Hi, nice one. Air 2S here and I do about the same. Would like add a little tip, get a neck lanyard for the controller. While your using a pro controller and the launch menu is easier to reach while holding the controller, not so with a phone mounted on top. Here is where the neck lanyard comes into play. It gives you a 'third hand' no worries of the controller slipping out of your hand. Once you have one, you'll never leave home without it.
Great Job buddy. Thanks for watching. I gotta get this damn drone eventually. In the future i will have it, but not right now. Have a great day and I hope you and your love ones are having an amazing Mothers day weekend. Thanks for all you do and please keep flying
Awesome video as always Aldryn...I never thought about wind direction when launching my MM1. Now that I've upgraded to the M3 a few days ago, I'll keep that in mind. I've also tried hand catching the way I do the MM1, just put my hand underneath and hold down on the Right Stick (I use controller layout 3). It wouldn't land at all....maybe I didn't have my hand at the 2 lower Obstacle Avoidance sensor but more toward the Vision Position sensors...so the way I was hand catching was flipping the RC into Sport to disable the Obstacle Avoidance (only so in an area away from anything).
Unfortunately I found that out the hard way - it was my fault though. I was starting up the motors to take off from the road, but heard a car coming so decided to grab it (not thinking the propellors would speed up). As soon as I picked it up, it thought it was taking off and sliced up my finger pretty badly. Had 3 deep slices to my finger, and when it was healing literally had a chunk missing from the tip of my finger. Thankfully didn't need stitches, but definitely did way more damage than I was expecting. I'm not really a fan of hand catching, but that put me off it even more :P
@@cwaddell171 ouch! Did that as well in my early drone days, FPV drone was about to hit a wall and I thought I could move it by grabbing it from the top without thinking and 3 deep cuts later I learned a lesson. Lesson learned, but now all I do is hand land almost every time.
Great video, you explained everything perfectly, makes much more sense to me especially for the landing. Sometimes hand launch and landing is the best in certain areas. Thanks!
Could you please do a video on geofencing, which manufacturers use it/are better than others, and any privacy topics. Do all DJI drones report your flyt path 😃 to DJI, what info gets recorded and saved/sent out, things like that...there are lots of topics on this subject that no one really talks about. Thanks!
fingers crossed DJI release a firmware allowing us to turn of the downfacing sensors , working on boats , the downwards sensors are a must to be turned off
@Winter Summer Media boats bob up and down, which plays merry hell with downward sensors. It's both very difficult and very unsafe to land on boats whilst downward vision sensors turned on. Wish DJI would address this.
For my Mavic 3 Classic if I hand land with the camera facing me in sports mode I have no issues but if I land with the lens facing away from me it detects me and keeps trying to go up higher? In sports mode isnt all obstacle avoidance off? Even if I switch S off to N and back to S it still acts this way?
Since you are going to speed it up, the slowest frame rate is ideal but keep in mind the speedup should be a simple multiple for best results; 2 3 or 4 times speedup for instance. One video I made I shot at 30 fps, but in post production I doubled the speed but I also doubled the frame rate to 60 fps. So I get a very smooth 60 fps frame rate AND it takes only half as long to get there.
On the other hand; if you are going for a fractional speedup say 2.5 times then you want more frames so 60 fps or even more during recording will allow post processing to slice it and dice it more precisely.
I've had to take off and land on very narrow boats here in the Philippines. Takeoff is no problem. But landing I've damaged 3 props. I tried my first hand landing today, on dry land. What i did, was turned off obstacle avoidance, flew to a good height for me to grab it. Then grabbed it, and rotated it 180 degrees, so it was upside down. This took a certain amount of force, but it didn't try to fly away from me. It shut the motors off. On my next battery, it asked me to check the props for damage. But i knew they weren't. So, is there anything wrong with doing this way? I fly with a tablet and tablet holder, so operating the app with one hand is difficult.
I just don't get the whole hand launching and catching thing. I tried it twice and was quickly over it. I prefer using my landing pad whenever I fly and because of that I can nail a landing dead center just about every time
@Nick guarantee you couldn't land your drone on a landing pad or marked area if your life depended on it. hand catching requires zero landing skills and i LMAO whenever I see a post online where someone sliced their hand or finger(S) 🤣😂😂🤣
Personally, I think switching to sport mode to turn off obstacle avoidance is a very dumb idea. If you accidentally hit a stick it will react more. I go into settings and turn off obstacle avoidance.
You don’t talk about sensors during take off.. My M3 will not always take off from my hand if they are on. The motors turn on but I need to throttle up to get it to go up. It definitely behaves different than M2 during hand launch.
I tried landing my Air 2s on a boat, on a river, crashed the drone on the boat, luckily it survived without any damage Although the boat was stopped , the river was moving quite fast so ... I couldn't land on a "fixed" location Any tips on how to land in that case?
I got anxiety and Almost made me cry when I saw that Dust and deadgrass come off the ground around your drone ..... Not good for your gimbal and motors
So annoying that we can't turn these stupid sensors off. They make the drone more dangerous to hand catch and impossible to catch when launching from boats. Hand catching is so much better than the drone's landing features. It is portable and meant for travel, people on boats, sand, rocks etc. need to be able to turn these stupid sensors off like we could with the Mavic 2 Pro to make hand catching easier, safer and more logically simple.
Watched another one from a different guy said exactly the opposite. The the wind should come towards you because if it's blowing away from like this guy says you the drone will try to recenter itself and can over shoot right back into your face.
If that's the case, wouldnt it be better to be perpendicular or 90 degrees to the wind. The wind push and correcting of the drone would move it to your left or right instead of towards and away from you.
@@howardtownsend2574 I agree, but 99% of most of the pro drone pilots on TH-cam who have more experience than this guy say have it pointing away from you. This is the only guy who thinks its a good idea to have the wind pointing at you. His justification seems to be just that, a justification.
"why the bother?" Read the comments. "just find a spot and do landing and taking off" Yeah, my hand. Often I will take off from ground and hand-catch; but sometimes I don't want the drone anywhere near ground (mud, slush, snow, sand).
If this manoeuvre is for experienced drone pilots you shouldn’t need to spend so long explaining how to use the auto takeoff function. Also…. If you want to do informational videos atleast unfold the props.

Easy but definitely for experienced dronepilots. Not everyone who flys a drone for the first time should do this.

I like how the drone basically acts like an angry bug when you try to catch it or boop it. Very informative video.
Your vids are always very informative. Great production quality.
I appreciate that!

Always feel intimidated to do this with Mavic 3 but it would be really cool to learn hand launching/landing a drone. Thanks for the tips!
Drone and flying skill goals! Taking notes. Soon I’ll be able to do this on DJI Mavic 3.
My palms are sweating just watching this video.
Very nice video every one of your videos that I watch answers all my questions. Thank you!
Beware: don’t under estimate the props, they will cut and do some serious damage. Keep your eyes away as far as possible.

When you have turned on obstacle avoidance (bypass) you can switch to sports mode to disable the sensors before hand catching it. ;-)

It's hard to find scenarios where you would actually need to do this. A boat is the exception of course. Either way, great video.
With smaller drones its useful because the ground clearance is so low its hard to find a spot to take off normally.
