! R.i.p Frank.
I love how the music takes a dramatic turn after the skeletons show up. Because the dude glowing green, the little imps setting fire to everything, and the plastic surgery failures crawling around were perfectly normal until the skeletons decide to bone everything.
When I played this for the first time I was seven and couldn't comprehend two different characters wearing similar outfits so I spent the whole game really confused as to why the Lone Wanderer had come to the asylum to ask Marius about the Lone Wanderer
+Shindra Tensei Actually it's seven bad guys, they saved one for an expansion, and another two for the next game. It's not genius, it's future planning a child can do.

You know, when i watched that intro last time, which was pretty much with the release of Diablo II (still one of my all time favourite games) in never noticed, how the soul of Adrian (the green shade i assume) left his body, when Diablo took control and then fought its way back to stop the demons. That really showed the struggle he faced and how he lost step by step. For me probably still the most tragic Diablo story, right after Leia.

I came here, because I just realized something: D2's Story begins like the most stereotypical D&D campaign! It starts in a tavern: Check. Mysterious hooded stranger comes in: Check. Less than 5 minutes later the tavern burns to the ground: Check
Diablo 2 was and is still a really good game. It's a shame about what happened to the town of Tristam. The story makes it so that all your looting, hacking and slashing in the first game was, apparently, all in vain. No Disney endings here. And for a 12-year old me, that was a shock.

The menacing smile and line delivery of Baal in D2 and evil wit no longer exist in D3, D2 had a good mystery story plot, D3 appears to be goal oriented

the song "Tristram" is nothing short of the best piece of music composed and performed for any game... ever. Nothing else is even in the same league
