They make money from tours. And Mariah's tours don't gross nearly as much as the most successful tours or even some of the average tours. Yes, she was on AI, but only for a couple of years. Her last 2 or 3 albums absolutely bombed and probably cost her millions each to make, with the various producers and writers hired. Mariah's 2-year residency in Vegas fro 2015 to 2017 grossed only a bit more than $23M. Her catalog of songs isn't like Michael Jackson's or The Beatles' in value, not even close.
