- PRIOR NOTICE: I am an amateur videographer and a simple tourist. My channel has no commercial purpose. I travel very often to Indonesia and in particular to the island of Bali.
As I am passionate about both video and Balinese culture (Hindu ceremonies, traditional dances and music), I often film the events and shows that I attend. It is my way of keeping memories of my stays and of making known the rich culture of this island.
Here is a new edition of Legong Lasem dance, at Balerung stage (Peliatan). Shooted the 8th of June 2018. Dancers: Aan DEVITA (condong) AYU MAS IRA (Lasem) and NITHA SUWITRI (Langkesari). Gamelan: Sekaa Gong Semara Pegulingan TIRTA SARI. Shooting is my hobby. This video can NOT be used with commercial purpose.
One of the most beautiful culture i have seen in my life as a human being. Words cannot pay homage to the beauty and level of intricacy of this cultural performance. The musicians and of course the dancers.
As a instrumental musician myself, i am stunned by the level of memory the dancer has to remember all the details of her dance. The level of this performance for this is tremendous and the experience watching is bliss and natural healing. I believe when performing they become real supernatural benefactor beings. I watched this 3 times in a row in full.
I read that the Legong is the most demanding of the Balinese dance and the girls start practicing at a very young age. For those with the stamina and sheer willpower to persevere through the strenuous training, by their late teens they "retire" to maybe pass on their skills to the next generation.

I love this. The performance is amazing. I saw a show like this when I visited Bali. I was still under the heavy influence of jet lag and somehow it made the performance all the more otherworldly. Do you know what the story is they are telling in this performance?
The story is about A King 1 Sided love.
The dancer in red is a servant but she would be a Garuda (mythical bird) by the end of the story. The dancers in yellow are King Lasem and Princess Langkesari.
The story started by the servant worshipping the king and the princess. The king was so in love with the princess but she loved someone else and rejected him. Broken hearted, he decided to kidnap her. Then Garuda came to save but eventually got killed.

In the village of Peliatan, near Ubud. Peliatan is the historical center of dance and music in Bali. The performance was filmed in Balerung Stage.
