  • Henry Decker (also known as Harry Dacre) was an Englishman who emigrated to the United States in 1892. He brought with him his bicycle and complained to his song writing buddy Billy Jerome that he had to pay a very expensive duty on his bicycle to U.S. Customs. Jerome replied, “You’re lucky it wasn’t a tandem bike; they’d have made you pay twice as much.” Jerome then dared Henry to write a song about a bicycle built for two. Daisy Bell was the first song actually sung by a computer and Arthur Clark included part of it in his movie about HAL 9000’s psychosis. The original chorus lyrics quoted in my video are genuine and may be found in Bill Messenger’s book The Power of Music.
